We are a peaceful campsite located along the Greenway Trail 20 minutes from Downtown Raleigh and 10 minutes from Clayton. The farm offers private wooded meadows with direct access to the Greenway for walking and cycling. Campers can either rent a tent or bring their own, choosing between secluded spots, shaded areas, or open spaces. The campsite is accessible via a gravel farm track and is close to the Greenway, river, and main house for bathroom access.

Back to the basics, come and experience Tar River Life’s primitive camping on the Tar River.
Enjoy being on the river and listening to slow running sound of the Tar River. Bring your own tent or rent one of ours. You can drive your vehicle to all of our campsites.
The drive to camp is about 1/2 miles. Each site includes a fire pit, wood and trash bin. Cook your own meals or try and catch your own fish from the river. Campsites can be secluded or grouped.
Each site comes with a picnic table, 1 bundle of wood and trash can. Stay for a night or longer period of time, come and enjoy the outdoors with us. We have lots of walking trails, fishing access, wildlife, kayaking and tubing (must be purchased through us). 2WD vehicles are ok except during wet conditions.
There is also the Vollmer Farm, with seasonal produce a Full Coffee Shop with breakfast goodies and baked goods and not to mention their fabulous ice cream. They have goods from around NC including, eggs, honey, meats, beers, wine and more. There is a grocery store (Food Lion) about 15 minutes away. So you can stock up on supplies on your way to your next adventure.

Hi there! The Cozy Heron is an 𝙞𝙣-𝙩𝙤𝙬𝙣, riverside glamping resort. Noises of traffic from nearby highway is audible. Each wagon is equipped with calming sound machines that also double as bluetooth speakers to assist guests who may be bothered by sounds of nearby traffic. The site is well furnished (tents, tables, chairs and fire pit) and the owners are very friendly and helpful. The string lights add a great ambience after dark (make sure to ask for them to be plugged in). The only downside is the roosters who start crowing as early as 3:00 AM and may awaken light sleepers.

Great space, lovely property, wonderful hosts. We had a group of 10 for overnight camping and we had room to spare. We definitely plan to come back!
The big tent is BIG and could have probably accommodated all 10 of us. But we chose to spread out a bit so the kids could have their own little tent sleepovers.
There were pretty lights, comfortable easy bathroom access, chairs for sitting around the fire, a gate to keep kids in, and the star attraction was visits from the dog!
We also enjoyed watching the cows come up to fence with the baby calves. We spent hours down by the creek.

My husband and I had a great first camping experience at Tar River Life! The campgrounds were nice and clean and the area was pretty, full of trees and animal sounds. We enjoyed the sound of hooting owls at night while sitting at the fire pit and the view of the river was also relaxing. The host was nice and had wonderful communication throughout our visit. They also give 1 free bundle of fire wood for your stay and you can buy more right at the site, that was the best part for us! The site has no running water, or Wi-Fi and cell service is limited! Amenities include a picnic table, fire pit, personal porta-potty , trash bin and one bundle of wood! All in all we had a great time and are looking forward to coming back!

Weekend Trip to The Homestead At Little Creek
This was such an adorable and peaceful little stay. My best friend and I were looking for a place to crash before a rabbit show and this was a perk because we didn't have to bring our own tent. It looked cute online, and then we got here. Pictures Do not do this place Justice. It is so incredibly peaceful from sitting outside the yurt and watching the cows graze in the pasture next door to listening to the birds chirp in the trees and the frogs peep at night. I was incredibly thankful to have a bathroom with a flush toilet because I'm not all about that pit toilet in the woods stuff at my age. The bathroom was super clean and just a few steps away from the camping area. Sarah and (forgive me if I get it wrong) Jeff are great hosts. Jeff checked in on us to see if we needed anything and to make sure we got settled in ok. Mira the guardian dog suckered me in to giving belly rubs with her big beautiful soft eyes. A few kitties popped by to say hello and enjoyed some pets and scritches. I would absolutely stay here again!

Loved the space. The field was beautiful at sunset and sunrise, and the trees in the back spot covered the spot during the baking hours. Greenway access was such a plus, very easy to go out and back for as far as we’d liked. The horse, Dorian, was also incredibly friendly and so cool to see come and go. Sarah was a charm as well and joined us at the campfire one evening for a nice chat.

2 nights at Sugarneck Glamping Resort, NC
What a wonderful little hidden gem this is! The perfect place to get away for a couple of days and just relax and enjoy being surrounded by nature. In our younger years we would tent camp for all of our vacations. As we got older, having to ‘set up camp’ became more difficult. These glamping tents are the perfect solution for us! The tent was pretty much like the pictures. Loved the convenience of having the kitchenette. The bed slept much better than I was expecting.. I have back issues and that’s always a concern for me, but I slept great both nights. The porch was a great place to have a morning cup of coffee or an afternoon of reading while enjoying the wildlife. And having the private bathhouse just steps away was perfect. And as the sun begins to set, it’s almost magical to see the lighting through out the property. We enjoyed walking around the property with our dog, walking the trail and through the fields. The land is beautiful and so peaceful. All of the communal areas perfect for gatherings if you’re traveling with other families. As a retired event planner, I kept envisioning how perfect a wedding would be at Sugarneck!
I will definitely recommend.

We absolutely love Rick and Helen and their beautiful property! We booked last minute because another site didn’t work out for us and we’re so glad we did! The site we stayed in was level and very spacious with plenty of room for our tow car. The water pressure was perfect and they had 50 amp power. There were lots of beautiful places to walk and explore with our two dogs and they have ducks in the pond. We saw geese and turtles as well. It’s quiet and peaceful in the evening. Rick and Helen were welcoming and wonderful hosts. The barn, covered bridge and beautiful pond set the scene for the perfect camping weekend. We will definitely be back!

I loved camping on Nikki's land! The sites were well spaced out so there was plenty of space to relax and enjoy nature. The directions to get in and out of the area were clear and easy to follow and the maps at the entrance were very helpful when navigating the campgrounds. The personal camping bathroom tents at each site were very convenient as well. Would definitely come back to camp here again!
