Our family started vacationing in Tennessee years ago. From the very first time we stayed in mountains we knew we had to make it our home. After years of dreaming we took a huge leap of faith and sold our house in Illinois, packed up everything we owned into a moving truck, and headed south. No jobs, no plans, and everything we knew in the rearview mirror. We landed in Knoxville for a bit while we figured out where we were going to work because paying bills is a necessary evil and started house hunting. We stumbled across this property totally on accident. Turns out it was exactly what we were looking for! My husband dreamed of living in a cabin and I dreamed of hosting guests. Here we have the best of both worlds!
We are travelers ourselves and have stayed in so many unique placed all over the country. We really enjoyed our time at Camp David! The Cumberland Plateau is a beautiful place and this property is a great home base for exploring—or just staying put and relaxing. It had all the amenities we needed to be comfortable while still "roughing it." It wasn't quite as private as we'd expected based on photos, but we enjoyed getting to know the hospitable hosts and really enjoyed our stay. Definitely recommend!

I really liked the layout of the campsite area. The outhouse was really nice, and the little lights near the fire pit pavilion were a nice touch. The Perch itself was clean and well stocked with things such as camp stove, dishes, etc.

Weekend Trip to Camp David on Cumberland Plateau
We highly recommend staying here! Our original trip fell through so we booked this place at the very last second and Shannon was very accommodating. We stayed 2 nights. The tiny home was a perfect size for me, my husband, and our dog. There’d be room for probably 3 more people too if you wanted. It was our anniversary weekend so we wanted to go somewhere secluded so we didn’t have to deal with anyone else and so our dog could run around off leash and that is exactly what we got. It was very quiet, all you could hear was the creek running and the birds chirping. Our weekend was kind of rainy but the spacious covered back porch still made it an enjoyable weekend. We’ll be back for sure.
Side note if you love nature, we heard whip-poor-wills at night and saw turkeys in the morning.
