Appalachian Retreat

Located in the rolling Appalachian hills of Southeast Ohio. This farm has been in our family since 1869 when our relatives settled here from Germany. This particular location was originally a home site for my grandfather's sister, Lizzie. Originally farmed for cattle and sheep with many orchards over the years our property is now mostly mature forest. Southeast Ohio, including our property is known for its hilly topography and microclimates. Hills range from 400 to 1,000 feet. On our property you will find dry ridges with tree species like Chestnut Oak or humid valleys that resemble a moss-covered temperate rain forest from the pacific northwest. Much of our property has now reached late stage mature forests with an open understory. Nearly 500 acres of land with an additional 200+ acres of Wayne National Forest adjacent to our farm and close proximity to other Wayne areas for outdoor activities. We have nearly 10 miles of available trails for hiking. Many activities can be done at or centered around our property such as excellent and challenging road biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, kayaking and boating. We are about one mile from the Little Muskingum river. A great river for kayak trips. The Wayne Kinderhook horse and hiking trail is roughly 5 miles from our location. Hike to the Irish Run Natural Land bridge trail also a short drive to the trailhead from our property. Riding your motorcycle up Rt. 26 is great! A great Ohio byway for scenic driving. This is also a great home base for dual sport or adventure bike motorcycle riders to camp while adventuring along gravel roads through Appalachia. If motorcycles aren't your method of entertainment and travel. Bring your horse and ride on several of our trails. From steep ascents to long flat ridge lines, you will have lots of time to immerse yourself with nature while hiking. We're next to a section of the Wayne National Forest and a short drive to other similar Wayne activities. It's a great place to hear a whip-poor-will sing on a spring night while stargazing as you see a satellite zip past in the sky. If you like to camp, but don't want the busy public park experience then you will enjoy the privacy of our camping location. Camp at our main site along the forest edge near the country backroad with a fire ring and mowed grassy area or there are also several backwoods primitive camp sites available for someone who wants to rough it. We are also only about a 20-minute drive to downtown Marietta. Where you can find restaurants, bars, and many other fun activities.

Dogwood Cabin

Dogwood Cabin is an off grid experience. Think glamping. It is set on 25 acres in the rolling hills of Morgan County in southeast OH, close to the village of Chesterhill. Hidden in the woods, back a gravel driveway. No electricity, no running water, no central heat, no WiFi, no cell service. Truly getting out into nature without distractions. Hang your hammock between trees. Build a fire to grill your meals. Relax on the porch swing or by the fire. Hike the property, play in the creek. Dogwood Cabin has a small kitchenette. There is a propane camping stove and some pots, pans, coffee maker, and dishes. We have a grill to place over the fire pit. There are 4 mattresses in the loft. No linens. Bring sleeping bags, etc. No running water. Bring water in jugs for drinking, cleaning up and dousing the fire. Buddy propane heater to take off the chill inside, but not make it cozy. Bring a flashlight or lantern. We have several battery lanterns. On low, the lights should work for 6-8 hours. On high, much less. An outhouse (think wooden porta potty) is not far from the cabin. No cell service or internet. Chesterhill is about 2 miles and has service in numerous places on Main St. We have gone up the hill at the church in Todds - right on Goshen Run, left on St Rt 377, about 2 miles. Firewood is not provided. You can bring your own or scrounge the woods for dead branches and twigs. Please douse the fire before leaving. Rake leaves away from the fire pit. Dry materials could easily start a forest fire. 8 plastic deck chairs are stacked on the porch. Please put them back and secure the cover before you leave. We encourage you to get groceries on your way to the cabin, since it is 30 minutes to a decent grocery store. Chesterhill has a small store where you can buy subs, pizza, burgers, fries, and groceries. Triple Nickel Diner in Chesterhill is a neat place to eat. No motorcycles on the driveway. If you are arriving by motorcycle, you can park it in or behind the barn at the entrance. You can walk up a path that is a lot shorter than the driveway. You may enjoy hiking the 25 acres on the property. Nature is awesome, but check yourselves and your pet for ticks. 24 hours before your arrival, you should receive a message with the code to get in at the digital entry door, plus a bit more information that you may enjoy.

We provide complete “Glamping” sites equipped with well stocked off grid Yurt , PawPaw Grove, which are Mini Convertible A Frame Cabins, Hawks Nest Cabin, a she shed cabin and 2 Basic rustic campsites to pitch your tent or camp in your van or car. We also offer the Wildcat Cabin w/3 Tom cats living there. Located outside of Laurelville in the Hocking Hills in Southeastern Ohio. Stay with us on private secluded campsites to escape the crowds!!! We even provide cut and stack firewood for your convenience! We ask for donations ($10 a large arm load) to help pay for the Old Man’s labor and fuel. We have a Bath House with Joolca's Nomad Hot Tap Kit. Nothing like taking an outdoor shower inside the newly constructed Bath House. We added a Solar shower backup also. We have walking trails, a small catch and release pond, Salt Creek is a creek running along the property with access near the Bridge. We are located within 20 minutes from 5 State Parks in the Hocking Hills. 2-1/2 miles from the Village of Laurelville which boasts 6 restaurants, a full service grocery store, butcher shop, gas station, bank, ATM and Old fashioned Hardware. It is a Dry Township so buy your liquor before you get here!

Fish Farm Camp

We also have a couple other ponds available for fishing as well. We raise fresh water prawn and bluegill in the summertime, so late september we have fresh shrimp available. It has 1.5 bedrooms, with a queen size bed in the bedroom and a queen pull out in the living room. Bedding and towels provided. It also has a full bathroom and a full kitchen, pots and pans, dishes and utensils included. You can enjoy a fire out front and your coffee on the porch as well. At this time, the cottage has limited outdoor space. It is located less than 10 minutes from Tecumseh Trails Off Road, Merkles OffRoad, Wayne National Forest and Burr Oak State Park. Purchased in 2019, these overgrown acres are now a federally registered Farm with the crop being Trees, and have a 10 year Woodland Stewardship Management Plan with the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources. I will be working hard over the years to bring this back to a healthy stand of mixed hardwoods, full of wildlife habitat.Learn more about this land:Enjoy approximately 10 wooded acres while being the only campers on site. Provided are a 4x8 lean-to, outhouse, fire ring, and a spool table. Hiking trails are cut throughout the woods, so feel free to explore. Just stay within the wire fence lines to avoid crossing onto neighboring private lands. This is a Federal and State managed Woodland, so please do no harm to any living tree or plant. Feel free to pick up any dead wood for use in the fire ring. (Cut Firewood also provided for free at campsite.) You do have to hike in and out between parking area and campsite. The access is on a slope, so you will get your cardio. It's about 500 feet from parking to campsite. 10 minutes from The Wilds. 10 minutes from I-70. 15 minutes from I-77 and Cambridge.

We are also 30 minutes from the Hocking Hills or 15 minutes from Strouds Run State Park and if you are a little more adventurous, you are welcome to hike the farm with many uphill climbs or an easier hike to see the little grotto. If going into town is more your speed, Athens is a few minutes away and you can be on the campus of Ohio University in less than 10 minutes without having to leave paved roads.

It was a dream come true when we were able to purchase this little slice of Heaven up on top of a hill. We find peace here at Dysfunction Junction Farm. We are not a true farm, hence the "Dysfunction" in our name. I don't raise animals to eat, yet (I've thought about meat chickens, but have yet to actually do it). Our animals are our pets. But we do have an abundance of eggs, and we are working on growing a larger garden this year. Learn more about this land: Set up camp at the top of our beautiful hill or down closer to the stream and horse pasture. We welcome families with pets and children. Bare Cove

Bare Cove is a recreation lake with campsites. However, we are not your typical camp ground. We have no quiet hours, we do get loud and have a great time on the weekends. It’s not uncommon for beer pong or card games to go into the early hours. We are open to all ages and backgrounds, anybody that enjoys making friends and having fun on the lake. All guests must sign personal injury waivers to cover our 6. So about the property, it’s 120+ acres with a 5 acre man made lake that features blue waters, a beach area and tikibar. We have atv trails, private camp sites and group sites. Enjoy the day floating in the clear blue water, fishing (separate pond) or hiking. Our lake also features a launch pillow for blasting your friends up to 20 ft in the air! We do have large float's for rent, which are great for groups.
