The rich history of Burnhead Grazings is enveloped in a love for God's creation. Dr. Gib and Emmy Lou McLaughlin purchased Burnhead, which is Gaelic for the head of the stream, from William H. Stevens. The once pasture for Hilltop Dairy's cows became a pasture for sheep. Gib and Emmy had been in search of land for years after getting their first border collie and falling in love with the Shepherd lifestyle. Gib trained dozens of border collies to work the sheep and did hundreds of demonstrations highlighting the herding abilities of the collie across the country. Their love for Scotland and the border collie took them Scotland on many occasions. Burnhead Grazings is a snapshot of Scotland, "in bye" or close to, the beautiful college town of Indiana, PA. Less than two miles from two hotels, three miles from downtown, and within minutes from Amish country, it is amazing that this respite still exists so close to civilization. Gib and Emmy's daughter, Moire McLaughlin Bridges and her husband Randy have endeavored to bring the sheep back to Burnhead Grazings and to continue the family tradition as well as to share in the experience. With 4 campsites on 75 acres, guests have ample privacy and space, with the freedom to roam this posted property that has no homes on it. Perched high above the Allegheny there are several spots to take in the wonderful views. There is also a waterfall with a 3’ deep pool below it. Great for splashing with kids or dogs, guests love exploring the creek bottom and making new discoveries. The more curious guests sometimes find the ruins of the original homestead, chimney and spring house that sit upstream. The property is teeming with wildlife. Birds and tree frogs will be the soundtrack of your visit, and often deer will be seen nosing along the outskirts of your site in the mornings and evenings. Very easy to find, well kept, quiet campsite by the creek. Though the weather was quite cold, I really enjoyed my stay at Muddy Myst. The trails were easy to navigate and the pond was beautiful! Can’t wait to come back in the warmer months for a dip!! Can’t thank you enough Liam enough for the complimentary coffee- much needed after waking up in 30 degrees!!! Will definitely be back:)

This was our first stay at Muddy Myst after looking at it on Hipcamp for a while now! With the state parks closing it was the perfect time to try this place out, and it was amazing!! The hosts were amazing and made us feel right at home! Falling asleep listening to the creek all night was also amazing. Will definitely be back!!

Bill and Nancy were very quick to respond, accommodating and helpful! He even even offered to loan me a sleeping bag when the weather was colder than I'd planned for! I ended up caught in traffic and was not able to stay there, but I have their place on my list for cross-country drives!

Very private . Nicely kept tiny home. Had everything we needed. Bring sheets if sleeping bag and own towels. But I didn’t find that to be an issue. Great place for dogs as well.

1 night at Muddy Myst

Fantastic property! We rented the tree cabin but the tent sites also looked great. All the amenities you could ask for while still being rustic and private. We visited for our annual fall leaf peeping trip, but we fully intend to come back in the summer--we are excited to take advantage of the cute little pond for swimming and kayaking. Would highly recommend!!

Weekend Trip to River Hills Above the Allegheny

Such a beautiful location. The views were amazing. The hosts were super accommodating and kind. They were on site when we visited, and they offered to give my nieces and nephews a ride in their buggy. They had a blast. Kids and dogs loved trekking through the creek and exploring the waterfall. The open field was great for us to play all sorts of games. Played capture the flag at night. All in all a great time.

So peaceful and charming. Had the best weekend. Just bring your own sheets and food and everything else is provided. You will have an amazing time at this tiny house.

Weekend Trip to Muddy Myst

We really enjoyed our camping experience at Muddy Myst. There was a ton of helpful information provided before our arrival and more available in the common area. The site felt private yet the common area and restroom were easy to access. I was particularly impressed with the extra touches, fall flowers on our picnic table, very nice soaps and air freshener in the impeccably clean bathroom, and a helpful space to clean up some dishes and get some hot water for cocoa in Hank's Hangout. This site is maintained lovingly.

I booked the tree cabin to surprise my boyfriend with a one-night-getaway for his birthday, and we absolutely loved our time here. Liam did an incredible job with communicating important info via Hipcamp messaging, and he created a beautiful, serene atmosphere at Muddy Myst that made our stay wonderful. Everything was clean, private, and beautiful. We really appreciated the bathroom & common area amenities. We had an amazing stay and absolutely will come back and recommend to a friend. Our dog loved the adventure, too!
