Towner's Country Paradise started out as a wild forest and pasture for cows in the 1940's, owned by Llewellyn Towner. In the 1960s, Llewellyn's love for aviation led him to construct a small airstrip and hangar, and then his son Terry began to plant Christmas Trees (no more cows) and clear much of the land. This is a beautiful piece of property located in the heart of the Finger Lakes and Wine Country of NY. It features a stunning spring fed waterfall and nice forest land. Very close to town but also very secluded and private. Great place to unwind and relax from our everyday lives. It is situated however in a gully next to a creek and waterfall so it is susceptible to heavy rains. It is recommended to at least have an AWD vehicle if rainy. I can usually help campers with getting to the site in my side X side if you need to park up at the pasture. Please order enough wood initially as I have found I spend a lot of time delivering extra wood to campers. It seems as if you will typically go through 2 bundles per night on average. Also I supply a contractor size garbage bag to you if you choose garbage removal. It is also a good idea to text me when you have a solid ETA so I can be here to take you to the site. I want to mention that the two sites closest to the waterfall are a slight hike in and can only accommodate up to 4 person tents so if a bigger group or vehicle camping you will be placed at another site. There are beautiful large maple, cherry, pine, and butternut trees, as well as young growth and wildflowers and diverse and abundant fungi. Our land is adjacent to the Finger Lakes Land Trust's King Preserve, so you will be camping in an area with 300 acres of forest and trails. It is also convenient to a diner, gas station, pizza/bar, a playground, fishing stream, and 2 ice cream stores (all walkable from the trailhead). Learn more about this land: This is an extremely rustic hunting cabin about a 15 - 30 minute (depending on hiker) hike up from the small village of Richford, NY. The hike is along old logging roads in the forest, but it's all uphill on the way in. We do not allow vehicle access to guests, but we have a vehicle we can use to deliver potable water (make sure to check with us to make sure we can provide extra water on the dates you need). There is a wood stove (for heat) and propane stove (for cooking). There is a triple decker bunk bed, you need to bring your own sleeping pad and sleeping bag. We have added a picnic table and small fire pit. There is an outhouse and hand washing station (seasonal). Fall leaf peeping is lovely, and as the leaves fall off, there are really nice views of the valley. You will have total privacy here!

This former hunting cabin is on a 90-acre property that we are fixing up. It is surrounded by hundreds of acres of wild land, and involves a hike in on logging trails. Eventually we hope to conserve the land in perpetuity. The land was logged about 25 years ago and has regrown quite a bit. There are beautiful large maple, cherry, pine, and butternut trees, as well as young growth and wildflowers and diverse and abundant fungi. Our land is adjacent to the Finger Lakes Land Trust's King Preserve, so you will be camping in an area with 300 acres of forest and trails. It is also convenient to a diner, gas station, pizza/bar, a playground, fishing stream, and 2 ice cream stores (all walkable from the trailhead). Learn more about this land: This is an extremely rustic hunting cabin about a 15 - 30 minute (depending on hiker) hike up from the small village of Richford, NY. The hike is along old logging roads in the forest, but it's all uphill on the way in. We do not allow vehicle access to guests, but we have a vehicle we can use to deliver potable water (make sure to check with us to make sure we can provide extra water on the dates you need). There is a wood stove (for heat) and propane stove (for cooking). There is a triple decker bunk bed, you need to bring your own sleeping pad and sleeping bag. We have added a picnic table and small fire pit. There is an outhouse and hand washing station (seasonal). Fall leaf peeping is lovely, and as the leaves fall off, there are really nice views of the valley. You will have total privacy here!

Weekend Trip to Round Top Retreat

I spent the weekend at Round Top Retreat alone to unplug, relax, and recharge and it was exactly what I needed. The wood burning stoves did an excellent job at heating the cabin. It got below 40° at night but it was probably 60° inside with the fire going. The stove is also great for cooking. It was a little rainy during my trip so I did all my cooking indoors. The driveway continues uphill past the cabin and turns into a hiking trail. I think it's supposed to connect to the Robinsons Hollow State Forest Trail but I couldn't find it (the official trial head is just down the road). It was still an invigorating 2 mile walk. I spotted lots of birds and a couple deer.

Great stay no one bothered us the site was clean and prepped for us when we arrived and there was extra toilet supplies in the pop up potty tent. There is another tent site maybe 50 ft away. It poured the second night and everything stayed dry within the tent. We didn’t get any super amazing views from the lick brook falls trail and the lake Treman loop but it’s been very dry so the falls/lake were very low

Camping at the cider orchard was a relaxing experience. The bed and raised platform canvas tent offered some comforts of home, but otherwise the site was a typical campsite with a fire pit, picnic table, and chemical toilet. You can see the other site from here if you’re curious. The price was a bit more than other hip camp sites we’ve stayed at for the amenities offered, but the location is convenient near Ithaca which made it worth the price for the weekend. The light that shines through the canvas tent was quite nice, diffused by the white cloth, pretty views of the field from the front door, and it felt safe at night. The nature preserve is literally steps from the site with beautiful trails, which adds to the value of the site, and there were a few finger lakes trail hikers passing by.

We loved this campsite! Everything was set up when we arrived, and it was easy to find with Steve’s instructions. Loved waking up to beautiful birds (hello American Kestrel!) and some sweet sheep friends. Having the FLX trail right outside of the site was perfect- did a great 8 mile loop through Buttermilk falls state park. The cider at South Hill was delicious- being able to walk right down was another bonus. All in all a great stay and we’ll likely return.

For 10 dollars, I bought a lot of firewood. The landlord was very kind and helped light a campfire. The night was very quiet and I could hear the calls of small animals. It is very suitable for observing the stars. The night sky on a clear day is so beautiful. When it comes to choosing a campsite later, this one is still the best option. It's very close to the Finger Lakes.

Property was clean and organized, we could not explore it all in a weekend. Host Dwayne was an easy going guy that wants you to enjoy his land. There’s enough trails nearby to hike for days with great views all around. Would stay again.

Weekend Trip to Round Top Retreat

Perfect getaway for myself and my two poodles. My only regret is that I only booked one night. We will be back for sure, hopefully this year if there are weekends still available. The cabin is incredibly charming and it smells so good! Not sure what I expected, maybe earthy, musty smell? It felt like home. I am not necessarily a hardy, “rugged” girl and I felt the accommodations were perfect. The sleeping loft is so beautiful with the sky lights and the large back porch is wonderful for early morning coffee while feeling immersed in nature. My dogs and I hiked through the goldenrod fields approximately one mile up the hill- great little workout for me. We went into the forest as well, found really beautiful moss-covered trees and stumps. My standard poodle is a swim-a-holic and spent more of her time retrieving from the pond and practicing her dock-diving distance. Surprisingly, I had great cell phone service everywhere I went on the property. Overall, stunning place with the warmest, most welcoming host, Nancy, and we cannot wait to be back there!!

Dreamy but simple tent setup on the grounds of a lovely cidery. You've got privacy right next to the nature preserve that saddles up to the cidery but can drive 15 minutes into town as well or just walk over to the cidery for lunch and firewood (on sale at the cidery). Be prepared to relocate some (non-poisonous) spider friends from your tent. Experience could be improved by the addition of some simple hooks in the tent but other than that, a nice vibe.

Weekend Trip to Naturalists’ Campfire Collective

We absolutely loved our stay at this camp. It had everything we could possibly need, from kitchen utensils, pans, silverware, a cook stove, an outdoor kitchen, a sauna, lights, water, incredibly comfortable beds, a bathroom and all the other creature comforts. We ended up bringing way more than we ended up using, we very easily could have showed up with a cooler and our clothes and not needed anything all weekend. It’s only 15 minutes from downtown Ithaca, so it was very convenient to go out on the town or to any of the surrounding natural beauty in the area. We absolutely loved being visited by the three cats on the property as well. We will be using this camp again and again and again. Aurora and Chris are excellent hosts, making sure we had a heavy duty wagon to get all of our gear to camp, and making sure we had everything we needed. If you’re looking for a relaxing and low stress camp where all you have to do is show up and enjoy, this is the camp for you.
