Turkey Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County Ohio. We are right on the edge of the largest Amish settlement in the nation. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 13 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels.

In our many camping adventures over the years our favorite campgrounds were in our National Forests. We have built the campground with that "feel" of a forest experience.
Walk the forested blue loop nature trail on an adjoining 13 acres that loops through BIG trees and large rocks of glacial till under the shade of an ancient chestnut oak tree. The trail begins across the road opposite the campground driveway. Ticks, mosquitos and deer flies can be bad at times. Protect yourself!

*Plan Ahead and Prepare

*Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
Durable surfaces include maintained trails and designated campsites, rock, gravel, sand, dry grasses or snow.
*Protect riparian areas by camping at least 200 feet from lakes and streams.
*Good campsites are found, not made. Altering a site is not necessary.
In popular areas:
*Concentrate use on existing trails and campsites.
*Walk single file in the middle of the trail, even when wet or muddy.
*Keep campsites small. Focus activity in areas where vegetation is absent.
In pristine areas:
Disperse use to prevent the creation of campsites and trails.
Avoid places where impacts are just beginning.
Dispose of Waste Properly
Pack it in, pack it out. Inspect your campsite, food preparation areas, and rest areas for trash or spilled foods. Pack out all trash, leftover food and litter.
Utilize toilet facilities whenever possible. Otherwise, deposit solid human waste in catholes dug 6 to 8 inches deep, at least 200 feet from water, camp and trails. Cover and disguise the cathole when finished.
Pack out toilet paper and hygiene products.
To wash yourself or your dishes, carry water 200 feet away from streams or lakes and use small amounts of biodegradable soap. Scatter strained dishwater.
Leave What You Find
Preserve the past: examine, photograph, but do not touch cultural or historic structures and artifacts.
Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them.
Avoid introducing or transporting non-native species.
Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches.
Minimize Campfire Impacts
Campfires can cause lasting impacts to the environment. Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light.
Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires.
Keep fires small. Only use down and dead wood from the ground that can be broken by hand.
Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes.
Respect Wildlife
Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them.
Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, [habituates them to humans], and exposes them to predators and other dangers.
Protect wildlife and your food by storing rations and trash securely.
Control pets at all times, or leave them at home.
Avoid wildlife during sensitive times: mating, nesting, raising young, or winter.
Be Considerate of Other Visitors
Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience.
Be courteous. Yield to other users on the trail.
Step to the downhill side of the trail when encountering pack stock.
Take breaks and camp away from trails and other visitors.
Let nature's sounds prevail. Avoid loud voices and noises.
These principles were established by the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, and built on work by the US Forest Service, National Park Service, and Bureau of Land Management in the mid 1980s. This relationship continues today. The principles are based on and informed by scientific research in the fields of recreation ecology and human dimensions of natural resources. We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). The Flying J Farm is 250 beautiful rolling acres including 100 acres of forest, 6-acre lake small pond, three streams, and numerous fields for crops and pastures with cows. The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables.
The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner.
Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures).
Trash. This sustainable farm has no garbage hauling, please carry away your trash.

The double bed in the loft and the two stacked single beds are comfortable and cozy.
The McKee Farmhouse was built in the 1800s and is rich in memories. It's a rustic old house, with wood trim, hardwood floors, and plenty of imperfections that make it unique. You can sit on the porch and drink your coffee with a view of the barn and pastures, or cozy up in one of the house's four bedrooms and sleep in. The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time.
Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table.
Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. Guests can hike with views of horses, cows, wildlife, corn fields, large boulders, and rustic barns. The dirt roads provide great places to drive ATVs and four-wheelers. An Amish farm borders McKee Farm. Guests should know there is minimal cell service, however, this can offer a great opportunity to unplug. Tullihas in the Trees provides a perfect remote and rustic getaway for anyone.

A porta-potty is located near the barn (a 5 minute walk) and a lug-able loo or portapotty will be available closer to the cabins depending on when you stay.
We are happy to help get your gear back to the cabins with the farm cart and then it is an 8-minute walk along a hay pasture to the parking area.
Tent Camping
Our tent camping spots are located under Mother Oak, a 100-year-old oak tree in the middle of our farm. With ample shade, a fire pit, and nearby portapotty, you can relax under the stars into the night.
Hiking trails weave through the back of the property and you are welcome to explore those as well.
Because we are a working homestead and farm, a few things are true:
-Sometimes there’s mud. We suggest boots for walking around the property and in the woods.
-Our farm animals are great - and may also bite. Please do not pet or chase them. We are happy to arrange opportunities to interact with the animals. Just ask!
-Not always, but at times, our neighbors will start farming early in the morning and you can hear their machinery.
All of our sites have privacy but are not truly remote. We want you to enjoy yourselves but please be mindful that our house is on the property as well as our neighbors. Music needs to be turned down to a low level by 11 PM.
We can accommodate pop-up campers, camper vans, etc near Mother Oak as well. Please message with any questions before reserving. Additional fees would apply.

The homestead is located near 58 so you can hear cars during the day and night. The cabins are about a ½ mile from the road so the noise is greatly reduced.

Another large beech tree has a tire swing for the kids. You might see our free range chickens roaming the property, and our very friendly barn cats Lucky, Chance, Millie and Earl.
Please note that our driveway turn in can accommodate up to a 35ft trailer. Dogs welcome but must be on a leash.
Water is NOT available from December-April.

Took my mom out camping for mother's day and we both loved staying at Camp HiYo. It was quiet, short ride to town if you need anything. Staff were very friendly. Clean dog runs for your fur babies. Gold Coast was really nice there was loungers, picnic table, fire pit and a propane bbq. All concrete with a gravel pad. 10/10 will be back.

This was exactly the kind of stop I needed after an 800+ mile travel day. The site was easy to locate, and the host went above and beyond from the moment I booked. They kept me updated on weather conditions during my long drive, which I really appreciated.
Upon arrival, I was greeted warmly and given options for parking my setup. Before I even settled in, the host invited me in for a hot cup of tea and genuine conversation - such a thoughtful touch after hours on the road. They made sure I had everything I needed before letting me get comfortable for the night.

Christy was so sweet. We enjoyed meeting her and her pup Duke! The land is immaculate and we enjoyed the marked trail through the woods and her little halloween path. She has really thought of everything. The firepit was great! I also recommend her pear chutney!!! It is also nice that we could book for one night. Thank you for your hospitality Christy! We will be back:)

Really pretty, well taken care of place. Level site worth a wood deck. Host was helpful and friendly. Lots of permanent residents had really fun Halloween decorations. We thought we were getting away from the Interstate to a quieter spot but didn't realize that it was right of of a busy highway and there was a lot of truck noise. I used earplugs and it didn't bother me.

My stay at Rolling Hills Farm And Stables was absolutely wonderful and exactly what I expected. The site was easy to get to and level. Electricity and water were right at the site. The setting was beautiful. Johnna and her family were delightful. They met me at the gate and took me right to the site. Johnna's cookies were delicious and her son's glee at telling me his Mom made them even better. Thank you! I will happily stay here again if I am in the area.

I used the RV boondocking site for a night and it was perfect for my needs. Very nice and generous host, and the portajon (in summer) was all I needed. The other sites looked lovely and definitely had a little nicer setting among the gardens. Would definitely stay here again.

This is a very quiet and peaceful property off the beaten path but not too far off. Many sites that can be next to each other and others having more privacy. Sites in the wide open or inside a cove of trees. Nice walking trails through the high wild grasses with lots of pollinators flitting about. Primitive camping so mostly tents, but also smaller travel trailers or motorhomes can fit right in. We spent the Labor Day weekend here and it was awesome. Fires in the evening and star gazing in the clear night sky. Sitting in the morning sun after breakfast in the light breeze. So peaceful. Christy met us as we arrived and she walked us about the property leaving it to us on what site we wanted. I really liked that the sites directly behind the barn were separated by a line of wild grasses. Nothing to stop one from walking through the grasses to the next site, but a very creative touch.

Christy has made her land very pretty with lots of flowers and plantings. Even lilies in the pond. She was warm and welcoming and offered help if I needed it. I would stay there again. sites are flat and grassy. It was totally quiet! Great nights sleep, I was also the only one there.

The camp was well maintained, the pool was pristine The grass campsite could have been a problem in rain you should make sure you have blocks. The shower area was absolutely fantastic. We will definitely stay there again. The cost was moderately priced
