Wiseman Ridge is a boutique micro campground for RVs only, first opened in July of 2022. Our property adjoins the Blue Ridge Parkway in Linville Falls NC with easy access off NC 221. We offer 5 full hook up RV sites with views of Hawksbill, Table Rock and Humpback Mountains. Micro means we have only a handful of sites but that is where micro ends. Each site is expansive, with large areas to spread out and enjoy the views or play yard games. Hi! Lindsay and Matt West here. Our farm is situated on a 33 acre forested property in the Swannanoa mountains where we grow plants, make pottery and do metalwork. Although our dirt road is ~3/4 mile long, we are just 8 miles from the heart of Asheville, 4.5 miles from Beacon Village in Swannanoa, 9 miles from Black Mountain, and 3 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our property is home to some of the most rare and beautiful wildflowers in the region, wildlife of all kinds, and a wood fired pottery kiln!
We have three spirited dogs who bark and play in the yard, and neighbors who ride motorcycles and make some noise sometimes, so it's not always quiet and peaceful, but it is beautiful and far more private than you'll get at a campground.
This is a working forest farm and studio space, so there will likely be sounds of productivity during daytime hours. We often have plants for sale, as well as pottery, herbs, eggs, and other farm offerings.
We live on a one lane mountain road that is shared by multiple homes. The road is rough in some areas. If you're used to forest service roads, you'll be fine here. If you're used to paved roads, you might find ours a little jarring. My mom drives a little front wheel drive car and makes it here fine, but use your best judgement based on what you're used to. AWD/4WD recommended for ease of parking at the campsite (just in case it has been a wet season, otherwise totally not necessary). We do recommend getting here before dark the first time you arrive if possible for ease of navigation.

The site's (there's only one!) first appeal is the amazing view of Bull Mountain Ridge. Beautiful all year long, but particularly in late October when the leaves are in their richest colors. It feels private and tucked away, but is very accessible to all of what the Asheville area has to offer. Downtown is a 15 minute drive; ride services and shuttles are both easy to secure and quite affordable. The backdrop of the site is forested and easy to relax in - the understory is maintained for guest use, providing cooling shade with a stunning view.
I usually try to say hello to folks and make sure they get settled in alright, but let me know if you'd prefer just to come in and have privacy. Don't feel the need to come to the house unless you can't get a hold of me via text and you need assistance. I may not be available when you arrive, but I'll try to get back in touch with you as soon as I'm able.
**Please be aware that this section of North Carolina has a particularly large population of American black bears. Any food stuffs, or other "smell-ables" will potentially attract bears.

My wife and I moved to the area, from Boone, in the spring of 2014.
Our dream was to own a house, preferably a cabin, on top of a mountain with long range views and a gradual winding road to the top.
Living in Boone, this dream was definitely out of reach.
When we began our search for a new home in the Asheville area, we discovered that the more affordable homes were in fact on the mountains.
Perfect!
In general I always have a pretty positive outlook on what’s possible, however, I was skeptical that we would ever find our dream home.
As Jeannie began her Zillow browsing adventures, one particular cabin with acreage,
that was outside of our budget continued to pop up.
Jeannie would delete it and then it would come back.
At some point the price began to drop, and drop, and drop.
On our way back into town one weekend after attending a wedding, I convinced Jeannie to drive by the cabin
just because we had the time.
Immediately we fell in love and reached out to our realtor buddy.
It was more of a shot in the dark but it couldn’t hurt, right?
We held our breath for the next month totally expecting someone to get it under contract before us or the sellers not accepting our offer.
It had already been reduced significantly so we knew our chances of a lowball offer were slim.
We offered the most that we could get a loan for.
They accepted!
I still get anxious thinking back to that month, October 2014.
Many years and two children later, here we are, just as excited everyday to make the long trek up our mountain as we were that August of 2014, and now we are happy to offer a similar experience to you, without having to buy the place.

Pitch your tent in the grass on the tip top of the mountain or park your camper in the flat gravel spot with a fire pit just below the top with beautiful views overlooking Cane Creek. In the fall and winter enjoy 360 degree views and in the summer enjoy the shade and cool breeze while relaxing & snacking on wild wine berries and black raspberries. What you will not find is light pollution, traffic, and a desire to leave the mountain. Fall asleep to the calls of the hoot owl and wake up to the knocking of the wood pecker.
If & when you decide to explore the area, be sure to checkout Hickory Nut Gap farm just 7.9 miles away & Whistle Hop Brewery 7.7 miles away. Turgua brewery just down on Cane Creek road is only 6.2 miles from camp. Cane Creek Valley Farm as well as the Cane Creek Community swimming pool is also at the base of camp just in case the kids need a dip of ice cream or a dip in the pool. Justus Apple Orchard is only 10 miles down the mountain towards Hendersonville. We love taking our kids there.
We are only 15 miles from downtown Asheville & Hendersonville, and 22 miles from Lake Lure. The site backs up to over 100 acres of forest for a truly wilderness feel just outside of town.

PLEASE DO NOT ‘photo book’!
We ask guests to please read through the details BEFORE booking a site. For example: not all tent sites are park at sites. Some of our more secluded sites in the woods are far from bathrooms etc. Sites near the winery/bathrooms are not secluded and you can see/hear ‘people’.
As of Jan 2025 we change to an age 13+ campground. No one under the age of thirteen years old is permitted to camp overnight. Younger children will still be permitted to visit the winery next door to the campground during open hours but must have an adult (18 years plus) with them at ALL times! Due to an incident that could have ended in tragedy we have a zero tolerance policy of unsupervised children. You will be asked to leave if your young child is unattended by an adult.
During the summer months we often have free range chicken eggs and organic produce and herbs available for our campers. We are next to our own winery/cidery that features home brew wines and beer. We also offer sodas. Firewood is for sale. You may bring your own firewood as long as it’s not from out of state.
We have a few primitive sites in our woods for those who love more seclusion and places to hang hammocks.
We offer Hiking/jogging trails at the campground with more trails on the nearby blue ridge parkway. We are just a 5 minute drive to downtown Little Switzerland. We are also only a 5 minutes drive to the famous Diamondback scenic mountain road. Approximately 20 minutes drive to Crabtree Falls on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Our cantina next door at 539 blue ridge gem mine road is open for the season and serving home brew beers and small batch ciders for ages 21 and older. Photo ID required. Sodas available for purchase as well. We now have a well lit covered porch area and club house with free WiFi and available 24 hours to our campers.
Note: absolutely no outside alcohol or underage alcohol consumption permitted on premises. Anyone not in compliance with North Carolina state laws and federal laws will be evicted from campgrounds without refunds. If the campgrounds happen to be under a burn ban please understand that we can’t and will not break the law for you! All campers must obey the burn ban if in effect or face possible penalties under state law! This is for your own safety as well. Anything sold by us may be legally consumed at your campsite and is covered under our winery ABC permit.
Camp host can’t go to bed until all campers are checked in so no late night arrivals please! Thank you for your understanding.
Adult horseback trail rides are available at nearby Springmaid Mountain Retreat. Maps provided to Springmaid Mountain. All minors must have ADULT supervision at all times at the winery next door (older siblings do not qualify as adult supervision). If we are babysitting your children to keep them out of danger or from damaging our property you’ll be asked to leave. We want everyone to be safe.
Up to 2 dogs are allowed per campsite. Dogs Must remain on leash at all times and have proof of up to date rabies vaccination. We have chickens and horses on our mini farm so please keep dogs under control at all times. Also, please do not feed our chickens, horses or any of the wildlife on our property.
It is the responsibility of our campers to check the weather conditions, noting any burn bans for the area or rain etc, looking at all the rules and property details, before booking is the campers responsibility. Please do not blame the host! HipCamp now offers rainy day insurance
Watch for our special events like ghost story campfire tales/walk with local guest authors, mountain yoga, herbal remedies classes, trail treasure hunts with prizes, mushroom identification classes etc.
Additional parking is available for added cars in the guest parking lot area if campers have no more room at their campsite for visitors or any extra cars.
We have a hot/cold shower and modern style flush toilets available in large cargo container. We also now have free Starlink WiFi in the Cantina/clubhouse area and some of the closer tent sites. Our clubhouse stays open for campers 24/7 with a microwave available, games, television and comfortable seating areas.
Note: The quarter mile of gravel drive is steep but I drive my two wheel drive car up and down it every day. However, if you have a vehicle that chugs and struggles up hills (older RV etc) you may find it a challenge. We are working on getting that section paved to help out the older RVs and buses.

All campers are expected to read and follow the HipCamp guidelines. This is not just a ‘business’, it is also a family home that we are graciously sharing with you for a small fee so we expect campers to respectful of our land, our neighbors and your fellow campers. Anyone who can’t show integrity, maturity and be responsible and respectful of this will be asked to leave and/or permanently banned from both the winery and our campgrounds. No fighting! This includes couples fighting. Settle it 'off property'. We are pretty mellow, yet take bad behavior and disrespect for others very seriously. Unsupervised children has been a huge problem lately and we simply won’t tolerate very young children wandering the woods, running across other folks campsites, deliberately damaging our property etc. It is up to the parents to fully supervise their children and keep them safe!
Caught without a last minute hotel room and rather not park your family in Walmart lot? We offer car camping in our parking lot for $15.00 a night. You’ll have access to bathrooms and a hot shower! We also have tents, sleeping bags and camping mats for rent.
Summer of 2025 will be our third year open and there have been many wonderful improvements! ❤️ We made it through Hurricane Helene with minimal damage and with the help of some kind volunteers we have some great updates!

We are a small hobby farm nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. Bring your sleeping bags and pillows and we will supply the rest. Our mountain spring will supply you with whatever water you need to shower and wash. Amenities include a toilet, shower, kitchen counter & sink, cooler, cooking utensils, plates/mugs, a grill, fire pit and an herb garden. With a little coaxing, our chickens may provide you with eggs for breakfast. There are plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors with hiking, fishing, camping, and kayaking in the nearby rivers. Sorry, we cannot accommodate RVs.
Fall is on it's way. We have winterized the site- there is a rug on the glamp platform and we will supply an electric heater in case the temperature dips!

Edwin’s place was perfect for us! It was our first time taking our two dogs camping, and we really wanted something secluded to test it out. This was the spot! Super private and allowed us to let our dogs off leash. The property was spacious and shaded. Being able to add on water was great. We will definitely be back!

Much better place to camp with our RV than places in Asheville but still within a reasonable distance. Lovely spot on Reems Creek. There’s a road nearby but it’s a dead end country road so not much traffic, and at night, nada. Thom was a great host, helpful without being intrusive. Was nice to have electric hook up. And if you have a well behaved, vaccinated (bring their records) dog, the Wag Bar in Weaverville was so much fun

My overnight stay at Will's place was great! I just needed a place to sleep for the night to get an early start for some hiking at Craggy Gardens and Mt. Mitchell. Everything appeared as or even better than pictured. Will met me when I arrived, showed me where everything was and made sure that I had all that I needed. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend!

Wow! What an amazing experience both the site and the host!! First, the site. I was greeted by a butterfly storm of beautiful proportions. It was like living in a butterfly garden. So lucky to have been there while they did what butterflies do. The creek was so nice and there were some flowering plants around. I stayed on site most days and just enjoyed the surroundings. Needed a bio-recharge bad. It’s close to a road but there’s very little traffic and when it does come by, they usually scoot passed in seconds. The hosts are amazing humans! I would have enjoyed just hanging with them. I will be back! I probably shouldn’t have been so positive. Word will get out… Ha!

If you have this saved as a potential spot just pick it! This place and these people are by far the best. Antoinette and Larry are the most perfect hosts you will ever meet. She made us cookies, bread, soap, her chickens left us eggs and she even gave us butter for the bread. Larry can make the hell out of a fire so just because it rained doesn’t mean you won’t have fire. “Make it Fun!” That is Larry’s motto and they do everything they can to make sure you have the best trip possible. They have everything you need so you don’t have to pack the whole car even though we always do. They had cots, chairs, pots, pans, coffee, a coffee pot, plates, eating utensils and knives for chopping, cutting board, salt, pepper, oven mitts, a grille, grilling utensils, a gazebo with bug netting and privacy layer, a toilet, water heater, fresh purified drinking water that comes from a spring, an outdoor shower, towels, a fire pit, firewood, a kitchen sink and even more! The chickens were friendly which we loved since we had to get rid of ours when we moved to the city. There were times when we just sat under the gazebo and contemplated staying forever. There were nights we just looked up at the stars trying to pick out constellations. There was no light pollution so the stars seemed even brighter than normal or maybe it was the magic of feeling like you just belong there. They make you feel like family and so welcomed it was heartwarming. Thank you so much Antoinette and Larry! You’re the best!

My friend and I tent camped the Gold Dust campsite for a trip to hike Mt Mitchell. It was private but close to the restrooms and close to the winery/cidery.
They have several touches like tethers for the dogs all around the winery, a few necessities if something was forgotten, hot showers and we loved their decor. Chrissy and her husband were both friendly and even helped us with directions to the Mt Mitchell Sumit trailhead with several roads still closed in the area.
We definitely plan on camping with them again in the future.

This was a pretty nice spot! We included the hot tub which was perfect after long days of hiking or enjoying some coffee in the morning. Only about a 20 minute drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway and lots of other areas for a good hike not to far away! Saw a turkey in the woods and lots of birds singing to you in the morning.

Nice creekside site. Plenty of shade. Very clean. Has 30 amp power and WiFi. About a 10 min drive to a grocery store and only a few minutes more to weaverville, while keeping a remote feel. In the pictures it may seem a little close to the road, but don’t let that keep you away. It’s a low traffic road with no outlets, only saw a few cars. Thom is a great host that keep his site top notch.

We had such a great overnight stay here. The view was incredible, especially at sunset, and the stars at night were amazing. It was so quiet—exactly what we were hoping for. The site felt very private, was easy to find, and the restroom was impressively clean.
The small structure is pretty cool with a sleeping platform and lots of extras. It does block the sunset a bit but we still had a great view.
Overall, we loved our stay and would absolutely come back.

Barnhill mountain is an awesome place to set up camp to explore the Asheville. I've stayed here two separate times and would recommend it highly. Excellent views from the site, very private, and less than an hour drive from many, many great hikes in the area. Great spot to camp with dogs and Edwin is a fantastic host, making sure you have everything you need. I'm not sure I'll be in the area again for a while, but this one's definitely bookmarked!
