This was our first “hipcamping” experience, so – understandably – we were a little nervous. The size of the campground and our site (Site #4) proved just right, the location – closer to Linville Falls than Newland – was fantastic, and the amenities of the campground proved ideal for campers like us, looking for privacy, peace and quiet. Eric is truly a “star host.” We arrived late and his personal assistance was of immense help. Thank You, Eric!
Of note, the driveway to the top of the ridge is steep with a tight curve that may prove challenging for a big rig (we have a 29’ Class C). I recommend including instructions for those towing a “toad,” to uncouple at the bottom flat before proceeding to the site.
Finally, proximity to HWY 221 means that occasionally traffic noise – particularly heavy trucks using their air brakes on HWY 221 – intrudes on the solitude of the place.
Overall, a “goldilocks” experience! Highly recommended!
