The campground is an easy distance to Downtown Knoxville and an even easier access to all that South Knox's Urban Wilderness has to offer. It uniquely offers a hint of backcountry camping without the 25-mile hike in. It is a great way to test the waters for primitive camping or an easy stop close to the city for a seasoned traveler. Most sites have trees suitable for hammock camping all along the creek. There is potable water, firewood for sale, solar showers, and a bike wash stand all next to the covered communal area. Each standard site can accommodate 2 people to keep space between groups and lessen the impact on the land. Sites 10 and 13 can each accommodate 6 guests. If you have more in your group, we recommend reserving an adjoining campsite. Sites 1, 2 and 3 are off the main path to the left of the property, and still by the creek. Sites 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are all along the creek and gravel drive Site 10 is very private with creek access on three sides. Site 11 is private with creek access all along the front. Access the Starr Mountain Camp entrance off Mecca Pike, just west of Daugherty Springs Rd across from Shady Grove Church and Cemetery and one-way pull through exit onto Daughtery Springs Rd at the end of your stay. Site 1 is situated on the top level layout and ideal for larger campers and trailers. Site 2 and 3 are situated on the middle level layout and ideal for mid-sized campers and trailers. Site 4, 5, and 6 are situated on the lower level layout and ideal for mid-sized and smaller-sized campers and trailers. There is no community bathhouse. All ages are welcome. Pets on leash are welcome. Check in time is 11 AM and Check out time is 4 PM but ask the host if you need accommodations on check in or check out timing. Quiet period between 10 PM and 7 AM and peace and rest for all is a priority at our mini camp. Host family asks that you keep the property in the same state that you found it, so please pick up your trash and animal droppings. Please do not chop down any trees or branches or affix anything foreign to them and do not leave any items in the creek. There are no fish in the property creek but Tellico River is ideal and just a short drive away. Vehicle parking is located just off Site 1 on the Mecca Pike side so you can enjoy an unobstructed view mountain view. One vehicle is recommended but ask host for accommodations if a second vehicle is needed. About your Host: Starr Mountain Camp is family operated and lives on the property. We updated the outdoor kitchen with a 3 burner propane stove, propane grill and hot running water with a 3 bay sink. Other cooking options include a tripod over the fire and a charcoal grill. A short 10-minute drive to fire tower rd. brings you to a 2 mile loop trail with 2 waterfalls, Upper and Lower Piney Falls. Ozone falls is just a 20 minute drive. Then toward Spring City is Stinging Fork Falls at 25 minutes. Black mountain is my new favorite place especially the south overlook! The Hiking possibilities are nearly endless and close. I'll highlight one thru hike here since both trailheads are only 20 minutes away and is easy to coordinate with only 2 vehicles. It's a 10.2 mile hike that can be done in either direction and has a little something for everyone including a cave, boulder field, cascade and waterfall. Then you have massive Watts Bar Lake which is only 20 minutes away with a plethora of activities including the excursions we offer! We look forward to hosting you!

We spent a few nights at the campsite while we explored the OHV trails and downhill mountain bike course at Windrock. The thought of tent camping in one of the huge gravel parking lots surrounded by throngs of people and the rattle of RV generators at one of the large campgrounds in the area held no appeal. This spot was peaceful and quiet, just what we were looking for. Extra bonus points for the burbling creek, the amazing assortment of birds that flew around us in the mornings, and quick and easy access to the trails. No conveniences at the site but $3.00 will buy you a shower at the Windrock Campground, and possibly other campgrounds around.

This spot was exactly the breath of fresh air I needed. The sites were beautifully maintained, the views were stunning, and the hosts were wonderfully communicative. I ended up extending my stay—twice! I even caught the northern lights during the solar flares, which made the whole experience feel magical. Sitting beside the creek was the perfect way to slow down and enjoy the day—it added a gentle rhythm to the whole trip. The location is peaceful yet close enough to town to be convenient. Highly recommend.

The location is convienent, well kept and pretty private. The port-o-john was immaculate!! Seriously, the creek was lovely, the site (#10) was perfect for us but I was most impressed with the port-a-potty. Someone takes really good care to keep it clean which is most appreciated for those of us who don't have bathrooms in our campers.

Our camping trip here was amazing from start to finish. The scenery was stunning — wide-open views, gorgeous stars at night, and the kind of peaceful atmosphere you can’t find just anywhere. Andrew made the experience even better. He was kind, welcoming, and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Overall, it was the perfect mix of nature, relaxation, and great hospitality. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable getaway! We will be back soon!

We had an excellent time camping at Lil Snowbird Farm. The campsites were exceptionally clean and well kept. We stayed in site #6 along the river and it was just beautiful and felt very private! We enjoyed cooking over the campfire and eating at the picnic table. The host was amazing and ensured we had everything we needed. The camp toilets had their own small tent for privacy and even had small solar lights to help you find them in the dark. 10/10 would recommend camping here!

Build a camper out of a 1991 GMC box truck had to give it a shake down test of all systems and failures. Spent 26 days at this campground it's very nice and private, stayed @ # 2 site plenty of open space. The owners are great and very caring, also it's about 2 miles down the road for shopping with every restaurant chain and amenities I was completely blown away. Making upgrades and will return for another month of shake down testing, this vehicle is completely off grid it's being debug at this campground before bringing it to my mountain property with same condition. Site # 10 is beautiful and private.

3 nights at Lil Snowbird Farm Primitive Camping

I ended up solo camping, although that wasnt the plan when I first booked. So of course, I was actually pretty nervous to drive 3.5 hours away from home alone and solo camp, but I did and I have zero regrets. I wouldn't choose a different spot for my first solo trip. Did everything go as planned? No. Did the site make up for it? Absolutely! The site is absolutely beautiful; see the photos I will be uploading. I felt so secluded, yet so safe the whole trip. The host, Andrew, is the coolest guy and easy to have a conversation with. He takes good care of these camping sites. FYI: There is ZERO cell phone coverage - so keep that in mind. I was glad to take a step back from my personal and work phone to be completely in the moment. Overall, I was super happy and proud of my camping spot. I will definitely be back this season. Hopefully I will be getting a 4x4 soon so I can check out the mountain spots!!

This was a great place for our one night camping trip. I like that this place isn’t just concrete pads and feels more like you are camping out in the woods or meadow! I brought my fly rod and actually caught a few little fish I was so surprised! We would definitely go back and stay again!

Sort of a tight park, but the price is right and there are lots of amenities. The site we had (113) was in a low spot but we were able to level up in our motorhome Tiffin Allegro Open Road TGA (35ft long) with no problems.

Andrew was so kind and hospitable! The campsite was clean, quiet, and serene. The river made for the perfect white noise at night. Make sure to have 4-wheel drive, as the site is down a very long dirt road. You won't have service once you are on the road, but that's one of the best parts of camping. One of our favorite HIPCAMP experiences to date!
