We are a husband-and-wife team that purchased raw land in 2020 and have been building Glamping Canyonlands ever since. We privately own and operate a sustainable off grid property. We proudly run our business off solar power. We have a recycling and compost program along with happy pasture raised chickens and free range kittens. We work to reduce waste by supporting businesses that focus on the environment, health and using non-plastic products where we can. We use simple, clean, natural cleaning products. We do not use single use plastic and provide washable cotton paper towels and hand towels. We work with locals to bring you tours, pastries, breads and hand crafted souvenirs for you to remember your trip. We have a mix of different unique units so there is something for everyone. 3 bell tents, 1 stargazing lotus tent, 1 safari tent, cedar pod, moon stargazing barrel, solar powered casita and an unfurnished high rise tent. We have 22 acres and we are currently using around 5 acres. We like to space out our units so there is privacy at every units. We have a communal kitchen that is equipped to make some gourmet meals. Flat top grill, BBQ Box, pizza oven and a stove. Communal modern bathrooms with hand towels and bath supplies are available. Sauna is available to our guests along with coffee and breakfast delivery. Late check-ins are available. Located on private and rural land 40 mins South of Moab and 40 mins from the entrance of The Needles District of Canyonlands National Park (the hikers paradise park!) Our land borders Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands and State Trust Lands which means you have a panoramic view of the desert landscape and dark skies. We are surrounded by Dark Sky National Parks, State Park, Monuments and communities. Because of this, light population is almost non-existent. We built this place to be an escape or a place to unwind from our busy and loud daily lives. Embrace the break from the daily grind and find space here on the open desert. We opened to our first guests in October 2020 with only 3 bell tents, 1 bathroom and a kitchen inside a tent. Indian Canyon Ranch is a rugged, isolated, off grid property which focuses on enjoying the outdoor beauty of our little corner of the spectacular American South West. Please be advised, that during heavy rain four-wheel drive may be necessary but in all cases low clearance vehicles are not ideal on the last section of road but if you arrive before dark and go slow any vehicle can make it. If you arrive after dark the last bit of road looks more challenging than it actually is due to shadows on the surface caused by the head lights. Units are not heated. Please plan to show up before dark for the best experience and ease of finding the location. Indian Canyon Ranch is proud to be an independent, off grid property with limited solar power and water available. There are no RV hook ups available but there is limited solar power in the rental units and in the communal area but not in the primitive campsites. Campsites are primitive camping only. Showers in the main communal area are solar powered and only hot with the sun and for an hour or so after sunset Joe purchased this property in 2008. At that time, it was 8 acres, and it is now at 20 acres continuous property. The ranch is situated 2 miles off the highway down a bumpy dirt road on the edge of the national forest, this gives you a feeling of being in the wilderness. The south and east sides are boarded by canyons and ruins. All other private properties in the area are 10 acres or more so are well spread out and sparsely populated. All the structures on site were brought here piece by piece and were salvaged from construction projects in Yosemite and Grand Canyon national parks. Water is manually hauled in and the power in the kitchen area is solar generated so please be conscious of water and power use.

The Details The Orchard Camp includes two large safari-style tents, each with a king bed, water cooler, mini-fridge, sheets & towels. The tents share cooking and camp amenities like a two burner Coleman stove and a propane-fueled "fire pit," and games like corn hole. Your private Bathhouse offers two sinks, two showers, two toilets, an outdoor shower and an outdoor sink for your dishes. The Orchard, with its young fruit trees and wildflowers, is your private garden. The Property You'll have access to roam much of this 38 acre property which includes a hay farm, cliffside and clifftop trail and a section of McElmo Creek. We just ask that folks stay away from the private residence on site, which is well-marked. We love pets and kids but due to the Wildlife with a capital W (and the occasional skunk) with whom we share this land we must limit our guests to humans ages 8 and up. Southwest Colorado is a land of extremes. We get hot, cold and everything in between. The tents are canvas so we offer electric blankets and small space heaters for colder days, and fans for the warmer days. And in advance, we apologize for the high cleaning fee. When you're here you'll understand why with the large showerhouse and all its windows, the large canvas tents and big decks, etc.

Our family has lived in McElmo Canyon for over 40 years and the campground has hosted camping and outdoor educational groups since 1965. We are a family run ranch with an operating hay farm, horseback riding business, and carriage shop.

We had a wonderful time. This was our first time glamping and camping in general. Beautiful well kept property. Tents were super cute and spacious. The weather was perfect and we slept very comfortably at night, no heater needed. Loved the little details with signage and lighting. The kittens and chickens made the stay extra special. Awesome location close to the national parks we went to Canyon Lands and Arches. I would absolutely recommend!

Weekend Trip to Glamping Canyonlands

Gah! This place is a dream. Every thoughtful detail attended to which made it such a sweet, cozy stay. I loved staying in the glamorous Casita which has an ultra cozy mattress and beautiful finishings and furniture. Spent evenings swinging on the porch swing and mornings with coffee and a book in the Adirondacks. Loved the breakfast options to add on; the shared kitchen and deck for hanging out are perfect for all occasions. The hens were so friendly even wanting pets and to sit on me (which I loved). Two playful kittens sweetened the deal. Sunset strolls down a nicely plotted path takes you to the nearby mesas, and the epic barrel shower with the clear roof was icing on the cake. Can’t wait to come back next year! Such a special space with wonderful hosts.

Weekend Trip to Canyon Trails Ranch

We highly, highly recommend Canyon Trails Ranch and camping in the Conestoga wagon. The site is beautiful and the hosts are great - very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area, its history, and the indigenous peoples who called it home and still live in the area. The wagons and tent sites are surrounded by spectacular red rock scenery, with Ute Mountain and the Ute Mountain Ute tribal lands right across the road and Canyon of the Ancients National Monument bordering the other side of the ranch. The chuck wagon kitchen is charming and had all the cooking gear we needed. The Conestoga wagon we stayed in was comfortable and cozy, with great touches. It fit the four of us just fine It was also very solid and clearly well-built by very skilled craftsmen (be sure to check out Rodney & Christy’s barn and the wagons and wagon wheels that Joe & Rodney build and restore!) We loved being able to just hike up the hill above the site and be in Canyons of the Ancients in minutes - a real gem. Mesa Verde is great, but if you’re looking for something without the crowds, this place is where to be. We also recommend the horseback rides that Joe and Jessica lead - we went on the 3 hour kiva trail ride, and it was worth every penny. It was very special to get basically a private tour of 800 year old (or older) archaeological sites. Joe was a terrific guide and helped us tenderfoots be very comfortable on horses while also teaching us so much about the area. Not to be missed.

What a very thoughtful and stocked glamping experience we had! We brought all our own gear and stayed in the high rise tent. It was great to have a structure to come out of the wind and sun where I could do yoga, read, and nap inside. The amenities were so well organized, the kitchen is absolutely packed with everything you need to make a gourmet meal. The only challenge was timing as there are many other campers preparing meals. It may be helpful to have an outside cutting area and counter space for the grills. The sauna was wonderful first thing in the morning and relaxed the muscles after a cold night. The location is perfect for access to Needles and Canyon lands. Oh and the sky was so lite with no lights the star scene is epic. We will be returning.

We booked 2 nights in the High Rise Tent and were thrilled from the start. Keisha and Erik have designed this place with so much attention to detail that we can absolutely recommend it. The sanitary facilities were above average, the kitchen was very well equipped and stocked with everything you need for cooking but perhaps didn't take with you on the camping trip (spices, tea, coffee, etc.). The High Rise Tent smelled of fresh wood and wax and was a real highlight for us after a long time in a simple tent. Everywhere you went on this glamping site, you could feel that Keisha and Erik had chosen and designed everything with love. Erik's recommendation for a hike in Canyonlands NP was one of the highlights of our trip to America. Many thanks to Keisha and Erik for this wonderful place to stay, the great atmosphere and the warm welcome. We will be back!
