Free Verse Farm is a hilltop herb farm run by two art-making, herb-loving farmers. The property boasts twenty sloping, knoll-laden, open acres overlooking the First Branch of the White River as it passes through the scenic village of Chelsea, Vermont. We have incredible views, forest trails that offer magical woodland wanderings, and spacious campsites in our fields.
We also invite you to explore our cultivated fields of herbs and vegetables and become acquainted with the wide variety of tea, culinary, and medicinal herbs that we grow and process on our farm. You can also visit with the cows that spend their summer munching our delicious green pastures.
Our full line of herbs and herbal products are for sale via our website or at Free Verse Farm Shop, located just one mile from our farm in downtown Chelsea. Our Farm Shop offers a wide variety of fresh produce, provisions, fresh baked goods, alcoholic (& non-) beverages, and more to enjoy during your stay or as you continue on your journey.
AMENITIES: we offer a hot outdoor shower & sink, as well as an outhouse with a composting toilet. Each campsite has a firepit and a picnic table.
CAMPSITE DETAILS: We currently have 2 campsites open. They are located in meadows with beautiful views of the First Branch Valley and Chelsea village. 4 wheel drive is recommended, but not necessary, and you are always welcome to hike up to your site. The site is spacious and private.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: We also run Free Verse Farm Shop (OPEN: Tuesday-Friday 11am-6pm, Saturday 9am-3pm), a local grocery, café, and apothecary to serve our community and visitors to the area, while supporting local farms and artisans. You can also pre-order online (shop.freeversefarm.com) to pick up in store or ship your order around the USA.
The village of Chelsea hosts a weekly summer farmers market May-September on Fridays from 3-6pm (mid-May through September). In downtown Chelsea there is gas station (110 Quickstop), two town commons, a small library, and a general store (Will's Store), and a farm stand (Chicken Wiggle Farm).
Within 20-45 minutes of our farm you can reach the larger towns of Montpelier (state capital), South Royalton, Randolph, Woodstock, White River Junction, and the Upper Valley Region (Dartmouth College), all of which offer a wide variety of attractions and services. Upon your arrival, you will be given a welcome packet with more detailed information about our area, and we'll be happy to provide you with any other tips you're looking for.

We live on 52 wooded acres in a natural area surrounded by lakes and ponds just 14 miles north of Montpelier VT. We are located on the Green Mountain Gravel Growler bike packing trail and 7 miles south of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. We have lots of hiking , biking, boating and swimming opportunities nearby. Our amenity's include a bath house and laundry. We have two 30 amp RV sites with full hook ups and 4 tent/small RV non electric sites. We are 100% solar powered and have good WIFI but no cell service. We cater to small quiet groups who can enjoy our peaceful setting. If your are bike packing and our sites are booked just text or stop in we will accommodate you.
The campground is located along our town road and the sites are 50 - 100 feet apart along our driveway. This is not a wilderness experience you will have neighbors, including us.
We are a family friendly, non smoking campground. We are open early May till late October. Pets on leashes are OK. Quiet time is all the time :~). 12 and under free, no Generators.

6 Sites are on Sunrise Farms 75 acre Conservation land with 50 mile view for Sites 1 and 2. Very quiet area with lots of wildlife and ponds and disc golf. Very quiet with great swimming and lots of hikes right from your sites.
2 of the Brookside Sites (Wishbone Left and Right) are close by (2.7 miles) where we have another 1/2 mile of river frontage and can handle bigger groups as Conservation land on Sunrise Farm only allows 4 campers per site.
Sunrise Farm Sites 1 and 2 have oodles of space and Spectacular 50 mile views of Mount Monadnock with no house lights out there in the evening except the party string lights we provide.
Site 1 (with entrance 70 yards south of the farmhouse) is best for camping in with up to 20 foot trailers or multiple tents …on the large flat spaces in the 25 acre field to choose from.
Great Well water available near farmhouse. Biodegradable soaps Only if used in the ponds. Double Olympic sized Swim Pond we stock with Rainbow Trout to keep clear.
We have been advised Not to allow imported firewood (can import Wood Beetle dangerous for our forest).
- PLEASE use the Firewood bundle tubs we provide ($12.50) - pick up at the farmhouse or pull wood from the woods (and make it safer for use).
Beautiful and plenty of wildlife nearby... as well as Outhouses are marked on Map we provide with solar lights marking them at night. Do Not Leave food out when camping or away from site. Bears are rarely seen but it is wild country. Sites have locking garbage lids.
Unique and lovely as well as being next to trails and roads to miles of remote spots with very few if any ... people.
In Winter we request only AWD vehicles go down to this site or park up by farmhouse and hike in so you can easily get out. When wet park up by the road if you have 2 wheel drive.
Always WISE to arrive When LIGHT out as we do not live at the site and are not able to show guests to their sites as a result.

HIKING
Take a hike through our woods or access the thousands of acres adjacent to our property. You will see waterfalls, streams, birds, tracks from the wildlife, and beautiful views. Plenty of places to dip into the cool water when you need to cool off! Walk or drive down to either of 2 covered bridges and see the craftmanship that enables them to continue to be used today! Access the Long Trail at multiple locations within a few miles.
BIKING
Bike the back roads of the area—wooded areas, windy or flat terrain, beautiful views, plenty of spots to rest beside a flowing stream. Or, access the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail (93+ miles of non-motorized riding/walking on a converted and maintained railway bed).
FISHING/HUNTING
In the mountains we have streams, brooks, and rivers. There are many hotspots for fishing—lots of brook trout! No matter the rod you use, there are many places to try your skills. A fishing/hunting license is needed.
CANOE, KAYAK, TUBE
Got your own? Bring it! The Lamoille River is a few miles away and a favorite for water lovers. Don't have one, there is a great rental place down the road where you can take one out for the day. Looking for another option to the river? The Belvidere Pond is down the road and offers a peaceful place to paddle around surrounded by the mountains.
MAPLE SYRUP/SUGARBUSH
Want to learn about the maple sugaring process? We are always happy to give you a tour of our sugarhouse and the woods, and explain how we turn the tree sap into yummy Maple Syrup. (We only boil January-early April.) We do have this year's crop bottled and available for sale! Buy one for morning pancakes, to add to your morning coffee, or to take home!
WILDLIFE/BERRIES/MUSHROOMS/FIDDLEHEADS
Depending on the time of the year, you can find wild raspberries, blackberries, mushrooms, and fiddleheads. (Please do not pick or eat something if you don't know if it is poisonous!) And, wildlife are around. Look for tracks in the soil, signs they have been there, or if you are really quiet (usually in the early morning or at dusk) you might see deer, geese, or wild turkeys!

Camp sites include flat area, fire ring. Electricity and water at 2 sites. 1 site has a poured concrete pad -- perfect for a camper/RV. The other sites (grassy) can accomodate a camper/RV or tents. Please be prepared to provide your own camping toilet and pack out your trash. If you bring your dog(s), please clean up after them and have "control" as the dirt road is fully in view of the sites. (ATVs (on the trail) and a few vehicles do use the road.)

Art classes and materials are available, for pottery [ beginner to advanced.] as well as sketching, fabric dyeing, plen air, or making mandalas. I do have leather tools, sewing machines, and stained glass. Bring your project or try a new one.
Lots of space in the common barn area for group lesson, or set up a spot and enjoy all by yourself!
Cabot has lots to offer for day trips, be it water sports, rail trail on bikes or walking, music, and cultural events, or purchasing fresh milk, beef, eggs, apples,
cheese, or homemade breads, all from Cabot. Contra Dance, music from Cabot Arts, or at the Den our local pub, are 2 miles away. The Bread and Puppet, Highland Center for the Arts, Barre Oprah house, art galleries, etc within an hour
drive in any direction.
A great place for children, I have swings and trees to climb, games, archaeological digs, scavenger hunts finding 10 different antique farm implements, and learning how they were used, to learning about mini microbe's and how to be friends with pollinators.
Massage including scar release, and MPS, Cranial Release, energy work with tuning forks and singing bowls are available. Singing bowl concert in the gardens can also happen! Expect the unexpected! See you soon!

There is a cabin on the property, which is available for limited rentals. However, we have a great flat yard just a short (2 min) walk to South Pond thats perfect for a tent. There's a rustic outhouse, fire pit, picnic table, and usually games like badminton setup. Our property is a couple miles down a private dirt road. Fishing is great (with a license of course), and the water is perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding.

This land use to be owned by the Tabor Farm family in the early 1800s and was a multienerstional farmed that used to encompass 100s of acres of adjacent land. During the mid 1950s the property was sold to the Douglas family that upgraded and retrofitted the traditional, historic wooden post and beam barn to accommodate dairy cows to produce milk until the early 1970s. The land was then broken up and sold by the Douglas family to the Hubbard family where they raised pigs and rented the barn to raise young dairy Holsteins calfs with
The land was finally purchased by the current owner and Harris family with the purpose of restoring the historic barn to its former condition while simultaneously building, designing, and planting edible forest gardens and fruit trees with the sole purpose of providing food for the Harris family, nearby neighbors, and the greater Fairfax community.
Overall goal for Serenity Meadows and HarrisValleyOrganics farm is to increase biodiversity, foster sustainable lifestyles, and make a livable income to reinvest into the community and continual building edible forest gardens that will continue to feed the next seven generations.

Fun, private RV glamping on the famous Battenkill River. Our backyard is your slice of paradise. Trout fishing out the door! When the river is safe you can use inflatables or kayaks for floating down the river. Outside your own picnic area with table chairs and a fire pit and grill. Inside is a bath with shower but we recommend the outdoor hot shower. Kitchen has a gas stove and oven, microwave and a Refrigerator/Freezer. Radio and Cell Service. Huntress Haven Farm is located in the scenic valley of the First Branch of the White River. One of the main attractions to the farm is the dairy goat herd (kids of all ages LOVE them) Because of the livestock we cannot allow dogs. In addition, we have farm dogs on the property; the dogs are very friendly, but they are also protective of the livestock. Guests have lots of fun access to the animals and are welcome to participate in milking and chores. There are many foraging opportunities year-round. Our sites are located along the beautiful South Washington Creek. Free wi-fi is provided.

This is, by far, THE best Hipcamp ever. Jon & Ann are so friendly and tend their land and camping spots with care & integrity. The bathroom/laundry room is great comfort add.

This place was amazing. We love off grid camping but decided to go here which had a tent set up with beds and linens. We bought our own linens cause of our dogs. Our site was the most secluded. Near a brook, and so quiet. Plenty of on site hiking trails. Host left wood at our site which we paid a small fee for. There was a full kitchen if you wanted to use as well as showers. we used the kitchen to fill water jugs and wash our dishes. Otherwise remained off grid. Base camp only allows access to guests via a secure coded gate.
Mike and Jane answered all questions. Loaned us a wagon to get our gear to our site. Dogs played off leash for hours.
Will be going back. Our site was Brooke Ledge.

Jon and Ann were great hosts. They were kind, answered our questions, and meticulously maintain the property, which includes nice restroom, shower, and laundry facilities. Plus there is potable water right at the campsite with a solar powered charging station. It had everything we needed to keep going on our backpacking trip through the area. I would definitely stay with them again. Thanks Jon and Ann!

We had a wonderful stay! The grounds are beautiful, and the variety of animals, plants, and insects made the experience feel truly connected to nature. It's clear that Ed puts a lot of care into maintaining the ecosystem—you can really see it in the diverse wildlife all around the property. One of the biggest surprises was how few mosquitoes there were, which meant we could comfortably enjoy watching the fireflies in the evening near the fire.
Our group of eight had plenty of space to relax, spend time together, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. We did get a few days of heavy rain, which made the grounds muddy, but that's simply part of being immersed in nature and not something anyone can control.
The community kitchen and gathering area were clean, well-maintained, and very convenient. Having a bathroom with fresh towels provided daily was a nice touch. Ed was friendly, welcoming, and did an excellent job keeping the shared spaces clean throughout our stay. We recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful getaway where you can relax and appreciate the beauty of nature.

I loved camping on Jon & Ann’s property! They were so warm and welcoming, and said we could take the kayak/canoes out on the pond. We felt so spoiled to have access to such a clean bathroom! The grill was really nice to have as well. The view was amazing & I love how dog friendly it was!
