Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. Wild Yough is located in Southern Garrett County, Maryland very close to Herrington Manor State Park, Swallows Falls State Park, and the quaint mountain village of Oakland. The property adjoins thousands of acres of Garrett State Forest and hundreds of acres of state land along the Youghiogheny River. The world class Wisp resort and Deep Creek Lake are only minutes away. “Yough” is short for Youghiogheny River a state designated wild and scenic river which runs through the heart of the property. Wild Yough Glamping huts are part of more than 350 acres of private land, most of which is crisscrossed with hiking and biking trails. Youghiogheny is an Algonquin word meaning “a stream flowing in a contrary direction”, or in the case of the Yough, North toward Ohio Pyle and Pittsburgh. This section of the river is designated as a protected scenic corridor and you will feel the quiet isolation when sitting on the Crooked Butt Bench overlooking the big horseshoe bend in the river at the far back corner of our property. And if the river is low during your visit, feel free to wade across to the other side – Wild Yough owns the entire peninsula of land on the other side of the river and this is also bordered by State land.The river banks are steep on the property, but the fishing for small mouth bass is exceptional. There is a small turn around on the path just beyond Crooked Butt Bench where you can take out your canoe, kayak, or inner tubes after floating the 2+ miles from the Oakland bridge. Just be prepared to walk your water craft back up to the house or Glamping site as there is no motorized access to the river.If you like to lay on the rocks in the sun or take the kids for some wading in the river, the best place is the farthest to walk to. Take the trail to “High Bluff”, then cross the Snyder property line (Permission for trail access only – do not leave trail!), then descend down and cross the bridge across Herrington Manor Creek (a stocked trout stream!). Spend your day bird watching on the river deck, put up your hammock and chill, go hiking or mountain biking at Cacapon State Park, take the kayaks out and paddle around, go fishing, or take a float trip. I can provide info on put in/take out spots depending on how long you'd like to float. I have 3 kayaks available for your use, or BYO if you'd like to venture further outside of the property lines. There is one big fire ring for cooking and/or bonfires, along with a large stationary stand up charcoal camp grill. There is also a small communal shed down at camp that contains extra camping supplies, etc.. feel free to use use and put back and or/ contribute to it! :) This spot is close by to Berkeley Springs, Paw Paw Tunnel, Cacapon State Park, and other nature preserves. More hiking, biking, restaurants, spas, antiquing- all within a beautiful 20 minute drive if you wish to venture out. There is a cabin on the property. Sometimes I"ll come down to the river frontage if I drop in for a float .Also, we all get around on four wheelers and UTV's. So you will hear them from time to time. If I am home, please feel free to come up if you have any concerns/questions or to say hi! :) *Please note, you can normally get to this site without a 4 wheel drive vehicle. However, when the river is high it will sometimes flood the low water bridge where it crosses the Cacapon. Being in a clear house in the woods gives you the feeling of being fully immersed in nature. Having the outhouse, shower, & sink allows you to also feel clean & comfortable. There is electricity & wifi, which is a plus because otherwise we did not get any service. Hosts live on the property & were responsive. We enjoyed the river. Very peaceful.

It's an adorable cabin in a very peaceful setting, but not too far from Grand Cacapon or Berkeley Springs. The cabin is clean and well-appointed, although a tad tight with 3 teenagers. Do make sure to pay attention to the instructions and bring trash bags. Its a great "base camp" to go out and explore the local area.

Our time at The Invisible House was exactly what we were hoping for - it was not only peaceful, but we had everything we needed for a restful 3 nights and 4 days. Even though we had planned to spend an evening in Berkeley Springs, we opted to sit by the campfire each night and just be swallowed up in nature! Lorena was a gracious hostess, making sure we were comfortable and sharing their beautiful property with us. What an experience! We would love to visit again!

Pablo & Lorena were amazing! They are so kind, caring, accommodating and helpful. The site was perfect! I took my 93 year old mother and she had the time of her life. She slept better than she has in a long time. The invisible house was so tranquil and the beds were so comfy. Lorena & Pablo’s took the tubes and kayak to the river for us and offered to pick us up down the river. This was a trip she will never forget!

My dog and I enjoyed a lovely early April retreat at the Love House. We had everything we needed for a relaxing and magical stay despite one very cold night. The electric blanket was a welcome amenity! While I did not get the pleasure of meeting Lorena, I did get the chance to chat with Pablo a few times. He is friendly, responsive to needs and had info about the area. It was clear that the comfort of guests is important to him. While they were close by and accessible, the cabin felt private and relaxing. The location is convenient to local recreation opportunities. I bet the nearby river is a treat in the warmer months.

1 night at SunnySide Primitive Cabins

Doug calls these two cabins “primitive” and they are in the sense of being rustic and basic but not in their construction and definitely not in terms of the customer service he and his family offer. The cabin I stayed in was clean, dry, warm, and offered me the protection I needed when an early Spring ride on the GAP from the C&O turned unexpectedly wet and cold. If you are in the need of a simple superb cabin to rest, stay, recharge, escape, or whatever the reason-I highly recommend these cabins right off of the GAP and very close to Cumberland. Doug and family have an amazing history with this land, take pride in their stewardship, and it shows!

Weekend Trip to Casita Of LOVE (Panhandle WV)

Maybe our favorite vacation in West virgina so far. We were celebrating our daughters 8th bday who passed in 2020 and we were greeted with the most amazing cake. The place was amazing and clean. Large pile of wood for a fire. The outdoor shower was hot and easy to use. A large grill and fire pit for cooking anything we needed. The house had cute decorations everywhere and we noticed more as the trip went on. A short trip to the river that we had to ourselves. Lots of outdoor seating for around the fire or just relaxing. Pablo and Lorena were so incredibly friendly and gave us good recommendations for the area. Very easy to talk to and were very responsive before and after we booked. The kayak trip was perfect. Made us feel like we were at home. Cute art and s'more bag gifts. Nothing bad to say about this place or the hosts.

Weekend Trip to Casita Of LOVE (Panhandle WV)

This place is magical. Pablo and Lorena are communicative, kind and generous hosts. You can feel the love they poured into this beautiful glass house. There are views of the surrounding nature from absolutely every angle, including above you! It's private and perfectly equipped with all the luxuries you need while still maintaining the connection to nature that you would get from camping. Hot outdoor shower and very clean outhouse are a bonus, for sure. I enjoyed cooking my meals outside and just sitting by the fire and reading after a long day of hiking in the nearby Cacapon State Park. Although I didn't have the opportunity to go, there are also kayaks available for a nearby trip down the river.

2 nights at Ferns in the Forest

Me and my partner chose to rent this cabin for thanksgiving. It was absolutely fabulous, the cabin is so cozy, the composting toilet did not bring any smell, the shower was great, the bed was very comfortable and the view from the bed was the best part of the trip. I cannot wait to rent this again. Virgil and his wife were also very welcoming. I highly recommend renting this property.
