This Outpost and campground is located on 300 acres of private property surrounded by park and public land. It has been here for over 30 years in some form or another. We are Caleb & Amber who enjoyed managing this little oasis in the middle of the desert from March to June of 2017 when we decided to purchase the business & make it our own. This is a dry, rugged campground with a bathhouse that provides coin operated showers and flush toilets. In addition there is little old rustic camp store placed in the middle of nowhere where we provide fuel, snacks, firewood, ice, showers, cold drinks & more. If you are looking for a more private site with lots of space and shade, book our Small Group at the Rocks. For a warmer stay during the cooler months book one of our Glamping Tents listed. We have the larger, and spacious tent in the grove of the Juniper Trees (which is also amazing in the warmer season) and rent a heater from us inside the general/camp store. Our land borders Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands and State Trust Lands which means you have a panoramic view of the desert landscape and dark skies. We are surrounded by Dark Sky National Parks, State Park, Monuments and communities. Because of this, light population is almost non-existent. Indian Canyon Ranch is a rugged, isolated, off grid property which focuses on enjoying the outdoor beauty of our little corner of the spectacular American South West. Please be advised, that during heavy rain four-wheel drive may be necessary but in all cases low clearance vehicles are not ideal on the last section of road but if you arrive before dark and go slow any vehicle can make it. If you arrive after dark the last bit of road looks more challenging than it actually is due to shadows on the surface caused by the head lights. Units are not heated. Please plan to show up before dark for the best experience and ease of finding the location. Indian Canyon Ranch is proud to be an independent, off grid property with limited solar power and water available. There are no RV hook ups available but there is limited solar power in the rental units and in the communal area but not in the primitive campsites. Campsites are primitive camping only. Showers in the main communal area are solar powered and only hot with the sun and for an hour or so after sunset Joe purchased this property in 2008. At that time, it was 8 acres, and it is now at 20 acres continuous property. The ranch is situated 2 miles off the highway down a bumpy dirt road on the edge of the national forest, this gives you a feeling of being in the wilderness. The south and east sides are boarded by canyons and ruins. All other private properties in the area are 10 acres or more so are well spread out and sparsely populated. All the structures on site were brought here piece by piece and were salvaged from construction projects in Yosemite and Grand Canyon national parks. Water is manually hauled in and the power in the kitchen area is solar generated so please be conscious of water and power use.

This may be a deal breaker for some, but I believe that these are two things that make this cabin and location truly special. There is nothing to interrupt the time spent with your company and enjoying the beauty of the canyon. We do not charge an additional cleaning fee. The cleaning is paid from a percentage of the total booking cost. About 9 miles before the sheep camp, you will lose cell service, if you need anything you can contact me before then. Dirt Road Conditions – The road is maintained by San Juan County Road Department. During the summer months the road is easy to travel. Winter Guests, December through February AWD or 4WD is required because of snow. November and March weather varies so always check in about road conditions. We do recommend having a good spare tire in your vehicle and if you plan on touring the canyon and high ground clearance is strongly recommended. Weather – Blanding Utah mirrors our weather and temperatures better than Monticello Utah. Monticello is a lot higher in elevation than the ranch and usually 10-15 degrees cooler than the ranch. The sheep camp is peaceful and a truly special camping experience with basic necessities provided. The sheep camp is small, but cozy. The outer dimensions are 12 foot long by 6-1/2 feet wide giving you 78sq. ft. of living space inside. Because of this, the bed is shorter than normal. Bed dimensions are 58" wide by 72" long. The sheep camp does not have power, but we do provide propane and solar lanterns for lighting. The sheep camp does have a separate private bathroom with a hot shower, toilet, and sink. We provide towels. Potable drinking water is available at the sheep camp in the bathroom and at an outdoor faucet. The sheep camp has a propane grill for cooking. We provide propane and basic food prep and cooking supplies. The primary heat source is a wood burning stove, we provide free firewood to heat the sheep camp. We also provide small propane heaters for your convenience. The coffee maker is a stove top percolator that can be used on the grill, and we provide coffee and sugar. We also provide a French press. The sheep camp does not have laundry facilities. Summer Guests - The sheep camp does not have air conditioning, but we have fresh canyon air and nice cross breezes. Specifically, July and August guests, we are in the desert, and it can get quite warm. If you like it hot, then we have the place for you. Outdoor Fire Pit - Please bring your own firewood to use the fire pit. We have firewood bundles available for purchase at the Montezuma Market for your convenience. Check-in is 4:00p.m. and check-out is 11:00a.m. We ask you to be prompt when checking out. We have a short window to prep for the next guests before their check-in time. Smoking is not allowed inside of the sheep camp. Play in nature, relax in comfort. 2 spacious safari-style tents nestled in a small orchard with big views of Canyon of the Ancients. Your stay includes a private bathhouse with indoor and outdoor showers. Both tents have king beds and outdoor lounging areas and share a central campfire area. Clifftop hiking with views as far as Mesa Verde. We only accept one reservation at a time so the camp is all yours. The Details The Orchard Camp includes two large safari-style tents, each with a king bed, water cooler, mini-fridge, sheets & towels. The tents share cooking and camp amenities like a two burner Coleman stove and a propane-fueled "fire pit," and games like corn hole. Your private Bathhouse offers two sinks, two showers, two toilets, an outdoor shower and an outdoor sink for your dishes. The Orchard, with its young fruit trees and wildflowers, is your private garden. The Property You'll have access to roam much of this 38 acre property which includes a hay farm, cliffside and clifftop trail and a section of McElmo Creek. We just ask that folks stay away from the private residence on site, which is well-marked. We love pets and kids but due to the Wildlife with a capital W (and the occasional skunk) with whom we share this land we must limit our guests to humans ages 8 and up. Southwest Colorado is a land of extremes. We get hot, cold and everything in between. The tents are canvas so we offer electric blankets and small space heaters for colder days, and fans for the warmer days. And in advance, we apologize for the high cleaning fee. When you're here you'll understand why with the large showerhouse and all its windows, the large canvas tents and big decks, etc.

Weekend Trip to Glamping Canyonlands

We have never glamped before staying at Glamping Canyonlands. What a great find through hipcamp! Close but not in the crowds to explore The Needles District. Erik and Keshie’s thoughtful touches and witty humor made the stay fantastic! They really have thought about all the small details needed for a great stay. The ability to cook over fire or use the community kitchen (thankful for the french press), the showers/toilets, hammocks with shaded picnic tables. The kitties and chickens were fun to see and was great reading about their story on how they built Glamping Canyonlands. Stargazing at night and quiet mornings. We can’t wait to come back and bring friends!

Sheila’s place is such a unique experience! I loved staying here. There was a movie room (in a cave) to relax in and Sheila was kind enough to gift us some of her homemade jam. We bought a ton more from her market it was so good! Beautiful, relaxing, and cozy, I would stay here again!

I absolutely love this place! The vibes and aesthetic of it are perfect; Keshia and Erik have beautiful taste. The place was immaculately clean - cleaner than some hotels, and this is an outdoor accommodation. The facilities were always available and very tidy, full of any supplies you could need. The sauna was such a highlight and easy to book. There were even kittens and chickens running around, which added so much to the experience. Our space felt very private while being close to the amenities. Keshia and Erik make it look easy running this place! 100% will be back!

We had a wonderful time. This was our first time glamping and camping in general. Beautiful well kept property. Tents were super cute and spacious. The weather was perfect and we slept very comfortably at night, no heater needed. Loved the little details with signage and lighting. The kittens and chickens made the stay extra special. Awesome location close to the national parks we went to Canyon Lands and Arches. I would absolutely recommend!

Weekend Trip to Glamping Canyonlands

Gah! This place is a dream. Every thoughtful detail attended to which made it such a sweet, cozy stay. I loved staying in the glamorous Casita which has an ultra cozy mattress and beautiful finishings and furniture. Spent evenings swinging on the porch swing and mornings with coffee and a book in the Adirondacks. Loved the breakfast options to add on; the shared kitchen and deck for hanging out are perfect for all occasions. The hens were so friendly even wanting pets and to sit on me (which I loved). Two playful kittens sweetened the deal. Sunset strolls down a nicely plotted path takes you to the nearby mesas, and the epic barrel shower with the clear roof was icing on the cake. Can’t wait to come back next year! Such a special space with wonderful hosts.

Needles Outpost is a unique and wonderful experience, the location is unique just outside the park, Amber and Caleb are very nice, helpful and kind folks. We stayed in one of their tents. The tent was very nicely furnished with everything you may need. Extremely clean and easy to access. Keep in mind it was August so hot days but cooler nights. Highly recommended!!

Weekend Trip to Canyon Trails Ranch

We highly, highly recommend Canyon Trails Ranch and camping in the Conestoga wagon. The site is beautiful and the hosts are great - very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area, its history, and the indigenous peoples who called it home and still live in the area. The wagons and tent sites are surrounded by spectacular red rock scenery, with Ute Mountain and the Ute Mountain Ute tribal lands right across the road and Canyon of the Ancients National Monument bordering the other side of the ranch. The chuck wagon kitchen is charming and had all the cooking gear we needed. The Conestoga wagon we stayed in was comfortable and cozy, with great touches. It fit the four of us just fine It was also very solid and clearly well-built by very skilled craftsmen (be sure to check out Rodney & Christy’s barn and the wagons and wagon wheels that Joe & Rodney build and restore!) We loved being able to just hike up the hill above the site and be in Canyons of the Ancients in minutes - a real gem. Mesa Verde is great, but if you’re looking for something without the crowds, this place is where to be. We also recommend the horseback rides that Joe and Jessica lead - we went on the 3 hour kiva trail ride, and it was worth every penny. It was very special to get basically a private tour of 800 year old (or older) archaeological sites. Joe was a terrific guide and helped us tenderfoots be very comfortable on horses while also teaching us so much about the area. Not to be missed.

Weekend Trip to High Sage Hogans

Loved the rustic vibes of the site with quite a few farm animals to play with. Danny was super accommodating and had shared clear navigation directions to reach. It was a fun little trip for us with beautiful views very close to the Arches National Park.
