Weekend Trip to Appalachian Pond Campground

Although I only stayed one evening, I absolutely loved my spot at site #3 (actually #4). Motorcycle camping, coming from Florida this was just beautiful site on a hillside with a small creek below and hsd a sunset view of the mountains. John was able to go out and pick up some firewood for me, which was amazing. Extremely friendly and wholesome people, I would be happy to visit again. The gravel road up to the tent sites is a bit steep, but I had no issue traversing it on my street bike with saddle bags in the dry environment. Thank you again, guys!

This is truly a one hidden gem of many in the hollers of the mountain but... this one has wifi a kitchen showers a bathroom and a beautiful creek running right down the middle. Would recommend this place to anyone that loves the outdoors and quiet!

Loved this campsite! Super secluded, quiet, and great views. They even have possibly the nicest bathroom/bathhouse I’ve EVER seen at a campsite. Clayton & Tiffany were really friendly and happy to help when we had a question. They are also dog friendly here! My German shepherd had a blast exploring around the campsite.

This site is everything I could ask for in camping. The ranch is so beautiful and peaceful, and getting to camp by the river is such a beautiful privilege! The hosts are kind, helpful, and very responsive to all the questions I had. We also bought some of their pork, so good! I will be back SOON. It also is very accessible, and there is phone service there if you’re wondering! I can’t wait to come back this summer.

3 nights at Indian Creek Rental's Mountain Camp

We had a great time camping at Indian Creek. The setup was nice and private. We explored some if their local hiking trails during our stay. The carport at the campsite came in handy during poor weather our first night, we were able to setup our tent under the shelter. One simple recommendation: 1. Some hooks in the bath houses to hang towels or coats while bathing would be handy. Additionally, a small chair or bench to be able to sit down to put on shoes in there would have been nice.

Daffodil Bank had plenty of room for our family of 5. 2 tents, 1 single person tent, canopy tent with our folding table plus the camps picnic table, 2 cars, and a couple places for a hammock. All that set up and still have space to move around. The Porta potty was very clean and not far from our site at all. The creek was beautiful. Everyone had a very nice time. So sad we had to leave, but we will definitely be back ♡

We stayed on here for 2 nights for our hiking trip.. and absolutely loved it. There was plenty of space at the primitive camp site (camping in the woods) and the Mountain View site for our group of 6 people (3 tents). The hot tub was perfect for our sore bodies after hiking for 2 days. The bathhouse was clean, modern, and spacious. The view from the Mountain View camp site is unreal.. we will definitely be returning for and hiking we do in the area! Very private, relaxing, and convenient well worth the price! Located on family land granted by King Charles in 1685 we have worked hard to restore and refurbish in a sustainable way, using the trees and supplies from the land that they sit on. Hand crafting doors and furniture the way the family did it 140 plus years ago. The history of this place is deep, even the nails for the cabin and farm house that is now the clubhouse were hand crafted by my great grandfather in his blacksmith shop, along with the wagon wheels, horse shoes, misc farm utensils etc... there was no running out to Lowes to pick up what was needed, it was made in the blacksmith shop. We love riding ATV's and SXS's on the trails on the mountains that I grew up on with my 3 brothers, we hope the people who visit and experience the mountains feel about them the way we do, we love em. We like to give riding tours and talking about the mountain and its challenges. We named the park from the famous product that was created here during prohibition, Cherry Bounce Moonshine. You can visit some of the original still sites on the mountain, of course they are not operational today. About the adventure co side, We are an adrenaline pumping ATV and SXS park with 25+ miles of mountainous trails at four skill levels; Green (Easy), Blue (Challenging), Black Diamond (Very Difficult) and Double Black Diamond (Most Difficult). You can bring your own ATV or SXS or rent one of ours. We have cabins & camp sites that are accessed by ATV or SXS on the mountains as well as hiking or biking. We do not allow jeeps, trucks or dirt bike motorcycles on the mountain, just ATV's and SXS vehicles.

We would be happy to supply a comprehensive list of the various local attractions upon request but the following are a few of our favorite things to do within a short drive: visit Linville Falls, Caverns, Gorge and/or Winery; drive the Blue Ridge parkway; tube/kayak down the Catawba river; hike beautiful Crabtree Falls; cross Grandfather Mountains mile high bridge and explore the nearby towns of Spruce Pines or Little Switzerland. Luxury RV camping near Lake Lure guide

Overview

Surrounded by lush greenery in summer and gorgeous oranges and reds in fall, North Carolina’s Lake Lure has an obvious allure. The town of Lake Lure itself is a small community of around 1,600 people on the shores of the lake for which it is named. Camping near Lake Lure invites Hipcampers to go hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, kayaking, rock climbing, or stay in a treehouse. Don’t forget to visit Lake Lure Flowering Bridge with flower gardens beautifying its full 155-foot span. They don’t call it “The Gateway to Somewhere Beautiful” for nothing.

Chimney Rock State Park

Look no further than Chimney Rock State Park for some of the best mountain scenery in all of North Carolina. The eponymous Chimney Rock granite monolith towers 315 feet above the forest. Take the hidden elevator up 26 stories, or ascend 500 steps to reach a humbling, panoramic view of Hickory Nut Gorge below and the forest all around. Hike further to Exclamation Point, the park’s highest peak. Tent sites, RV camping, and cabin camping options are all nearby.

Pisgah National Forest

Named the first National Forest in the eastern United States back in 1916, Pisgah National Forest includes over half a million acres of hardwood forest. Streams cutting through the forest provide great trout fishing, and the whitewater rivers are perfect for thrill-seeking rafters. High mountain peaks and deep gorges create an outdoor playground for rock climbers and mountain bikers. Ascend Richland Balsam, the 6,410-foot peak—among the highest in the eastern United States. Camping options range from primitive tenting to full-service RV parks.

Lake Lure Beach and Water Park

For some family fun away from the forest, pack the bathing suits and head over to Lake Lure Beach and Water Park. Owned by the Town of Lake Lure and managed by a private company, the beach and water park are open from March through September. There’s a large covered picnic shelter on the 100 yards of sandy beach, plus several individual picnic tables. Both kids and the young at heart will love the water slide and water games. The beach is easily accessible from any of the nearby campgrounds.

When to go

Camping near Lake Lure is most popular during summer, when the weather is warm and sunny. Average daytime highs are around 85°F, so it’s the best time for families to hit up the beach and enjoy water activities. Spring and fall are also terrific times to visit with milder weather. Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is particularly impressive in the spring, with blooms beginning in late March, while North Carolina’s fall foliage is second to none.
