A canoe is available for rental and your hosts can assist with planning river trips from one-half mile to 20 miles (overnight). Shuttle service is included with canoe rental. History has it that the Tye River was Teddy Roosevelt's favorite fishing stream. Rocky Run Landing is a good location to either begin or end a paddling or tubing trip on the Tye/James Rivers. A canoe is available for rental and your hosts can assist with planning river trips from one-half mile to 20 miles (overnight). Shuttle service is included with canoe rental. Tubes are also available for a lazy drift downstream. Charcoal grills may be requested for use at the cabin or in the riverside picnic area (guests provide charcoal). The screened porch offers a serene view of Buffalo Ridge to the south across the river (if the leaves aren't too thick). Turn on the porch ceiling fans, relax in the porch swing, and whistle back to the whippoorwills. As the evening gets quiet, let the roar of the Tye River rapids lull you to sleep. If you decide you’d like to forgo seclusion and venture into the outside world during your stay, many places of interest are within a day trip of Rocky Run Landing. Jeffersonian and other historic properties abound, Civil War sites are easily accessible, Wintergreen Resort offers a variety of activities, and kid-friendly excursions are within kid-tolerance driving distance. Your hosts will be happy to recommend itineraries based on your interests and will check with Wintergreen to ensure any desired activity is available. Many wineries, breweries, and cideries are also in the area, along with local artisan shops. Rocky Run Landing is appropriate for a family vacation, spiritual sojourn, romantic escape, adventure quest, artist's or writer's retreat, friends' get-away, or sight-seeing base. This beautiful piece of the Shire was so peaceful and gave my partner and i a wonderful getaway. We loved the little touches (hobbit garb, Middle Earth tarot cards, Tolkien-inspired pottery, flickering lanterns, etc!) and the beautiful craftsmanship of the whole home. We stayed during a cloudy period so relied on the generator for heat, which worked completely fine and the owner sent helpful instructions for using it ahead of time. Highly recommend this spot, it’s really sweet and magical!

The tiny home was so well equipped and cozy. Clinton was communicative and kind, and even cranked up the generator when we arrived later than intended after a hike. Really enjoyed our weekend here! The campsite was spacious, private, and quiet, so you feel secluded even though you’re only about a 10-min drive to amenities, including a good grocery option. The tiny cabin is extremely clean/well cared for. We didn’t end up using it much as we set up tents to sleep in, but it was great for storing food and having a back-up bed option. Would definitely stay here again!
