Amazing place! Laura and Steve were great hosts. We had a great weekend with them. The toilets at each site made it very nice. We didn’t have a shower bag but they provided one. We didn’t catch a catfish in the river. Amazing place to stay we will definitely be returning!

Awesome spot to camp! We were in spot five and it’s right next to the creek which has such great gentle white noise all night long. We loved turning over a few rocks looking for crawdads. My mother, sister and niece (7 yrs old) absolutely loved this place for my nieces first camping trip. They have gone above and beyond to make a beautiful place to stay and to make you feel right at home. I suggest using the wood, charcoal and ice they provide at a low cost. It just makes easier for yourself and they will deliver it right to you. We loved it so much we already booked the cabin for fall camping in October. We cannot wait to escape the heat of the coast in early October and enjoy the fall at The Dancing Pig.

The shire horses and creek to play in were a treat for the kids. Our group enjoyed the location and plan to return, hopefully when the assortment of Hostas are blooming. The Hipcamp description was accurate. Although it is near the highway and hosts residence where you can hear a truck every once an a while, the site is quite secluded. Nice flat open mowed grassy field for camping.

We really enjoyed our stay at this campground! We stayed at site #10, which was a bit secluded—exactly what we were looking for. It was the perfect spot for our group of 11, with 6 tents and 2 cars fitting comfortably. One of the highlights was the adorable "welcome committee" of chickens that greeted us on arrival—such a fun and memorable start to the weekend! Seeing all the animals around the farm gave the experience a unique charm that truly sets it apart from other campgrounds. We also bought eggs from the farm, and it was such a treat to have real eggs from genuinely happy chickens—fresh, delicious, and clearly well-loved animals. We later found out they also sell meats from the farm, which we would definitely have purchased if we had known earlier—such a great offering for campers looking to enjoy local, high-quality food. The hosts were incredibly friendly, talkative, and open. They made us feel very welcome and were generous and responsive throughout our stay. It’s clear they genuinely care about their guests and the space they’ve created. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a peaceful, nature-filled, and slightly off-the-beaten-path camping experience!

We bought a farm and started learning about farming in 2020 after a good friend of ours passed away from cancer and we started talking through what it would look like to try something we've always wanted to try. The top of our ridge called "soil road" used to be the main traveling path back in the settler days. The house at the bottom of our driveway used to be the towns post office, and there is a cave back on the creek where soldiers during the civil war camped out in. We are a working farm during the day so if you choose to walk down the ridge you'll find outside working with the animals or in the flower or produce garden. There is a lot of great fishing in the creek so make sure to bring your rod! We love pets so yours are welcome, and there are a lot of hiking trails and cute towns around us. Jessup Mill

Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. Lastly, check out a Facebook page for our occasional live music events and festivals!

We are about 45 minutes from Martinsville Raceway, a NASCAR facility; an hour from Booker T Washington Park, and the D Day memorial is in Bedford. We are 45 minutes from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and a half hour from Floyd. Floyd Fest is held in July and is a great weekend of music. We are an hour from Smith Mountain Lake for boating, sailing, fishing and recreation and about a half hour from Philpott Lake for boating, fishing and swimming on a less-crowded scale. If you are into history, we are an hour from Poplar Forest, Thomas Jefferson's second home. Going farther afield, we are 4 hours from Washington, D.C., 3 hours from Charlottesville, 2 hours from Charlotte, NC, and about an hour from Greensboro/Winston-Salem. Looking for a weekend getaway? Airy (Mayberry RFD from the Andy Griffith Show) and Elkin are within a 20 minute drive.
