Easy for large rig to navigate Gorgeous view It was our first trip in our new Schoolie rig, and we had some epic travel aggravations along the way. This Hipcamp site was the one bright spot in all that. 😆 I’d like to visit again when we can use it for a base camp for hiking or kayaking. This time it’s just been us regrouping to get on the road again

We had an incredible time staying at Barnhill Mountain top campsite! The views were absolutely breathtaking, and the peaceful surroundings made for a perfect getaway. Edwin was a fantastic host—welcoming, helpful, and ensuring we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The site was well-maintained, and we loved watching the sunrise and sunset from such a beautiful spot. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a serene and scenic escape. Thanks again, Edwin! We’ll definitely be back.

Great place! Would recommend this place to anyone with dogs. Mine went in and out of the river all weekend, not worried about other people or them wandering too far. He was kind and helped find local hikes, brought fresh apples and cabbage. Will be back 100%

This place was awesome! Nice and private little spot on a big pond that offered a relaxing vibe. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here with me, my friend, and my dog. If you're a more prepared camper than I, bring some sort of shade canopy as the main camping area doesn't have much shading at all when the sun is highest and hottest (I also forgot my sunscreen lol). Neil was an excellent host and communicated well how to get there and what to expect and I definitely recommend Lakeside Retreat if you're looking for a weekend away to just chill and maybe do a little fishing! 😎

3 nights at Mountaintop Fantasy

Peter was a very attentive host, checking in on us and answering questions about how to handle things on the site quickly. This is a relatively simple cabin with a moderate sized sleeping area with some mild sitting space, not insulated but heated and generally comfortable. There is then a covered dining and kitchen area with camp type facilities. A microwave but then a couple of propane-fueled cooking options. A picnic table and one swing. On the other side is a water closet which takes a little work to keep going but does have a flushing toilet and a somewhat manageable shower. There are several places to wander outside with swings and other exposed picnic tables, including the treehouse like perch on the other side of the property. The views are not spectacular but are quite nice. It is not too far from some nice day trips in the Franklin to Highlands area. My daughter and I found it a nice spot to get away in the mountains for a few days. It's not cheap but reasonably priced given the apparent comparatives with maybe more glam in the cabin but less of a view and feeling of getting away. We were happy to travel to Peter's spot.

Great Location and close to highway. Easy set-up with electric. Pretty view of woods. Some nearby neighbors are visable but not an issue. We would book again.

Quiet and relaxin. Check in was very easy as June and the dogs came out to greet us and tell us where to go.

I loved camping so close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The campsite is well situated between the Parkway and Brevard. The site was very quiet and peaceful with the sound of the river right next to our site. We stayed at site 6. Tom, our host, was very kind and knowledgeable about the area. He gave us great local information about great places to see!

2 nights at Chattooga Belle Farm Lakeside

This is one of my favorite spots to camp. The farm and Orchards are beautiful, the distillery is fascinating and friendly, and it is an amazing base camp for multiple waterfall hikes in the area.

Beautiful spot! We have three young children and two dogs and this spot was perfect! Hosts were very accommodating.

The lake at Neil's retreat is gorgeous! Very peaceful and private spot to relax and enjoy nature. My dog enjoyed the freedom to roam around and nap where he pleased. Awesome spot for star gazing, too :) Thanks for sharing this magical place Neil!

Great spot right on the river! We had a great time at At the Ridge Camp- Riverside Escapes. We are a family of 5 & stayed in cabin #2. It is a rustic camping cabin but was clean, spacious enough for all of us to sleep comfortably & had electricity. The showers were HOT & Tom made sure we had everything needed. They are still rebuilding from Helene but are definitely up & ready for campers! We will definitely be back.

It’s no surprise this place has so many good reviews, it truly is a hidden treasure. 💗 It’s clean, private, and the mountain views are spectacular. Last night I had a fantastic view of the blood moon eclipse, and saw shooting stars as well. 😀 It’s also the only campsite with an outhouse that isn’t scary. It’s set up so the outhouse is removed slightly downhill off a path, and there is no odor and it’s well kept. I also love that there is a small shelter, and an elevated area with a fire pit. This is an ideal campsite for people who want some privacy. I definitely recommend this place. 💕

Unlike hotels, at Cast-A-Way Cabins, we provide 3 lockable boat shelters equipped with power for charging batteries, lighting and water. Broyle’s Landing is only 1/4 mile away, Portman Marina is just 2.9 miles away & Green Pond Landing is only 5.2 miles away. If you're a Clemson Tigers fan, Clemson, SC is only 15 miles away! This cabin has a full refrigerator, sink, microwave, coffee pot, full size sofa, YouTubeTV, WIFI, 1 full bed with twin bunk, full bath. A covered outdoor patio/complete kitchen includes TV, 2 picnic tables, Blackstone and Pit Boss grills, commercial size sink, fire pit, corn hole game and Tiki Toss.. WINTER BOOKINGS: Our driveway may be impassible during winter weather and we recommend snow tires, snow chains, and/or 4x4 during the winter months due to ice. We do shut down the running water during the winter to prevent the pipes from freezing. We will provide guests with 5 gallon drinking jugs with a dispenser to use, and the toilet still has water to flush. But the shower, sink, tub, hose, and bidet will be shut down during these months. If you want the true off-grid experience this is it ;) We do require guests to e-sign our rental agreement that we will email to you, and request a $300 security deposit hold (not a charge) that we will release upon checkout. This is just a precaution for us letting people we don't know stay at our place and respecting it.

Living in Boone, this dream was definitely out of reach. When we began our search for a new home in the Asheville area, we discovered that the more affordable homes were in fact on the mountains. Perfect! In general I always have a pretty positive outlook on what’s possible, however, I was skeptical that we would ever find our dream home. As Jeannie began her Zillow browsing adventures, one particular cabin with acreage, that was outside of our budget continued to pop up. Jeannie would delete it and then it would come back. At some point the price began to drop, and drop, and drop. On our way back into town one weekend after attending a wedding, I convinced Jeannie to drive by the cabin just because we had the time. Immediately we fell in love and reached out to our realtor buddy. It was more of a shot in the dark but it couldn’t hurt, right? We held our breath for the next month totally expecting someone to get it under contract before us or the sellers not accepting our offer. It had already been reduced significantly so we knew our chances of a lowball offer were slim. We offered the most that we could get a loan for. They accepted! I still get anxious thinking back to that month, October 2014. Many years and two children later, here we are, just as excited everyday to make the long trek up our mountain as we were that August of 2014, and now we are happy to offer a similar experience to you, without having to buy the place. Primitive tent camping at our one-acre waterfront property on Lake Hartwell. The gravel/dirt driveway leads down to a waterside landing with gangway access into the water (no full dock attached). There is space down by the water for at least one tent to sit on flat ground. There is plenty of space for more tents there, too, but the rest of this area has a slight incline. Feel free to pitch your tent anywhere on the property. Our property has no services. There is no electric, no water, no toilet, no shower, no trash facilities. Everything you bring with you must be brought out with you as well. Bring kayaks to launch from the gangway, or just bring yourself and take a swim. The Jenkins Ferry Boat Ramp is a 5 minute drive (2.6 miles) down the road. Feel free to put your boat in the water and park it at the site. Just know that there is not a dock attached to the gangway. The driveway is an unmaintained dirt and gravel path. It is about 0.2 miles from the road down to the water. There is a turn-around spot about halfway down the where you can park and walk the rest of the way to the waterfront site. We recommend 4 wheel drive if rain is in the forecast. In some areas, the incline is quite steep.
