I am going to build a few cabins for lodging, but my first major project was building a chapel, so that it would be the centerpiece and heartbeat: a place for reflection, meditation, and prayer. I built the chapel myself (with my own hands, and the hands of a couple of friends). As I work on building the cabins, I have decided to use the chapel as a glamping site (better than using it as a "divine" storage building!). My mother was an artist and when she died I ended up with a lot of her artwork. Some of her paintings now fill the chapel. They also fill the space, I hope, with her grace and love and creativity. The chapel features beautiful timber frame construction. As to "glamping" . . . there is no running water/plumbing, but you'll have all the fresh water you need for showers, drinking, etc. Limited electricity for running the kitchen appliances. No AC, of course, but the fan will keep it comfortable in warm weather. As to cold weather, the chapel has an electric heater that keeps it fairly comfortable in cold weather: not blazing hot, but comfortable, unless it gets VERY cold; then, the heater just takes off some of the chill. Zinus Ultima Comfort Memory Foam 6 Inch mattresses are very comfortable! Using the outdoor solar/camp shower is wonderful. The privy is clean and well-ventilated. Appliances: fan; toaster oven; microwave oven; coffee maker; and, small micro-fridge. Lighting is provided by four rechargeable lanterns. Screens on the windows and door to keep the bugs at bay. Outdoor deck features comfortable Adirondack chairs, a Weber charcoal grill, and a fire pit for campfires. I'll provide you with wood (on a donation basis . . . pay what you like) campfires. Matches and paper provided, too, to help get the fire started. The play area offers opportunities limited only by your imagination. Sunbathing? Stargazing? Badminton and Bocce balls provided if you want to play! We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. The Cove consists of 12 acres with a tributary stream and spring fed ponds less than a half mile from the Toccoa River. It was originally the water source for the surrounding properties prior to the city installing a water system. It is completely private and unspoiled nature, with about a mile of walking trails throughout. The Mountaintop is a 3 acre high elevation site bordering 140 acres of undisturbed woods and is also very close to the Toccoa River. Fantastic location yet very private for base camp to access the many activities in this area, or enjoy the Toccoa River. It is the only campground in Fannin County limited to only one group at a time. Each site includes 2 access points to the Toccoa River. The Gibbs Drive community river access lot has a charcoal grill, picnic table, boat launch, swimming rock and fire pit with chairs. The Toccoa River Forest community river access lot has a big boat ramp. The river is controlled flow and usually at low water from dawn to about 2 pm, ideal for fishing or swimming/wading/boulder bopping. The River release schedule is available online at the website TVA.gov. The River has swift current when the dam is opened for release, usually daily. This property is conveniently located in Mineral Bluff, Georgia 30559, just 4 miles off the 4-lane highway (Highway 515/76) and just a short drive to Blue Ridge, Georgia; Blairsville, Georgia; Murphy, North Carolina, McCaysville, Georgia and Copper Hill, Tennessee. It is a paved road drive all the way to the entrance. It is located just a few miles from the center of downtown Blue Ridge with art galleries, many restaurants, brew pubs, shopping, the Blue Ridge Brewing Company, Mercier Orchard, the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad, and more! The Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad runs most of the year from Blue Ridge to McCaysville, right along the Toccoa River. The campsites are equally close to downtown McCaysville, Ga. /Copper Hill, TN. Weekend Trip to Salty Pines Hideaway

I had such a wonderful stay at Salty Pines! From the moment we arrived, they made us feel so welcome. They helped carry our things from the car. Tiki gave us a fun ride on the 4x4, and even took the time to play with my son, which meant so much to him. The yurt was adorable, spotless, and incredibly comfortable. The bed gave me the best night’s sleep I’ve ever had while sleeping "outside". My son absolutely loved playing with the hammock, and we both enjoyed spending time around the fire pit. I really like the picnic bar table. It was such a nice touch and made meals outside even more enjoyable. You can tell a lot of thought and care has gone into creating this place. We made some wonderful memories here, and I'll definitely be back soon!

Tighe was a great host, the yurt was nice and honey and the bed was great. I went and hiked to a waterfall and slipped and fell hard and when I got back Tighe got me a camping chair to sit in, a first aid kit, and dry socks. I'll definitely return. They're building something special there and it's a beautiful place. Take the back roads and drive through the Cherokee National Forest, it's great!

Weekend Trip to Woodsman at Starr Mountain Retreat

My buddy and I had a great weekend getaway to relax at the Woodsman Cabin at Starr Mountain Retreat on 23 acres in the Cherokee National Forest near Reliance, Tennessee. This place is the real deal. It is quiet, private, and surrounded by woods with that perfect peaceful vibe. The cabin is spotless, well laid out, and seriously comfortable. The queen bed in the main bedroom and the twin beds up in the loft were both very comfortable. They have literally thought of everything. There is a full kitchen, gas fireplace, grill, and all the little details that make it easy. You could literally show up with just a suitcase and feel like you’re checking into a hotel room. No scrambling for basics. They even had an abundance of dry firewood ready, and they thought of the little things like dry kindling in a bucket ready for use. The fire pit served us well for some great evenings chilling out. The owners were responsive, and it really shows in how well the place is set up. We felt that the advertisements for this location actually undersell just how excellent it is. This is a first-class spot in the woods. Already talking about coming back. Highly recommend it for any guys looking for a solid relaxing getaway. Thanks Nola and Brian! 🙌

Absolutely the perfect cabin. The cabin had everything we needed and only needed to bring our clothing and food. Nola has thought of everything for this cabin all the way down to the kindling for the fire. The beds were comfortable and the hot water was hot. The AC worked great and we loved the fire pit and front porch.

Very clean, very spacious and we felt very welcomed. My autistic niece was with me, if you have an autistic loved one you know how difficult traveling/staying the away from home can be. From stimming, to AWOLing, to places having very easily breakable Knick knacks everywhere 😭 I got to see my girl fully relax away from home, no one corrected us for her stimming or made us feel uncomfortable, enough space for her to run around, a creek to splash in, playground and toys for campers to use. We were embraced with open arms and we lovedddd it, highly recommend to anyone. You won’t be disappointed

The cabin was absolutely great! It was the perfect cozy retreat into the woods to disconnect and relax. The jacuzzi was a huge highlight and very enjoyable. Everything went smoothly, and Joni and Moni were great hosts—very attentive and fast to respond. Highly recommend!

We loved our stay in the a-frame and wish we could have stayed more than one night. It was cozy and tucked away with a beautiful view of lush green forest. We had the entire place to ourselves which was magical and restorative. The mattress was also very comfortable which was a plus! Liz kindly also provided extra gear (blanket, bug spray, lamp) since we had flown in and didn’t have extra gear. She was so hospitable and generous during our brief stay. We kept the window-wall up all night and had a great night’s sleep in the fresh air!

Absolutely loved our stay! The property is gorgeous and private. The Adirondack shack is the perfect place to set up your camp kitchen - or hide from the rain. The spring kept us in water for our entire stay - and the wildlife kept us entertained (foxes are very vocal lol). Don't forget to sign the guest book! We left a few things for the next visitors, as past guests have done before us. We can't wait to go back!!

Weekend Trip to Mountain Creek Rest

We had a great weekend at Diamondstone! From the cabin to the creek we were able to relax, unwind, and even adventure a little. Brian was kind and a pleasure to talk to, be sure to greet him if you get the chance as he had lots to share with us! The cabin and toilet were stocked with cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and plenty of liners/ bags! Our dog, Vivi had a blast and had lots of space to sniff around.
