So close to snowshoe and affordable makes this an easy decision. Also the wildlife, flowers, and river on the property make this a truly powerful place. There is some traffic and noise from the road but it quiets down through the night and all you can hear is the trickle of the stream. Property was owned by my great grandfather , He lost 150 acres in the early 1900's due to a bad debt from neighboring landowner. Was so happy to be able to repurchase the 150 acres back in 2016,now own the original land tract and added more. 250 acres in total. Portions were strip mined around 1978-1982 creating some flat fields and access to all property. I might add that strip mining if done properly can and does enhance the property. Ponds were built to catch runoff and several new animal species moved in waterfowl ,muskrats, and beavers. The beavers have constructed large dams on property further adding to the beauty. Have seen several bald eagles on and around the property.

What makes W.T. Farm special is the diversity of textures of the landscape. We have great mountain top views, as well as, a deep holler with cliffs, rock outcroppings, and waterfalls. The fields are full of fruit and nut trees and there are 5 ponds. Each of these supports its own flora and fauna. I acquired stewardship of this land 35 years ago and have developed perennial orchards wherever possible. I started with pears and have branched out into pawpaws, apples, persimmons, currants, black walnuts etc. and I boast that I planted the first commercial hickory oil orchard in the world. I am an eccentric horticulturalist and graft cultivar varieties onto existing trees like oaks, hickories, black walnuts, and even the maligned invasive honeysuckle, autumn olive and multiflora rose. Just last year I bought an adjoining farm that opened up 50 acres of more orchard planting. It is on top of the mountain and offers an expansive view of the valley and ridge system that defines our region. Funny thing is that because the land between the old farm and the new farm is divided by cliffs in the holler the only way to get from one to the other is a 12 minute drive or vigorous hiking. On this new land is a historic log cabin I am renovating that is said to be one of the original settler's cabin on the mountain. Because of the amount of tree fruit I grow and the varied landscape, there is a rich diversity of birds and animals to be seen. One of my favorite walks is along the cliffs to the top waterfall where there is a sweet wading pool. I have also built a number of ponds and four of them are quite swimmable. One has a dock and is where we spend much summer time refreshing and frolicking. The farm is also a small (very small) licensed farm winery and we make and sell traditional hard cider from our apples and pears. Our cider can be purchased along with our nut oils and flours and other farm produce you may not be familiar with. We live to eat. Coming here is a gastronomical adventure! I run the Acornucopia project from here and from it we are developing a foragers network that would very much suit the lifestyle of hipcampers. We pay foragers for wild nuts they gather. The property itself was first settled by a man named Mayford Jones, who set the first stones here around 1910. A Jenny Lynn style farmhouse was built and the property was known as one of the best developed farms in the area. Camping at Possum Holler Camp will provide you the perfect blend of solitude and recreation access. You will have private access to beautiful and idyllic Mill Creek, which has many beautiful emerald pools and is even seasonally stocked with rainbow trout! Within a mile you can access the New River Gorge Bridge and the Canyon Rim Visitor Center, and you are equally close to the park's world class climbing, rafting, hiking, ziplining, and mountain biking at the New River Gorge National Park and surrounding areas. Your group will have the entire camp to yourselves, so there's no need to worry about noisy neighbors. Our driveway has recently been revamped to include more flat parking and a less steep access route! While these improvements are great, we still caution our guests to avoid bringing large trailers and to use 4WD if available in an attempt to minimize rutting in the future. Seasoned hardwood firewood is available on site for $6/bundle. You are allowed to bring your own firewood, but only if you source your firewood locally because invasive pest species can travel in firewood. Possum Holler Camp is a Leave No Trace campsite, guests are asked to pack out anything they bring in and leave the area undisturbed. This includes damaging vegetation, creating new fire rings, or altering the natural area in any way. Also, please do not camp in the meadow area and only use the cleared out areas in the woods surrounding the parking and picnic/fire area for pitching tents. If you stay below the high water line, then feel free to move as far up or downstream Mill Creek as you like. The creek is indescribably beautiful in both directions! Weekend Trip to Bluestone Camp & Retreat

Mark is a great host and communicator. He gave us clear directions on what roads are best for pulling a trailer. Our rv site was awesome as we were the only people staying here at the time. The sky was clear for amazing star gazing and this location is about an hour from New River Gorge National Park. T-Mobile home internet was “weak”, about 25 Mbps - but enough to stream a tv show. Verizon cell was about 2 bars and T-Mobile cell was 1 bar. One thing to consider when staying here is the road in is very steep - about 14-16% grade, so if you have more trailer than truck, you may burn up your transmission/brakes. We would definitely stay here again!

Awesome little place even if it's snowing. Snow on the ground and the little rocket stove was great because we had no heat in the vehicle! Beautiful stream and the bathroom facilities are always a bonus even if outdoors. Everything was clean and inviting. The host was very responsive and had lots of ready to burn wood for sale.

I think this site is as-described in the listing! It’s a convenient location to several of the national park trailheads. The outhouse is cute and clean - you just take the trail that goes over the bridge and up the stone steps and you’ll find it (the tp is in the plastic tubs - I missed it at first!). I camped in my car just because the site is in a little rural neighborhood and directly across from a house - it seemed nice and safe, but as a single woman camper with my dog, I just felt more comfortable in a locked car. The only thing I’d change is maybe the fire pit walls being a little higher - it’s pretty low to the ground and I was worried about the sparks!

Amazing spot John was very welcoming the entire time we felt at home. There’s 250 acres of nothing but stunning views. There’s a ton of stuff to do right there skeet shooting a cute little putting green there are five ponds perfect for fishing. The little touches aren’t to be missed either the cute on site shower house with laundry *chefs kiss the bird houses the cute I assume from family named roads and alleys even a 55 miles according an hours sign…. If you’re looking for a place to get away and forget the world this is the place!!!! 10 out of 10 recommend
