I had been searching for over 2 years for a property where I could make a difference in the environment and live in the wilderness. I was looking for water on a large tract of land that was remote. In 2017 I found the perfect property and to my dismay it had sold 2 days before I saw the listing. I was shocked because this was the perfect property. In my 2 years of searching I knew exactly what I wanted and this was the property. It had a private lake with fish. A solar cabin with a flush toilet and hot shower. The cabins 8 foot windows faced West for magical sunsets and view of the storms that roll in from the coast. It was beautifully treed with just the right amount of open meadow and forest with Hemlock, Ponderosa pine, and Larch. How could this property be sold? I tried to let it go but thought about it for the next year. After a year and a half had passed and my search continued I came across an advertisement for this magical property, it was up for sale again. I called the real estate agent immediately and found that an offer had been made but the buyers could not commit for 5 more months. I made an offer that day not really knowing how I was going to pull off the money. I knew this property was meant for me. I wrote the owner a letter explaining that I was a land steward and that this land would never be developed. I would be putting it in a land trust where no developers could put up condos. The owner happened to be a environmentally focused human and he ended up selling to me. Come to find out when I had first saw the property sold a year and a half before, that transaction had fallen through. The owner had just taken it off the market for the winter. Weekend Trip to Nirvana Gardens

We really loved our stay at Matt's cabin, which was so homey and comfortable. The solar cabin was easy to use, and we had plenty of energy for all of our needs. The cabin sits on a very quiet 100 acres, and we had a blast playing around in the lake and running around the property with our dog, who got to be off leash the entire time. A few things to note: The cabin is pretty remote, and the road is slow, so definitely stock up on groceries ahead of time! (The kitchen is well equipped, so cooking is easy there.) The road up to the cabin is narrow but in very good shape right now--our AWD Volkswagen ID.4 handled it just fine in mid-September. Also, while at the cabin, we did run into one neighbor passing by in his pickup truck (he was very friendly) and one propane delivery truck, so keep that in mind if you have a dog (like ours) who is a car chaser. (Luckily we could hear the trucks long before we saw the trucks!) Also, we could get intermittent cell service, especially on the hillier parts of the property, if you need to use your phone or check e-mails occasionally while there. But Matt's cabin is a wonderful place for completely ignoring your phone if you can! Finally, Matt is a lovely person, and he's very easy to communicate with. We're very much looking forward to visiting again.

We truly loved our 3 days/nights at this location! The house is extremely comfortable with plenty of amenities. Exploring the lake by SUP & floating tubes was a favorite daily activity, along with simply waking up there, gazing out the windows, reading, playing games, and enjoying the quite & non-digital life for a bit.

When I was searching for rural/off the grid, this is exactly what I was talking about! When we pulled up to the house, the first thing we saw were 5-6 deer gathered in the yard chomping on grass. I was particularly excited about this trip because I got to bring my extremely anxious dog with us. From the minute we got there to the second we left, I have never seen my boy so relaxed and in his element. He was allowed to be off leash, and explore. It was so amazing and refreshing to watch him be so carefree! We sat around staring/listening to the deer, birds, ducks, turtles. We took our paddle boards around the lake and it was so unbelievably quiet and peaceful! If you want to get away from the noise and the people, this is your place!

Weekend Trip to Nirvana Gardens

My wife and I had one of the most relaxing stays on vacation that I believe we have ever had! Upon arrival, you feel as if you are in the most remote peaceful place that you only imagine about. The first thing we saw across the lake was a spiraling water spout due to one rogue gust of wind that whipped directly toward us across the lake and swept right over us and immediately after that an eagle swooped down upon the lake.(Sounds scary, but it wasnt lol. It's a mountainous region and its to be expected). Didnt think much of it at the time but kind of had a profound meaning after it happened. After that, it was as peaceful as could be. We watched deer wander through the surrounding area with little to care of our existence every day that we were there. We both spent hours just relaxing with a book, sitting in the sun on the deck or out on the dock. Do you enjoy just seeing nature? You will enjoy the vast amount of it! Chipmunks, turtles, birds of all kinds and many a dragonfly! The cabin is cozy as can be and was quite comfortable even in the 90° weather that we experienced while we were there as long as you use the covers in the daytime. You feel as if you are the only people on the planet and every moment is yours. Matt is also very great at communicating what is needed and he is a very gracious host and seams like just a wonderful human being. We definitely hope to make it back someday!

This place and his wonderful host is so wonderful that it’s absolutely worth making not only a detour but also add it as a target. The mountains and its views are very special and you have an amazing view. We would love to come back – but next time for a longer stay. It’s the perfect spot. We were super happy to have found Native Pines! We had been boondocking our way through Washington but, when temps approached 100F, we decided we needed some A/C and a breather. While all the sites are 30amp only, it was still sufficient for keeping our big rig cool enough, and we were happy to have sewer to be able to do some laundry. The sites are nestled into a pocket in the woods behind (but out of site of) a motel. Our 44' fifth wheel had plenty of room to maneuver within the property as well as fit into one of the back-in sites. It was peaceful and within a 7 minute drive to a beautiful, riverfront park (Roosevelt National Rec Area on the Columbia River) where we did some paddleboarding. And, you can't beat the rate of $35! Thank you John and Michelle!

We camped at Native Pines for two nights over the 4th of July, and even then it was peaceful and quiet. We prefer to stay in campgrounds with few sites for that very reason. All the camp sites, arranged in a circle, were visible to us, but many of the other guests were gone during the day, returning in the evening. We had a great time there.

2 nights at Whistlin' Pine Ranch Resort

Whistlin Pines was awesome! Tara is so kind and welcoming. Our friend and I booked campsites that were a bit far from each other and she remedied that and we had the perfect setup. Tara also checked in with us midway to make sure that the large group in the cabins weren't being too rowdy/loud for us at night (they weren't!) which was appreciated. The area itself is super gorgeous and private. Way way better than the state campground. So much room to explore. We loved the beach, and the kids loved paddleboarding. The lake is clean and safe. Even as a lifelong Washingtonian, I was surprised at the amount of wildlife there. Dragonflies, birds, ducks, and many more. So lovely. We will be back!
