Located on Mount Hood about an hour from Portland, Zigzag Mountain Farm is home to an organic garden, old homestead, house, yurts, and barn. 50 acres of open meadows and forest, bordering thousands of acres of national forest.
The farm is home to an organic garden, campfire circle, picnic area, a city bus with a campers' kitchen, outdoor seating area with BBQ, kids play structure and hiking trails.
The cabin on the property was built by the original homesteaders. Britta and Jim purchased the property in 2009. It had been vacant for a number of years. Giant slash piles scattered the land from previous logging.
The house and cabin were not livable and needed major renovations. In 2019, we purchased and brought in a city bus and converted it to a campers kitchen.
A year-round creek flows through the property and 3 major rivers are nearby. The Zigzag Mountain Lookout Trail leaves from the property. The property was homesteaded in the early 1900's. E. Mountain Drive was the wagon train trail into Portland, known as the Barlow Trail.
Zigzag Mountain Farm offers the perfect escape from the city.

The hosts were thoughtful in setting up the space and left extra bedding and notes to help us navigate the space. The yurt is right off a main road and next to other houses which made us feel extra comfortable and safe. We appreciated the opportunity to stay in this beautiful little spot.

We had a wonderful relaxing few nights at Camp Colton. It was wonderfully quiet with only crickets, the creek, and birdsong. We loved exploring the trails with our pup. The puffball yurt was perfect for two of us plus our dog. It was warm during the chilly nights, had electricity, the fire pit had a great grill top, and the nearby bathrooms were nice. Even waking up to the sound of rain on the roof one morning was nice! Highly recommend and we'll be back.

I enjoyed the indoor sofa for two, coffee table , and a table for cooking standing up. Compost restroom was clean. A ladder was in the yurt to safely take down and put up the plastic screens. My Ford hatchback car did well in the 2-4 mile dry gravel road up to site. However, my car would not do well in the gravel road with rainy or snowy conditions. I would certainly return. Thanks for sharing your land.

We loved this yurt! Two adults and a toddler stayed here as a basecamp to explore gifford Pinchot Forest and hood river. The amenities are really nice, but it still feels like camping. It’s not super remote so easy to get to town, but we still heard owls all night long and the wind in the trees. The dog who can to visit us every day named Huckle was the sweetest goodest boy. Overall a lovely stay! The bed was really comfortable and the yurt had everything we needed for simple comfort. The fan was key for temperature control, but with some attention to that we were cool and comfy all night even with hot days. Thanks!

Our stay was great! The tipi was adorable and the bed was very comfortable. We loved the string lights that were hung inside, it made for such a cozy vibe.
The outdoor kitchen was perfect and had everything we needed - black stone style grill, tea kettle, plates, coffee cups, pots and pans, cooking utensils, etc. There was also a table and chairs which was perfect to eat our meals at after cooking.
The outdoor shower was lovely - really good water pressure!

Secluded and enormous meadow for an extremely peaceful stay… we were happy reading in the grass but this place is also an easy jump to spots like Latourell Falls and Rooster Rock. The tipi was awesome and I appreciated the literature Julie has explaining the symbolic meaning of its design. The outhouse was downright cute, and it was super handy to have a sink in the outdoor kitchen. It was hot, so I also enjoyed the cold-water outdoor shower. We were only 30 minutes from our house but it was truly an escape.

Beacon Rock State Park
Travel to Beacon Rock State Park to hike Beacon Rock Trail—a 1.8-mile loop up Beacon Rock. The rock is an 848-foot basalt column featuring switchbacks and views of the Columbia River Gorge.
