There is a seasonal creek that runs through the back and sort of a swappy pond in the front. The Prairie in the front is some sort of different grass than usual. It might be native buffalo grass or something else weird like that. The property needs a lot of cleanup, so I would make a good to work campers or groups wanting a working party. The stay at Randy and Cheryl‘s hummingbird retreat was fabulous. Had a great reunion with some old friends. Randy and Sheryl were fabulous house. They showed us around the place and told us about all the amenities of which there are many the hot tub the trails the movies, well stocked Cabin exercise room library the animals it was just a really great place to gather we all had a a great time and we’re able to relax and enjoy. Great place to camp with Lynda and Reston being great hosts! We got in very late due to an unseen emergency and Reston still escorted us to our camp site. The grounds were great with so much room to explore. The Haunt was awesome and being able to order breakfast the last day was so much easier for pack up.

Can’t say enough good things about this site and Jeffrey! If you’ve got kids and want them to experience camp life near DFW, this is the place. Fishing, outdoor games, goats, a greenhouse, and s’mores by the fire kept them busy the whole time. There’s WiFi and TV, but the kids didn’t care cause there was too much to do. If you have dogs it’s great to see them running and exploring too. Perfect mix of nature and comfort

I loved my stay on Jeffrey's property! The glamping tent really exceeded our expectations. Not only has Jeffrey thought about every possible amenity for a comfortable and fun stay, he offers wonderful experiences that are enjoyable for both kids and adults. The charcuterie board was beautiful and we loved the assortment of snacks, especially the cheeses. We loved the delicious fresh produce we picked from the greenhouse and made breakfast with it the following morning in the awesome outdoor kitchen. The property is truly beautiful and quiet and situated right next to a pond where we saw beavers, turtles, and birds throughout our stay. We loved being around the friendly goats on the property and recommend the goat milking experience for something different and unique. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the pond and a dark night sky to view some stars in the evening. There was so much room to spread out and so much to do, we wished we could've stayed another night. We hope we can return someday!

So amazing! The location, the tent, the comforts of camping. Everything was thought about at this site. There was a pond, an air conditioned tent, a fire pit, a boat, lots of wildlife and MORE! We had the opportunity to add on a s'mores package, a charcuterie board (hands down better than a restaurant board), goat petting, goat milking, feeding chickens, axe throwing, and picking produce from a fresh garden. Me and my girls had so much fun. I highly recommend visiting this location for fun, relaxation, friendly people and wonderful memories! Thank you!!

We loved our first stay at Lynda’s. Ruston took care of us mainly from picking the best spot that suit us, we had a great time and this is the place if you want to experience the real “Southern Hospitality”. They have bathrooms, showers, even a kitchen, literally everything. It’s a 200 acres land so you won’t have to worry about bumping up with other campers, you can be as private or involved as you wish. We will be back for sure!! Jeff was literally the best he checked on us and brought us fresh fire wood. He even gave our kids some feed to give to the goats. We were able to take our kids on a paddle boat for the first time on the pond that was by our tent. It was super clean and super homie! Loved every minute!

1 night at Glamp like a Champ

I use HipCamp a lot and this place easily went to the top of my list of favorites!! You can’t find many places where your dog can just run around and safely do whatever they want. But then there was also AC and goats and a gorgeous view of the sunset and stars! And literally everything you could need for comfort and convenience. Towels, lanterns, cooking and eating utensils, wifi, etc, etc! My pup and I were both very happy here and we can’t wait to come back and stay for longer!

This trip was so amazing I almost don't want to review it so it can stay out little secret! Lol. The pond is a beautiful view and the land is perfect for letting the pups run their energy out. The hosts thought of every detail you need in order to just show up with your personal items and have an amazing glamping experience. We will absolutely be back.

Weekend Trip to Coppergate Ranch

It’s an ideal woodsy campsite with a picnic bench, clean outhouse as advertised, flat spots for tents and a pond. The frogs were not too loud at night by the pond - just the right amount of nature sounds. We took the row boat out and used the life jackets from the chest by the pond (beware of aggressive wasps in the chest! They keep wasp spray in the porta potty.) It was about a 1/3 mile walk (or bike ride) to the wedding venue to use the nice showers and kitchen. The VERY big and loud but VERY smart and friendly (don’t be scared) family dog guided us along the trail to and from the venue. Highlight for us! Lynda and Ruston were so welcoming and accommodating. We saw that is was supposed to rain by 5am and Ruston offered to move us closer to venue. (But we slept in our van so we could stay at the campsite.) And we got so lucky that we happened to be there for Easter Sunday and we were invited to the family breakfast and egg hunt. Perfect for our 4 year old and so thoughtful. Then we got to meet all the farm animals. Just a magical time!

We were luckily the only ones camping this weekend so they allowed us to camp wherever.☺️ we ended up by the catfish pond and absolutely enjoyed it! Our dogs were having so much fun swimming & we paddled out on the water. Hiking the property was pretty fun too! Their dogs did show up to say hi & even followed us around some of the property :) luckily our dogs are friendly. We loved it :)

Where to go

Southern Lakes

South of Sulphur Springs, RV parks and lakeside camping grounds pepper the vast shores of Lake Fork and Lake Tawakoni. Explore the fishing coves around Lake Fork or set sail to fish for largemouth bass—some of Texas’ largest catches have been hooked here. To the West, Lake Tawakoni State Park has woodland hikes and a sandy swimming beach on the lake’s south shore.

East Dallas

More lakeside camping is on offer along the eastern boundaries of Dallas, with plenty of choice around Lake Lavon and Lake Ray Hubbard. Both lakes are popular boating and fishing spots, but you can also rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, or tee off at a lake-view golf course. If you’re tempted to get closer to the city, Lake Lewisville has seven campgrounds just a short hop from downtown.

Northeast Pineywoods

Sulphur Springs is a strategic basecamp for exploring the Texas Piney Woods, where traditional Southern towns meet rambling woodlands and gleaming lakes. Dive into Civil War history in Jefferson, then head out to camp by Lake Caddo. Or continue south to enjoy backcountry camping in the Davy Crockett, Angelina, and Sabine National Forests.

When to go

May through September is the most popular time to visit Sulphur Springs, when the town hosts several festivals, markets, and an open-air movie theater in its central square. Texan summers are hot, so RV camping might be a more comfortable option, but you can always escape to the nearby lakes to cool off. Camping is possible year-round in Cooper Lake State Park, but spring and fall provide the most pleasant weather for hiking and outdoor activities.

Know before you go

You’ll need your own transportation to get around Sulphur Springs.
Sulphur Springs has a wide range of shops where you can purchase groceries, camping gear, and fishing supplies. Pick up everything you need in town before heading out to Cooper Lake State Park.
Most Texas state parks and national forests require reservations for both day passes and campgrounds. Fishing permits are also often required.
