So, we are incorporating both alternative and municipal utilities as they can fit into our homestead design and limited budget. Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" small living can feel. We all have personal priorities and those will vary greatly, and that's okay. But no person should be so self-absorbed that we have completely shut out the importance of being respectfully mindful to the earth and to our fellowman. After all, if we don't have that, what do we have? To be completely transparent, though, the creatives in us also would like it if we inspired onlookers to possibly look at their own space and life a little bit differently. We've personally found it to be so fulfilling to distinguish real desires and needs from the ones we've been groomed to pursue, and then work to make them a reality. We've found it energizing to witness our fellowmen and women pursuing a dream. We'd like to be a stimulating memory along any person's journey. Visiting with us, we sure hope our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to life here, and that they can appreciate some of our old-fashioned ways. I really enjoyed staying at Dustin’s way more than at a noisy State Park. It was so peaceful there near the river. I saw many shooting stars. His bathroom was very clean.

Spending the night in our small RV at Dustin’s Edisto River RV resort was way beyond our expectations. There are only two sites on the property so privacy and seclusion are excellent. The restrooms facilities are VERY nice and are shared between the two sites. It was very cold during our stay (21 F) so we didn’t get a chance to enjoy the screened in cabana with sofa and tv during our stay but did get to enjoy cozying up to the fire pit in the Adirondack chairs. Can’t say enough good things, will be returning soon for a longer stay and use the kayaks to paddle on the Edisto. Our beagle loved the trail down to the river.

We made an impromptu stop on our way south and really lucked out- found a very comfortable spot. Pull through site, flat area with electricity! It was raining, so we didn’t want to unhook.. it worked out perfectly for us. The host Will was super helpful and responsive- I would definitely stay again!

We had a wonderful stay on James’s property. James was a great host. Met us upon arrival and made sure we had what we needed. Since we didn’t need hookups, he let us choose our own spot, which made the experience even better as we were able to camp closer to the water. The land is beautiful, wooded and surrounded by water and a pond on site. It’s a really unique setting: you feel completely tucked away in the woods, yet the moment you leave the property you’re in a neighborhood and only a short drive from downtown and all the essentials. We’d absolutely recommend this spot, especially for anyone who enjoys boondocking!

Loved how close this place was to literally everything! This spot is close to the plantations, 25 minutes to City Market, and 30 to Folly Beach. We camped here over Thanksgiving weekend and had dinner with family in Summerville. Thanks to this spot’s prime location, we were able to turn the weekend into a mini vacation!! The spot was clean and level. All amenities worked well. The fire pit, chairs, and table are all clean, sturdy, and cozy. Neighbors were all quiet and respectful. We saw ducks, geese, squirrels, and an adorable raccoon. Of note: This is in a residential neighborhood. It would be tight for someone with a larger RV/there are some low hanging trees depending on the direction you come/go. There is also some road noise/nighttime outdoor lights. These things are obviously to be expected and are not negatives - just mentioning for awareness of future campers.

The campsite was lovely. The quarter-mile dirt road was pretty bumpy, and I wouldn’t want to take it on a rainy weekend, but once we arrived, it was worth it. It was very primitive, yet still enjoyable. We had a great time. We camped by a river. The grand oaks draped in Spanish moss were absolutely beautiful.

Will’s RV spots are spacious and easy to negotiate. They sit back from the road, so are peaceful. We had bright stars among the pine trees while we were there. Would highly recommend!

We wished we got there a bit earlier to explore more. This is Lia I am 9 years old it was the first time I experienced a compost toilet and I thought it was good for the environment it was a bit challenging to use at first but when you get used to it it’s awesome. In the morning I got to spilt wood in half with a hatchet ! Kurt our host was super nice, very knowledgeable and did an amazing job at building his homestead. my seven-year-old brother did not want to get out of the outdoor shower because it was amazingly hot. We had an outstanding experience.

Weekend Trip to Friendly Fowl Farm

My family stayed two nights at the magnolia site. The site was clean and tent safe, we didn't need a tarp to protect the bottom from small brush or rocks. There was a nice camping toilet that was clean and right on site. Only interacted with host to buy eggs for breakfast but that was our choice, the host was friendly and I'm sure wouldn't mind more interaction if a camper needed it. Love the fact that they are a small farm providing non commercial goods to their community. We felt safe and secure in this site. Remember that this is a working farm and there will be farm noises. Thank you for hosting us.

Weekend Trip to Hanscombe Point Plantation

The location on Google maps is accurate, but to find the last stretch you have to offroad a bit. RAV4s can get in all day, but I'd be worried about sportier sedans. The 5 sites are pretty much next to each other in a forested area. Has an outhouse (vault toilet) and a porta potty. They also have firewood for sale on site which is nice. Overall pretty bare-bones for a campsite but gets the job done and location is great!

We had the most amazing time at this beautiful property! From the moment we arrived, our host went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome and taken care of. Their friendliness and genuine hospitality truly set this place apart. The land itself is stunning—peaceful, spacious, and perfectly maintained. Our dogs were in heaven! They had all the freedom they needed to run, explore, and get plenty of exercise, which made the trip even more enjoyable for us. This stay genuinely made our vacation unforgettable. Excellent host and very nice campground. The pull through site is very accommodating with full hookups and the route to the site is big rig friendly. The host, Will, is accommodating and very friendly. I would absolutely recommend this site and if we travel through south carolina again, we will definitely be staying here!
