I stopped through for one night on my way from FL to upstate NY. The fresh breeze, soughing ancient trees, and gently stunning views were a soothing and reinvigorating balm after a long muggy drive. Tamara is a friendly, interesting, interactive host, and her set-up here is truly a work of art - and an immersive history lesson. She is only the fourth owner of this very special property - which is 130 years old, surrounded by dairy farms, most of which are industrializing, but the land (still shared with the palpable presence of a widespread, long-established Mennonite community). The experience gives a keen and enveloping sense of what things were like back-when. The sleeping quarters and water closet are in the sweet little building behind her house that was the 'summer kitchen' at one time. While the accommodation is basic by our persnickety modern standards, it holds long-lost, historically accurate ways intact, and has much to offer those who are willing to relax into its rich and rewarding charms. Tamara kept close company with me during my visit, and I relaxed into this as well, thanks to her warm, funny, and knowledgeable personality. Her gorgeous Gmn Shepherd, Willow, friendly cats and laying hens joined in the hostessing, and Willow passed the night with me in my little dwelling, protecting me while I slept in the loft, and the whole property on her night patrols. Door open! A solid sleep helped me finish my trip with fortitude. Bring your kids, or someone's kids!

We stayed in Moonshine, a little cabin. It was private, small and quaint. Beautiful remote setting on cute farm with animals who could be characters in a storybook. Bed was comfortable and sheets were soft. Highly recommend, if you enjoy this kind of experience!

This was such a lovely place to stay after spending the day in the Shenandoah! We felt immersed in nature, able to listen to the trees and birds, but also felt so cozy in the little cabin. We also got to meet the dogs and goats and help feed the farm birds which was very fun :)

I was unable to visit due to weather. Tamara was amazing in communicating and coordinating a refund and getting us set up for next time. My only complaint is with Hipcamp making the system so clunky. See you soon!

Weekend Trip to Shenandoah Retreat by Hazard Mill

The site surrounding the cabin was beautiful. Although we did not end up using it, the fire pit with included cookware looked extremely useful, as well as the bear proof cooler. We were able to stay warm with the provided blankets, and had an amazing time relaxing in the woods. The host is extremely friendly. I would 100% recommend.

Lovely spot right on the water. The owner helped my friend when their car got stuck. Has all your basic needs.

Moonshine was a lovely spot in a densely wooded and secluded area. Very private. Wonderful little one room cabin. Perfect for couples. Primitive site with fire pit and outhouse, but the bed made all the difference. Thanks Jennifer!

Weekend Trip to Cross Creek Farm

We had a great weekend camping on Rodney’s farm. He was very kind to us when we arrived and took us to the tiny home. Inside it has everything you need: full kitchen with an induction burner, shower with hot water, comfy bed in the loft, WiFi, and a great spot for making a campfire and enjoying nature. We would definitely love to stay here again :)

My husband and I really enjoyed staying here. Jennifer was quick to respond and they had very clear directions. Very comfortable bed and private area. I would definitely recommend this place. It was only 15 minutes from the hike we were doing early in the morning so it was perfect!

Rodney and Tara have a beautiful piece of property out in the country and were very hospitable. My brother and I stayed in their tiny house for a weekend of golfing. It was comfortable and had everything one would need for their visit. We did not take advantage of visiting their farm animals, but wish we had. From the moment we pulled in we were greeted with warm open arms by Tam and her lovely, well trained dog named Willow. The property is vibrant and you can tell a lot of love and intention is put into it. There is a massive pine tree with chairs and lights that is the perfect place to unwind both during the day and at night. Tam went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and even started the fire where we cooked our dinner using her homegrown herbs and garlic. Watercress Inn at Landon Farm

Welcome to our small Farm, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison County, Virginia. Located just minutes from Shenandoah National Park, we offer intimate nature-inspired cottages and camping on our 120-acre working farm. Enjoy an evening under the stars with fireflies and a campfire after a long day hike, fly fishing on one of our beautiful trout steams or touring the local vineyards and breweries. We currently offer one cottage, glamping and a few campsites for our guests. Our campsites are all private, located acres apart with tables, chairs, firepits, some elevated sleeping areas, some hammock spots and a few with a roof. Three of our spots require walking away from your vehicle, short distances. We have four drive-in sites that will accommodate two or three vehicles. We do not allow RVs or trailers on our main farm due to our narrow mountain driveway. Wisteria Camp has a private driveway, it can accommodate small RV/Trailers. Camper vans are welcome at the main farm! Our farm store includes our Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy, as well as produce, jams, coffee and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours. The property has miles of trails along mountain spring-fed streams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon (20 minutes) and Old Rag Mountain (10 minutes) trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards and breweries. Originally part of Blake Farm, built in the 1930's. Blake Farm was subdivided into 5 acres farmettes in the 1990's. The original farmhouse is next door, now known as Agape Farms. The forest has reclaimed much of the original Blake Farm land. Visit over 4 acres of available land, from the pastures, to the wooded creek, or the very back edge of the farm abutting deep woods. Spend relaxing time petting the Nigerian Dwarf goats, Rhode Island Red chickens, and the super-friendly livestock guard dogs (Thomasina, Bucky, and Sarge).
