Formerly a ranching town laid to waste by the Dust Bowl, this space was created to sustain wildlife and fish, as well as water and recreation resources in the county. Sagebrush open desert provides little shade, but the Stone Reservoir has some cool-off opportunities in the form of boating, swimming, and fishing. Just south of its older brother, this land spans Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho, and is a crucial spot for supporting caribou populations. None of the animals here are bashful: bison, moose, deer, mountain lions, falcons, elk, and even black bears abound! Beautiful to snap shot from a distance. Just south of the forest, Bear Lake is a fun spot to take a dip after you hike one of Caribou’s dozens of peaks (Mead Peak and Hawks Peak have gorgeous views, as does Big Elk Mountain at the northern tip of the park). At the south end, you’ll find campgrounds, fast flowing creeks, and the Minnetonka Cave at St. Charles Canyon. This is a site to see, but it stays 40 degrees down there all year so be sure to pack a coat, even if you’re sweating above ground. When you’re done, stop in the charming small town of Montpelier, surrounded by rolling hills and full of retro grocers and kitschy eateries. Yum!

Beautiful spot with a great view of City of Rocks and easy access to climbing areas. The campground was well laid out and everything was in good repair. It looked like they were working on improvements for next season - building nice little shade/ wind breaks in the tent sites. Cell coverage was weak in spots between I-84 and Almo when coming from the south so make sure you download directions.

Cord provided excellent directions to the site, which made getting there simple. Once we arrived, we were blown away by how peaceful and quiet it was. We loved camping on Shayna’s land! Hosts were super friendly and took us on a mini tour and introduced us to all the animals. The shower was hot and there was even shampoo, conditioner and towels. I wish we had one more night here. Def recommend!

This was our first time using Hipcamp. Everything went as planned. I think site #5 is the best site for a camper. We have a 15 foot Geo pro and had plenty of room to turn around. It’s also the highest spot on the hill and has a great view of Cache valley to the south. Word of caution: you will definitely want to arrive before dark (as per written instructions) otherwise it can be very confusing to locate your campsite.

We had a great stay at site #5! The directions were good and our 30 ft RV made it up the hill to site #5 with no problem. There was plenty of space to let the dogs run around. Our favorite part was watching the beautiful sunsets in the evening and star gazing at night. Would definitely stay again!!

I loved the location, however the campsite were pretty close (1-3), no one was there when we stayed but next time I’d opt for campsite 3 for more space away from others. I had internet at the top (Verizon). The toilet was a little rugged, and close to the ground, it was kinda gross. It looked like it had been a while since it was cleaned. However if you look past that it was the perfect place to stay for a day!
