Weekend Trip to Mt. Hood Enchanted Forest

The three of us and our dog loved camping at tent site B! There was plenty of space for our two tents, and more if needed. The campfire setup overlooking the river was so peaceful. Having the three wheelbarrow/wagons available was extremely helpful and made hauling our gear down the winding dirt trail a much smoother task. We stayed just one night for a Mother’s Day celebration but are excited to book again this summer for a family camping weekend. We never heard the campers down at the cabin site, so the spacing of sites was ideal for privacy while at the same time not being too far of a walk to the potable water and toilet.

Weekend Trip to Waterfall Sanctuary

Our trip to Waterfall Sanctuary for a two-night camping getaway was absolutely relaxing and refreshing. We were immersed in nature at our campsite and enjoyed the diversity of the native plants around us, a hundred different bird songs coming from the trees and even spotted a few visitors at our campsite (a squirrel and a very inquisitive hummingbird!) Just a short walk away, we were spoiled with the luxury of a roomy sauna, coffee bar and bathroom and shower facilities. It was really the best of both worlds! Tyla was so kind and hospitable. She even helped us out by jumping our car when we accidentally let the battery die. We really enjoyed visiting with her and her various animals. Overall, an absolutely wonderful time. We can’t wait to go back again!

We only stayed for one night at the cabin and wish we could’ve done two. This is a rustic cabin and we were prepared for that. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, the gorgeous wildflowers and views, and the simple but comfortable accommodation. We had minor issues lighting the stove but followed instructions and the last reviewers notes and got it started. We didn’t shower, so can’t comment on that. The porta potty was very clean. We brought our camp lantern and mostly used that while we played games. Spring is a great time to visit and we’d definitely return.

Artistic and secluded cabin right on the Sandy River. Deep nature beauty and peace an hour from Portland. Everything you need for comfort glamping. They even shared an extension cord to charge my CPAP battery.

3 nights at Retired DNR Fire Watch Cabin

Amy’s place was so great! So many things to do around Trout Lake. I’m a hiker so I was in heaven! The place is clean, the bed is super comfy. We cooked outside with the Coleman stove and propane supplied by Amy. There a fridge, coffeee maker , bathroom with a shower in the next building over. So nice to have that. Definitely one of the best hip camps I’ve been to. Love that it is dog friendly!

This was such a beautiful spot and so relaxing. We enjoyed our stay! I definitely recommend bringing some extra water if you plan to shower or have lots of dishes that will need to be done.

2 nights at KLICKITAT VIEW CABIN

First time using Hipcamp and had a great time visiting this charming cabin. I loved all the artwork hung up and the old radio made the rustic atmosphere complete. Weather was perfect throughout our stay, with clear skies we took a trip to the Goldendale Observatory for their night tour which was amazing! This place has a few toilet options to pick from; a port-a-potty, a compost toilet in the front by the shower, and a toilet in the shed. Plenty of utensils for cooking and a refrigerator/freezer. Bring your own sheets, we brought our own pillows and blanket, but there was a comforter and pillows there in case you forgot. The bed upstairs is a king-sized bed with a cot. The only minor complaint is that because this is a pet friendly place, naturally there was dog hair everywhere on the floor and furniture when we arrived which made it a little tough tidying up. Not too bothered by it since we were looking for a getaway and a little dog hair is nothing. Unless you have pet hair allergies, I highly recommend this place.

Gorgeous, Stunning view of Mt. Adam’s. Peaceful. Cozy, charming cabin. Very comfortable bed. Rustic Charm. Obvious owners use and love the place themselves. Fantastic location to explore area. Stunning star-gazing and astronomy opportunity. Cons/should know: 12 V cabin electrical. If you need to run devices on AC (laptop) you may need an inverter. Or bring extra power banks for your devices. Overall, we had a great time and hope to return. ♥️

2 nights at KLICKITAT VIEW CABIN

Cute cabin in the middle of nowhere. Great place to really reset your mind. If you are someone who is used to primitive camping, then this is a place for you! If you are picky and expect higher end touches, this is not the place for you. Pros: Quiet and very comfortable bed. Cons: Not enough water on premises to take a shower (definitely bring your own). The shower is a portable propane heated kit that you need to set up manually. If you urinate often in the middle of the night, going up and down the narrow spiral staircase will be an issue for you; the portable potty is outside. There are no curtains upstairs, be prepared to wake as soon as that sun meets your eyes. Don’t forget to bring your own towels, hand towels, and bed linen. Trust me, you will want them. The propane “wood stove” took a bit of figuring out. The directions on top of the stove actually work better than what is in the owner’s welcome book. You will need to remove the front panel (door) completely by lifting up and out and manually light the pilot. Once it is lit, turn the nob below to on and switch to on (located on top of the device) at the same time. This will probably be difficult to do if you are visiting this place alone. Oh! And make sure the propane tank outside is on and that the orange nob behind the stove is turned to on, first, before attempting to light. There are two doors: only one door opens. This cabin will be hot in the summer.

This is the perfect place if you need to get away from it all. Close to great hikes and the Timberline Lodge for a one-of-a kind stop, plus skiiing. The place feels much bigger than the size and it had everything I needed. I will definitely come back.

Great spot on the river! Your own private sandy beach. Our dog was in heaven. The room was very cozy with candle lighting and the bed was very comfy! Everything is well marked and clear instructions provided. Would love to return !

This was one of the best Hipcamps my friends and I have been to! Joshua was super helpful and brought our camping gear to our campsite for us, has Venmo codes up to purchase more wood during your stay and was super responsive to messages. Would 100% stay here again :)

1 night at Marmot House Old Growth Forest

If you're looking for an experience in a remote forest which is also near civilization (and not far from breathtaking views of Mt. Hood), and a place which feels wild yet cozy, look no further! I had a very enjoyable stay, the hosts were welcoming, and it was quiet & peaceful. If you need a ton of elbow room for your vehicle, it might feel a bit on the cramped side, but for my car it was no problem. I hope to stay again soon!

The property is 17 acres of enchanted forestland with 300ft of Sandy River frontage. Both sides of the river are part of the Enchanted Forest There are a few walking paths and plenty of room to roam. Bring your paddle board or kayak to enjoy the river (Dependent on river level/current strength) The property is located within 2 miles from the Sandy Ridge Mountain bike trails and Barlow Wayside hiking trails. It's approximately 20 minutes to Government camp, ~ 35 minutes to Timberline for skiing and biking and an additional ~ 15 minutes to Mt. Hood Meadows. Approximately 50 min to PDX airport, and 1 hour to downtown Portland.

Marmot House is a lush 13 acres of mostly old growth forest in the foothills of Mt. Hood, right on the Historic Oregon Trail. It is close to hiking, biking, and forested waterfalls a short drive away. We have beautiful short hikes on trails in our forest on the property. World class windsurfing 30 miles away in Hood River, as well as more amazing waterfall hikes in the Columbia River Gorge. The Sandy River recreation area is just up the road from us and we are 10 mins. from The Sandy Ridge Trail with its 17 miles of mountain bike trails. Each campsite is tucked in the woods and has access our communal fire pit at our gathering space. Our well water tastes amazing! The is not a developed campground, it is our home. We see ourselves as stewards of this hidden forest gem and welcome people to enjoy its beauty. We are avid campers and recently spend 9 months in our teardrop trailer off grid on public lands. Living here we are three family members, one renter and short term volunteer traveler workers. We all work from home, Arehn a spiritual life coach, who loves to cook, Jim a software engineer and disc golfer, son Ian, software engineer and writer and Zuzu, forest fire fighter and logger lives in a separate apartment on the property.

Deer & elk walk through the property on a fairly regular basis depending on the season, it's less than a mile walk (or short drive) to the Wind River & a swimming hole, & a short distance further is the Pacific Crest Trail. A 20-minute drive & you're at the Columbia River. An hour to the West is Portland if you are in the mood for some city life, & 35 minutes east is Hood River, a gorgeous old town with tons of charm. The closest town, Stevenson, Washington is home to shops, local restaurants, & access to the Columbia River. Also in close proximity are amazing waterfalls, trails, & National Forest roads that are close by & well maintained. No matter the season there is something to do a short distance from the property. Keep in mind that the property is very rugged except for the trails we have provided to access other parts of the property. We are as off grid & sustainable as possible- while no electricity or running water is available at the individual sites, we provide battery or solar operated lighting, & a container of water for each site.

Cabin has one Queen bed and a fold out cot under the bed. Max capacity 2 adults and 2 children. What makes this cabin cool? Well, it is a retired DNR fire watch cabin! The cabin is as original as can be! Equipped with battery operated and solar lights along with propane heat! Porta potty right next to it for your use! There is a full bathroom and amenities to include fridge, microwave, coffee pot and air fryer just a short walk away! Dishes are not included and cooking utensils are very limited. Winter sports galore up here right now! Cross country skiing, snow shoeing, ample parking for snow mobile trailers! OR bring your favorite book and come enjoy a peaceful restful weekend! Springtime is a gorgeous time of year up here and turkey season is a favorite! Ample room for boats/trailers if you are considering hitting Drano lake for some springer salmon fishing! It is apx 30 minutes away. In the summertime come up and enjoy the hiking! Sleeping Beauty trail is just a few minutes away and you are within 30 minutes or Hood River if you are looking to explore and check out wineries. There are cheese caves, ice caves, Goose Lake, Council Lake and so much more! Fall is one of my favorite seasons! Hood River fishery has been amazing and the fall colors can't be beat! There is a fire pit and campfires are welcome when there is not a burn ban. Trout Lake Inn is a local favorite up here and check their Facebook to see what live entertainment they have coming up. Pets are welcome - please make sure they are well behaved and are kept close to the cabin. I do have my own friendly dogs (Ruby and Muskett) on the property, but they do not have access to the cabin area. Come enjoy the mountain air - it is good for the soul! **No parties - limit of 2 adult guests and up to 2 children. No illegal drugs. No smoking or vaping inside cabin or the bathroom/hospitality room.
