Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water.
Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space.
Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life.
All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.

Welcome to Peaceful Meadows Farm. We have 250 acres for you to explore and enjoy.When you arrive you will drive up to your campground destination which is 16 acres of Loblolly Pine trees. There is a 1 1/2 acre pond stocked with Catfish, Bass, Crappies, Brim and Shell Cracker. Also there are two smaller ponds with minnows and one is home to Tucker the Turtle 🐢 .
We have several trails on the property to walk as well. You are welcome to 🐠 fish BUT FISHING IS CATCH AND RELEASE PLEASE. Each site will have a fire ring available and a picnic table. If you need anything else please let me know.
We are AUTISM Friendly 💙,so if you have a camper that needs a little more encouragement about camping or other accommodations please let your host know. You are welcomed to bring your furry family members, bikes and kayaks. There is no swimming in the pond. It was built for fishing so it’s not safe to swim due to structures under the water for the fish.
We are only 30 minutes from Carter’s Mountain, Monticello and Jefferson Winery’s. Thistle Gate Winery is only 5 minutes away and 20 minutes to Scottsville were you can enjoy the James River. UVA sports complex is only 30 minutes away and you’re able to go the back way in to skip the gridlock of the traffic.

I loved everything about it. Came with 2 kids (age 6 and 10). Spent the night. Enjoyed the wildlife (cows, donkeys and sheep) and the firepit. The house was heated with great facilities as described. Would recommend.

I decided last minute to get out for a quick overnight trip and do some camping/fishing. Found this place not too far from me. It’s wintertime so I had the place to myself, except a bunch of Beavers and some Deer. Everything was as described, I think even during the warmer months there is enough separation between sites that you would have a good amount of privacy while still being right near the water. There are kayaks for use and lots of good fishing spots. The host was cool and helpful. Highly recommend.

An absolutely beautiful property! I camped for four days with full hookups. I arrived just after dark and I was escorted to my site and guided in. The camping area on their property is forest with with perfect gravel roads and campsites. There was a picnic table and fire pit available and the site was level with plenty of room on both sides.
I was in the area to see family for Thanksgiving at Lake Monticello. The campsite is only twenty minutes away which was perfect.
Everything was five stars and I plan to stay there again next time I am in town. I loved this place and highly recommend it over other nearby campsites.

My friend and I stayed at the "Hillside lakefront near Beach" campsite. I liked the site because it was very private. The site sits behind the goat and chicken farm, so be preppared for them to roam around your site. They generally didn't bother us, however the roosters did wake us up at the crack of dawn, as they're known for.
The site was spacious, had a table and fire pit, beautiful lake views, and was a short walk from the kayaks. The site was a 30 minute drive from Pleasant Grove Park, which had miles of easy, scenic hiking trails.
Charles and Steven were very responsive and explained to us where our site was, where to find additional firewood, the kayaks, the porta-potty, dumpster, and the general layout of the property.

We thoroughly enjoyed our campsite. We had site #2, a little peninsula that juts out into the lake. There were several spots that we could have pitched our tent, but we decided to pitch it right on the peninsula, surrounded on 3 sides by water. If you want more of a windbreak, you can camp closer to the firepit. The campsite was nice and cleared, surrounded by large trees, and had a nice picnic table. We didn’t end up using any of the provided boats but did use the porta potty, which was very clean. There is a big dumpster on site to dump your trash. Would highly recommend this place. Not totally secluded (we could still hear our neighbor’s music and talking in the distance, but also not crowded at all. It’s a nice in between. Glad we had a 4-wheel drive truck, so just take it slowly on the road that runs the perimeter of the lake to your spot. Our host was very responsive.

What a beautiful spot. We were lucky that our site was close to the access road, some of the sites are better accessed by cars with more ground clearance. Charles showed us two spots to get water and directed us to the Portopotty. The site was clean and had a firepit as well as a picnic table. The views of the water were beautiful. Loud site neighbors were our only downside, but that’s not a permanent feature! We hope to come back next year.

We absolutely loved our visit at Peaceful Meadows! Michelle and Wendell are super nice and helpful. They definitely made us feel like family and we felt at home. My daughter caught her first, second and third fish there. The place is just beautiful and this is our new favorite spot!

We loved this campsite! We had plenty of space for the kids to run around and had plenty of fishing areas to cast from. I would definitely recommend this site again!
