Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. Our property was a small family farm for several generations. Our family purchased the property about 18 years ago. Since we are not farmers but love living here, the question became "What would be the best use for the land?" Living in a scenic area and already being in the vacation rental business on some other family property answered the question. We decided to share the beautiful view and seclusion of our area with others.
Our goal was to keep the cost of building down so that we could pass on the savings to you so that you would not have to be rich to enjoy our lovely area. This inspired the idea of a glamping cabin. The cabin is actually a repurposed office building that was built about the time this property was purchased by our family. We moved it to the present location and completely remodelled it in 2018 and added the bathroom. For 4 years, guests enjoyed an off-the-grid experience.
In 2023, when we began work on the glamping dome (stay tuned--coming soon!!), we decided to add electricity, running water, and a hot tub to the tiny house!
We hope you enjoy the cabin (and, soon, the dome) and the stunning view from them as much as we enjoy sharing this beautiful spot with you!
Note: The Charming Glamping Cabin is at a totally different property. That property also has a section that used to be farmed. Now a lot of it is forest. We purchased the property around 2000. This cabin was built approx. 10 years later. At that point, the cabin was a tiny economy cabin with a sofa bed. However, it seemed most folks preferred comfort over economy, so in 2020, we added a bump-out to the side of the cabin so there would be room for a queen bed. Guests have loved the improvement. (:

Our second stay at Brooklyn Heights and we are already scheming to come back! So quiet and peaceful with the river right there. We had the best time with our dogs for a quick weekend away. 10/10

This campground is secluded and very peaceful. The host is friendly and helpful and the owner is working to update the ground weekly. Nice place to just relax without the crowds other places have. We will be returning later this year.

My partner and I camped in the walk in site, D2 and had the entire walk in site area to ourselves. Our stay was quite peaceful, and Vincent was a wonderful host! The sites are huge and well maintained, and everything is clearly marked, so you can’t get lost! We’ll definitely be camping here again soon!

1 night at Brooklyn Heights Riverfront Camp
We had a lovely stay! Our cabin area was tidy and very peaceful with the lull of the river in the background. We enjoyed walking to the bridge down the road and exploring the local trails and riverfront. Ample camping amenities: coffee/tea/drinks/wifi available near the office area, plenty of wood/fire starter for those who needed some, and the port a potty was clean. Pro tip: bring your own potable water or a filter. There is plenty of fresh water available, but it's not potable. Vincent was an incredibly accommodating and personable host and you can tell how hard he and his crew work to keep the site in tip-top shape!

First let me say that our hosts Amber and Larry went above an beyond to help make pur trip amazing. They are really great. The property is rather expansive, and although it rained most of our trip, we were able to explore a little, see the waterfall site near the bever dam site, and use the beautiful pond on the property to do some swimming. The highlight for my kids was the water trampoline and seeing some of the farm animals. The beaver dam site is very private, possibly the most private due to how set back it is. There was ample space and multiple tables around the site. Im sure during good weather nighttime stargazing is amazing there. We will definitely make a return trip!

We loved glamping here! The site and the outhouse were clean! Amber checked on us twice. They had milk and cheese for sale, unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to rush out the last morni g and did not get to purchase any! The water was blue and refreshing! The kids had an absolute blast in the water, even with the storms rolling through occasionally
