The best tiny homes near Yakima

·

With its vineyards and rolling hills, Yakima is a Washington state wine country dream. Spend your days biking through orchards or fly-fishing the Yakima River. At night, return to your campsite to sip a local craft beer next to the fire. With 300 days of sunshine each year, it’s always a great time for camping.

Just 4 miles from downtown, you’ll find shaded campsites at Yakima Sportsman State Park. The RV park offers full hookups and sites for campers up to 60 feet long. Come for the fantastic wetland birdwatching or fish in the stocked pond. A short drive away, Cowiche Canyon offers 30 miles of mountain-biking trails.

As you head north toward Ellensburg, check out four campgrounds in the Yakima River Canyon. From your tent, you can take a kid-friendly raft trip or fish for trout. On land, hike along basalt cliffs or enjoy the view from the campgrounds’ picnic tables and fire pits.

If you’re dreaming of a wooded campsite, head west to the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. South Fork Tieton offers dispersed tent camping, and Windy Point puts you close to mountain hiking trails. Nearby, raft and fish the Tieton River as it runs into the Yakima Valley.

Have a few extra days? Leave central Washington and drive toward Seattle to reach Mount Rainier National Park. Or, book one of the Yakima RV parks and stay close to downtown breweries and galleries. Many offer free Wi-Fi and steamy showers for a truly relaxing trip.

This 1950s picker's cabin is located in Naches Heights among orchards and vineyards. Cowiche Canyon and hiking trails adjacent. Close to White Pass and the Tieton, Naches and Yakima rivers. The cabin is part of our local agricultural history. It was built by my grandfather to house migrant workers during apple picking season and that is how it was used until the late 1980s. It is not fancy, but it is cozy. Filled with books from local authors (Raymond Carver, Justice William O'Douglas, etc) and on local topics including tribal and labor history. Goats, alpacas, chickens on site. Free range cats. Wineries next door. Brewery closeby. Close to town but peaceful and quiet. Host is a bioregional herbalist and can offer advice for seasonal foraging options. You are likely to see us working in the shop and on the grounds. We will also do our best to give you your privacy. Composting toilet, refrigerator, cold potable water sink available outdoors.
