Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. Weekend Trip to Arcadia Sanctuary

We had a wonderful experience! Fran was lovely when we checked in and out! Buddy and Ally (the dogs) kept us company throughout the night and made us feel secure! Mr. Duck and the various cats were also lovely to meet! We were the only campers that night, so it felt very private. Just a heads up that most campsites are directly next to another campsite! I would definitely come back with a larger group and reserve two adjacent campgrounds!

Weekend Trip to Thunder BRidge

Great site, we will be back again. The tent sites and cabins look amazing. We stayed in the RV site with electric and water. It was easy to get to and set up. The only negative is that you are close to the road and get the traffic noise. There is lots of room to roam and let kids and dogs play.

Weekend Trip to James River Depot

Wendy's Hipcamp was amazing! The location along the James River was absolutely stunning. Our site felt secluded from the other sites and had plenty of space for hanging out. We loved waking up and walking right down to the river to enjoy our coffee. The location is close to Natural Bridge State Park and Wendy's recommendation for Natty B Cafe was the perfect spot to grab food in the area.

Weekend Trip to Stoney Creek Campground

I have visited several times my favorite is site #9. I plan on returning many times. It is peaceful, close to local sites and the country store is very convenient. Chris is constantly improving his place. I would and have highly recommend to others that is looking for a peaceful place to get away to.

1 night at James River Depot

Nice location on the water with large sites. It was helpful to have firewood there, and the porta potti was sufficient and stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
