Weekend Trip to Smoky Mtn Mangalitsa River Ranch

This site is everything I could ask for in camping. The ranch is so beautiful and peaceful, and getting to camp by the river is such a beautiful privilege! The hosts are kind, helpful, and very responsive to all the questions I had. We also bought some of their pork, so good! I will be back SOON. It also is very accessible, and there is phone service there if you’re wondering! I can’t wait to come back this summer.

We had so much fun staying here! It's small but cozy, and the animals were such a treat. Danielle even left us food to feed the goats. We had all the cookware we needed to make a pasta dinner and Danielle was very responsive when we had questions. Beautiful mountain views as well.

We really enjoyed staying at Rachel’s farm! We camped near the trailer and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. It was very convenient to have access to the trailer for cooking, watching TV and getting a break from the elements. We are looking forward to staying there again!

Easy for large rig to navigate Gorgeous view It was our first trip in our new Schoolie rig, and we had some epic travel aggravations along the way. This Hipcamp site was the one bright spot in all that. 😆 I’d like to visit again when we can use it for a base camp for hiking or kayaking. This time it’s just been us regrouping to get on the road again

2 nights at Smoky Mtn Mangalitsa River Ranch

Catherine was great and the property was so cool. Rocks campsite had the river view and sounds I was craving :) Bring hammocks! However, buyer be aware! For riverside campsites like Rocks that were hit badly by hurricane Helene, they are trying to regrow the grass, so no tents/carpets on the grassy areas. That is 90% or more of the flat tent camping space. We found one ok spot for our small (4 person) tent in the pea gravel by the fire pit, so it worked out. But if we had brought a tent that was any larger (like the 6p tent we’ve been eyeballing), or more campers, we would have been out of luck. The other spaces in the pea gravel are not flat, and if you’ve ever slept on a hill you know it is… not great. Maybe they’d have allowed us to switch to another site if we couldn't make it work but I feel you should know (or double check) before you book. Also! Make sure to check for burn bans before you go! Big drought, wildfires in NC, strict burn ban meant that no campfires were had. Check before you go to set your expectations. Still, the amazing spot was worth it for us (2 ppl, 2 dogs). Good times were had and we would come back! And, thanks for the eggs, they were great!

We had a great experience on Daniel's property, he had a beautiful mountain view not far from Ashville and he lived on a farm so we got to feed the goats. The camper is just as described, Cute and cozy. Daniel's communication was great, He was very descriptive and on top of things. His property was easy to find, we did end up having a situation and not checking in until very late, And he allowed us a late check out. We have already booked another stay and will definitely choose this property any time we are near Ashville!

Weekend Trip to Raven Ridge

This place was the perfect weekend retreat. The place felt peaceful and silent—perfect for disconnecting and recharging. There’s a hill right next to the house where you can catch an amazing sunrise and sunset—the view of the Appalachian Mountains turning purple with the sunset light was beautiful. Mornings on the porch with a cup of coffee were my favorite—fresh air, a ton of birds singing, and total calm. At night, the sky was full of stars, perfect for stargazing. The house is really cozy and gives you that feeling of getting back to the basics and simple things of life. The Turkish oven was a fun and different experience for us, and the host, James, along with the people in the community, were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Would definitely come back!

In 2015 he was joined by Sofi, originally from Sweden and together they have three daughters. Together they manage a botanically interesting hobby hill farm and are happy to host travelers and seekers in their cabins. Hilltop was a joint project that James built in 2012 with a talented woodworker and friend in 6 months of saturdays for less than $5k. We have maintained the original vibe of the place, rustic simplicity and elegance a notch or two above glamping, well-described by the zen koan, "chop wood, carry water" Orchard House was built entirely by James from the block up to the roof, averaging 1 hour/day for 3 years or 1,000 hours. Some of the Hilltop photos are a bit dated, we have a more private outhouse behind the cabin, and have made a few improvements here and there. Reach out anytime for any reason. The host had it perfectly clean and well stocked. It has a bonfire pit and a smaller fire pit for outside gatherings and the hot tub was immaculately clean, heated, and ready for use when we arrived. Kids can enjoy swings and slides. We used it for a small gathering where about a dozen guests gathered during the day and six spent the night. Could not have been happier with property or hosts. Fireworks are legal and permitted within reasonable hours. Horses are welcome.

Electricity is generated by solar technology and a generator. All refrigeration and cooking appliances are propane; and so is the basic heat (propane again) - and a very old Jotul wood stove will do the rest. I sleep a lot on the day bed in the living room so the Sawmill can be comfortably rented for up to 4 guests. The outhouse is a thing of the past, just recently I installed a compositing toilet besides the bedroom.We also offer The Summit which is a high elevation, 2-story cabin surrounded by national forest which has evolved into an off-grid living and play space located at nearly 3300 feet elevation on a 1/2 acre flat with an incredible view. There are very private old forest service trails leading directly into the Pisgah National Forest.
