We had a great time at Hawk's Nest. It was so peaceful and private. We packed a lot of our camping gear, just in case, but barely need to take anything out of the car. Our dogs loved running around and exploring. The bedroom was comfortable and we stayed warm even though the nights were chilly. The location is perfect for hiking. We were able to make it to both Burgess Falls and Rock Island. We hope to make it back and stay longer next time.

Hawk's Nest
We enjoyed our stay at Hawk's Nest. Dan and Jo were super to visit with and very accomodating. It was a pleasure to be on their beautiful farm and feel so warmly welcomed. The wild life around the property is amazing. We saw possums, a marching procession of armadillos, the friendly dog Martin, racoons, and heard so many owls at night. I recommend it for a camp get away that will get you super close to Cane Hollow Rec area where you can access the lake and kayak up to the base of Burgess Falls.

Red Mule Lodge
My wife and I loved our stay. Dan and Jo have truly made a special place, and we hope many others get to experience the peace we found there. Even our dog had a blast, as it is very pet friendly, with a fenced in yard, and wide open spaces for her to play and explore. We especially loved sitting on the screen in front porch for our morning coffee and evening reading. The only thing we would change is the length of our stay. Far too short! Thanks again, Dan and Jo, for having us!!!

Dan and Jo's place was a magical delight! The cottage was cozy and had a HUGE fenced yard for our doggies too play in. But they were also allowed to roam free with the other friendly doggies on the farm. Dan invited us to join campfires (which we didn't get to do because of plans) and we listened to beautiful string instrument jams with his friends on Saturday. They were super welcoming and so were the other folks living in nearby cottages. It was the perfect amount of private, with interaction of you'd like it. He told us about a path to take to a magical rock wall and creek, with wild mushrooms growing along the way. Everything was amazing! Warning for ppl that aren't as hippie as us... The kitchen stove and fridge is outside (but there's a sink, microwave, and coffee inside.) can't wait to visit again once day!!

The Red Mule lodge is stocked with everything you even think you might need. Even to coffee for the coffee maker. While the inside is small the screened in porch is very spacious with two tables, rocking chairs and a recliner. You will want to spend most of your time on the porch because of the view. Dan is a great host; there was a small problem the first night but as soon as I spoke with him about it it was taken care of. From the hospitality of Dan, the peaceable views and the price there is no other place to consider.

This is such a cute cabin and the owners are so kind. Very great place to stay. I do want to say this is a farm and farm animals are heard inside cabin so if you sleep light you will be woken up very early. The horse is not friendly and if it is not tied up please make sure you keep safe it did hurt my sister and chased us out of the area was very scary. This place is great if your ok with noise and get togethers if your looking for quiet I would probably not rent here. All in all great place cabin was super cute has window looking out to the trees that was amazing and made the cabin so much more. There is a shower, running toilet, cute outdoor kitchen and the patio is amazing. I would give 4 stars only due to the horse attacking us.

Hidden gym in the Tennessee country side. Close proximity to Virgin Falls hike. Privacy and great sounds of nature galore. The land has been in the owners family for many years. Suitable for truck camping or roof top tents. Lots of space and options for your set up.

We actually stayed @ the garden house also listed on this property because this one wasn’t available and I’m glad we did! It was beautiful and had everything one could need in terms of cooking/sleeping/showering. We loved the fire pit, the views and their dog, Martin. Dan and Jo were very welcoming and respectful. The garden house is very private, yet still a part of the ‘commune.’ We will definitely be back. Thank you!

Such a beautiful location for a retreat! Hawks Nest is a little slice of heaven. Dan and Jo have thought of everything! We loved the cozy atmosphere and especially the dogs that guarded us the entire weekend 🥰 10/10 recommend, and we will definitely be coming back!

Absolute perfection!!!! Dan is a top notch, super nice host. He was very welcoming, helpful and friendly! He was nice enough to invite me to listen to music with them, but also understood that I was there for alone time and graciously allowed that. The place is a dream! It’s literally everything I had hoped and more! Perfectly private and serene. They provide everything you could possibly need. The bed was comfortable and the tiny overhead fan was awesome! I was shocked at how well it worked! My dog absolutely loved it, too! We live in a neighborhood, so getting to run free in the creek and the woods was awesome for him! I have a personal rule to never visit the same place twice. This will be the exception!

Staying at the Hawk's Nest was so much fun! The kids had a blast, especially in the creek, and watching the little horses in the pasture. This was a great family adventure!

We had a lovely stay at the Hawk’s Nest! It was an adorable space and was very peaceful & relaxing. We loved getting to star gaze, watch the sunset & listen to the babbling creek and crickets at night. The campsite came with everything we needed to make pancakes in the morning & we even had one of the farm dogs Martin join us for breakfast. We would definitely love to come back!

This is a beautiful tiny-house cabin that sure beats camping. We loved the property and playing with the dogs too. My only suggestion is that the windows need to be fixed so that it can get fresh air.

This was such an awesome retreat. We loved all the special touches put into the place. We had everything we needed and more. We greatly appreciated the firewood and cooking supplies that was available. Martin, the the farm pup, was a really fun addition making sure we were settled in that first night and making occasional visits during our stay. We enjoyed the coyote songs at night and views of the mini horses during the day. The peppermint tea Jo recommended was great. We had a really relaxing time and are already planning our next trip back!

I came up to Sparta, Tennessee to heal my lungs from the Red Tide. I definitely healed up well at Dan’s cabin in Sparta!! I loved writing music on my cabin porch looking at beautiful green hills with mini ponies roaming around!! The trails on the property were awesome! And at night i loved picking on the guitar with Dan and his family! They were so kind and real genuine people! I highly recommend this hip camp, he has multiple cabins, all unique and special! Plus its close to so many amazing state parks, waterfalls, and swimming holes!!!

We loved staying at Hawk’s Nest. The little creek flowing below the cabin, the woods, the sweet horses, the singing of the coyotes at night: PURE MAGIC.

This place is very peaceful and in a great location. I was able to get to Burgess falls and rock island very easily. The hosts have a list of all local places which rocked because I had minimal service. The hosts were very nice and the property was adorable. They have friendly horses and friendly dogs that will come and hang with you during your stay. There are a few things that are different then the pictures and some things that are not mentioned. There is no speaker in the bedroom for music. There is no countertop propane grill. There is a shower added next to the bathroom but I doubt you could use it as a shower it barely runs but was perfect for rinsing off after long hikes! There are only candles and small hanging lights so I recommend bringing a lantern and a flashlight as it is dark walking to the bathroom at night 😆 some cool stuff not mentioned is that it has solar so there are USB ports to charge your phones! There is a ceiling fan in the bedroom and it rocks. There is free firewood on the property! There are pots and pans so you can cook using a propane stove top next to the fire pit! They even have marshmallow forks so you can roast marshmallows!
They have three dogs and Bonnie was my favorite. I do everything solo which gets lonely so it was nice to have a loyal doggy hanging with me. She was precious. They have a boy dog (I can't remember his name) and he will rearrange your shoes, well anything, he is very puppy like 🤣 he will also flip the trash so be aware 😆 overall I highly recommend checking this place out, it was a great time and a great glamping experience.

The Hawk’s Nest was a perfect place of healing for me and my husband after a recent family loss. While quiet and private, it also gave us the opportunity to sit with our hosts and other guests for some music in the evening for as long as the mood suited. The screened-in porch bedroom included plenty of blankets to keep us cosy and we enjoyed percolator coffee over a gas fire in the morning. Lots of mooing cows and love and protection from our hosts’ extremely smart dogs. It was just what we needed.
