We're a five acre piece of an historic Texas ranch in Southwest San Antonio, just 20-minutes from downtown, sitting along the Medina River. Come for the day or stay the night for some primitive camping. We've got plenty of room for tents, roof-top-tent setups or car/van dry-camping.
We’re currently in the building/restoring process, but we’ll have some electrical, drinking water, fire pits, plenty of shade, compost toilets, water in the river, and plenty of good vibes.
Old Herrera Ranch has been in our family since the early 1800's and holds a lot history. A couple of our old buildings, the "jacals", are dated from around the 1830-40's. You'll also see the old "Dance Hall" which is great for hanging out or even some cover if it rains. They say that Santa Anna's army, invading from Mexico, may have crossed through our area on their way to the Alamo. This may be because our part of the river includes some of the more shallow areas of the Medina River. under a peaceful canopy of large beautiful trees. Don't be surprised if you run into deer, squirrels, or roadrunners! Our property is home to a wide variety of hill-country wildlife.

We have so many trees! All of our sites are hammock-friendly.
- When you check-in, just text us, your host will help you find your campsite.
- Some sites are drive-in where your vehicle can park right next to the fire. Others are walk-in and require a short hike of 100' or less from your parking space. You can indicate your preference during booking or at check-in.
If you want to drive right into your site,
Campsites 2, 3, 6, and 12 are the sites you want.
Some of our campsites are more secluded than others and offer extreme privacy in the most beautiful settings we have to offer. If you're looking for a wilder campsite surrounded by huge old trees and all the peace the woods have to offer, just request Campsites 4, 5, 7, or 8. Each of these sites requires a walk of at least 50' from your vehicle to the fire ring.
Site 13 is only for backpackers or people willing to hike about 500 yards to the campsite over rough terrain. There is no way to drive to it or even get close except on foot. But it is spectacular and beautiful!
Only three sites can accommodate a smaller trailer or camper. Site 1, Site 2, and site 6. Please notify me in your booking if you intend to bring a camper and I can accommodate you.
We practice leave-no-trace as much as possible. So please pack out anything you pack in. You are responsible for removing all trash. If any garbage is left behind in your site you will be billed for the cleanup. We have a dumpster located near the front gate. Please use it and put all your trash in there.
Heads-up! We have a small farm on the property.
Dogs are always welcome and we LOVE our furry friends! For their safety and the safety of our livestock please keep them leashed while on property.

Heavily wooded acreage with goats, horses and donkeys. There is no light pollution and if there are no clouds you can see the stars very clearly. We have a ton of wild birds. Owls and Cara Cara are common. There are deer, feral hog and two resident packs of coyote. We also have ring tail cats, which are nocturnal and rare.
The best seasons are October 1st thru the end of April. It gets VERY hot and dry in the summer and can just be miserable.
We have a shared bathroom and an outdoor shower and tub. If you are a single woman or a family with children, we don't take other bookings while you are visiting the farm. You will have the place to yourselves. The only exception being my family and I, if we are working or staying over at the farm.
We should have a second bunkhouse up and running by fall of 2025.
If you are tent camping, you may camp anywhere on the property but there are certain spaces that may make curious horses your roomies.

This property has been in our family since the 1960's, and owned by close friends of the family since the house was built in 1910. Close access to San Marcos, Lockhart, and Luling. Public river access is just down the road.
Just 8 miles away located in the heart of Texas’s barbecue capital, Lockhart State Park is an intimate, area with lush trees and trails along the Clear Fork Creek. . These are unique camping spots along the Guadalupe River. I didn’t exactly understand how unique until I started getting feedback from my campers.
The surrounding scenery will lower your blood pressure and do wonders to let you reconnect with nature. Sit back and close your eyes late in the evening and listen to all the wildlife talking to each other. There is faint traffic noise from 90A about a 1/3 of a mile away but it calms down after 7 or so.
Currently no amenities but I am in the plans for some portable bathrooms. Please be prepared to cover all your bathroom and cooking needs. I do have some good clean well water from a faucet on the way into the campgrounds.
Campfires are permitted.
There is a convenience store (Diamond A) with clean bathrooms and a great bbq just 5 miles to the west on 90A and a Walmart and HEB 10 miles to the east on 90A. (Both Diamond A and Walmart sell fishing licenses if you need one.
Dogs are allowed at sites 3 and 4 but not at 1 or 2 where my livestock guardian dogs have access to. No matter the size or temperament of your pets you are always expected to have them under your control at ALL times. I have very small livestock in the area frequently

From the initial message once our booking was confirmed. Laura was very friendly and informative. Finding the place was easy. Meeting Laura and giving us a tour of the land was a great way to start our stay. Short walk from our car to the campsite. Definitely plenty of amenities to take advantage of that are provided. If you are looking for a place to enjoy the outdoors this is definitely the Dam Spot. We went for a night. We ened up booking another night to fully enjoy!

I grew up camping in the raw woods in Oregon and haven’t been able to find anything close since coming to Texas. We stayed in site 8 which was extremely secluded. It’s literally just the woods, no toilets, no loud neighboring campers…just you and nature. Sometimes we could hear the road in the distance but I’d much rather that over other people camping 20 feet apart like most campgrounds. While we didn’t see anything, there were signs of wildlife like fox hair and wild boar digging around. We did get to see some fireflies!! We also met the wife and son and they were very helpful and kind. I would definitely come back here again!

I stayed in the site furthest out. It was peaceful and just what I needed. Beautiful night sky and the composting toilet was a short walk. Dorothy was a great communicator. Her place was a short drive to Gruene, Wimberley, and New Braunfels.

This is my second time staying here and this time I brought my family along with me to share the awesome adventure because this place is just perfect. It’s right in the city outskirts so not too far away, but just secluded enough to not have to be confronted with the hustle and bustle of San Antonio traffic but just far away so as you don’t have to hear any nonsense and can float in this oasis of a watering hole till you’re pruning enough for your skin to fall off. I highly recommend you bring your family out here and enjoy one of their beautiful campsite and or other amenities Miss Michel and Mr. Luke are beyond. Generous and kind.

Laura (the owner) is incredible.
We have a 9 year old and 5 year old and they played in the river from sun up until sun down! Sunset views, the rushing waterfall of the dam, fire flies, s’mores, bistro lights, etc!
It’s a must do!
I want to add that I made a mistake in booking and Laura was extremely understanding and accommodating. It could have been a disaster for my family and she worked with us so we could have a memorable time with our family and friends.

So happy we chose to spend the day here for a birthday celebration. This place is everything and more! We fished, paddle boarded, swam, played games and enjoyed the beautiful nature that surrounds this property. We were lucky enough to have just one other set of campers nearby but far enough that you really feel like you have the place to yourself. Even if all four sites were booked they are spread apart perfectly. Will most definitely be back with our family to enjoy another day and possibly night! The Robins Nest is a really special place, a true hidden gem. My wife and I just stayed here for Memorial Day weekend and it was so peaceful. We spent two nights here and enjoyed soaking in the cowboy tub with the camp firing going and making smores. There’s nobody for miles and you get true privacy in the most beautiful treehouse. Shellie is so accommodating and really made our stay! A host like this is rare, you can tell she pours love into this treehouse with each little detail. My wife and I will definitely be back with our pup, I think he enjoyed it even more than we did, which is very hard to do ;)

Great communication and brief tour of property. Very private, lots of area to make camp, and it was nice to choose from different areas of the property. Make sure to bring some bug spray! Also with the recent rains, we definitely needed my truck’s 4wd and high ground clearance to access. Would stay again!
