Weekend Trip to The Charmadillo: Glamping Resort

What a beautiful and thoughtful experience. Truly a pristine pocket of peace in the Texas Hill Country. We were welcomed warmly and Sarah was a gracious host. The attention to detail and overall quality of the stay was outstanding. Our stay was peaceful and would definitely recommend!

3 nights at Sparrow Bend River Retreat

I absolutely loved this camper! Private location, very well stocked, and the little deck with the comfy furniture was perfect first thing in the morning. I have watched deer while sipping coffee, lazed on the couch under the umbrella enjoying a nice breeze, and cooled my feet in the river in the late morning. It was the relaxation I needed with just the right amount of space. Alright TLDR is over so here is the breakdown. Pros: ~VERY WELL STOCKED for the most part (dishes, tea pots, towels, washcloths, even a outside sink for room to wash dishes, ect.) ~ gas stove (just remember to turn it on) ~ fantastic distance from the river ~ beautiful views (especially nighttime for stargazing) ~ Comfy furniture! Legit wanted to nap outside in good breeze. ~ Privacy! I could only see one cabin unless I went to the main camp grounds. ~ Public area's are also well stocked and taken care of Cons: ~Only one pot to cook on. There was a griddle as well but I didn't test it. Absolutely would have grilled outside if there wasn't a burn ban. ~ The path to the restrooms wasn't well lit but you're out in nature get a headlamp. ~ One of the showers uses the hooked latch that kept slipping if the door was bumped. There was twine to help hold it in place but please someone get that fixed with a more secure latch.

Weekend Trip to Seco Ridge Campgrounds

This was mine and my husband’s second time visiting the Seco Ridge Campgrounds. This year we stayed in the Bunkhaus. Our best friend and my cousin also joined us for the adventure. The Bunkhaus is nothing short of incredible. It’s more of a tiny home with an awesome patio area with fun lighting, games, and luxury lounging. A HUGE storm came in while we were there and the Haus had no leaks, nothing like that- it is a true experience. The interior is gorgeous with drywall and recess lighting. The bed was incredibly comfy. Owners Woody and Elaine were so very accommodating and kind. They got us fresh firewood and even fresh eggs from the ground’s chickens! In the Haus, there’s a microwave and large mini fridge for snacks and the grounds have a communal fire pit, swings, outdoor kitchen, running water, hot showers and toilets- I have to wear orthodics temporarily which makes it difficult for me to walk and Woody and Elaine set up a chemical toilet right outside the door of the Haus for me. INCREDIBLY accommodating. The Seco Ridge campground itself is the only place I have ever seen the Milky Way with the naked eye. I do astronomy photography and I was able to take some incredible photos. My family and I sang karaoke outside up to quiet hours time at 11, and had an overall BLAST! The Haus is air conditioned, heated, and has just the quaintest and most fun ambiance. It is a pleasure every year and we can’t wait to come back again soon! Weekend Trip to Sparrow Bend River Retreat

We had such a lovely stay! The campsite had everything we needed — cookware, fridge, clean showers and bathrooms, and beautiful views all around. We arrived late at night during a storm, so a small light or sign would’ve made finding our way easier, and a wagon for our gear was not available as mentioned. Not taking any points off though — it’s a great, family and dog-friendly spot, and we can’t wait to come back for a longer stay with our dog next time!

Amazing. That’s what you need to know about The Charmadillo. I’ve stayed in AirBnBs, state parks, RV parks, and primitive camping sites. This really does give you the best of all worlds. If you’re looking for a Texas Hill Country escape, and want to connect with nature, while combatting the TX heat with a/c to sleep in, and a good, clean shower, this is it. The property is fantastic. Perfectly nestled into a hillside, you get great views, space to hike and explore, and a true feeling of being in nature. The common areas are kept immaculately clean, especially with how off grid it feels. The decor and touches of comfort are tasteful and feel organic. Everything feels like it’s there to enhance your experience, not just look good in a picture. Sarah, the host, is a great communicator and seems to really value her guests’ experience. The location is easy to access, and it’s a short drive to Bandera or Kerrville, and a great home base for exploring the Hill Country. I hadn’t touched Hipcamp in years after my previous experience, but Sarah is doing hospitality the right way. *this probably reads like a paid review, or ‘friends & family’, but I assure it’s not. I just really enjoyed this place.

What a great setup! We stayed at Bunkhaus, was super comfortable. Vicinity to Garner state park is perfect for hiking. Brought the whole family, 3 boys and dog and everyone had a good time. Highly recommend and we will be back!

We loved camping on Sarah's land. We're already planning our next trip. The A-fames are great and the AC is necessary especially in the summer. We saw the milky way at night from our porch, we have never seen so many stars!! We made s'mores on the communal fire, and relaxed in the pool after our hike that day. The facilities were wonderfully well stocked and clean. Sarah's personal touch to make things as cozy as possible is evedent everywhere- eucalyptus hanging in the bathroom. Our pup had a great time, he and I explored the property on a morning walk. Again- this is a very Serene property. 10/10 would return for a longer stay. 10/10 would recommend.

The Charmadillo was the absolute perfect hill country getaway. The property was peaceful, beautiful and our cabin was adorable and comfy. The cabin, kitchen, and common spaces were all completely stocked and set up making it easy to cook and relax. The cedar sauna was our favorite amenity. Such a lovely place to recharge. Sarah quickly responded to our questions and gave thorough check in instructions. And her Elizabeth, an on-site staff member was very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be back!!

2nd time out and I still love it, such a nice area and love being able to walk and play in the river with my kiddo. Had my mother in law along with us this time and had a chance to be in the bigger camper. We had some car trouble and were delayed but Ellie was very understanding and so helpful when we arrived, she spent time teaching us what we needed to know about the camper for the most comfortable stay! Thank you Ellie!!!

The family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay on Angela’s land! We stayed in Casa Avecita which was well kept and fully accommodating. There are some nice small town places to eat in the area such as “out of the way cafe” which add to the stay. There are kayaks and tubes available as well as all safety gear for rent which they make easily accessible. I wish I could leave ten stars!!! Thanks again y’all!
