Mountain Escape Country Campsite
Very charming vibe at first glance but we arrived there late at night and our sprinter van got stuck in a very dangerous situation where we barely made it off the mountain due to unclear directions (if you turn right before the houses as directed, you find yourself in the neighbor's small construction site and unable to get out). If we had arrived in the daytime we probably wouldn't have made that mistake though. There are about 3 little houses all stacked right next to each other and the people staying there blocked the actual drive to the campsite with their cars (which is understandable as there's nowhere else for them to park). We were going to ask them to move but when walking the path to the site we saw there was a downed tree in the way and it was even more narrow and impassible (especially with wet ground) so we ended up driving 5 hours home. Hoping this gets fixed up a bit for the next campers. Generally speaking I would estimate that only a small compact car would fit on the path but only a 4 wheel drive could actually have enough power and control to make it up the hill, so you're likely to get stuck either way. I'm actually very glad the path was blocked by the cars bc if we had blindly proceeded we would have been blocked by the tree and wouldn't have been able to turn around or back out due to the narrow and steep muddy hill.

Spectacular views , accommodations as described. This sight is on the side of a mountain so navigation is tight. Bring plenty of leveling blocks.

First I must say, we had a very lovely and peaceful time staying on John’s property. When we arrived we were greeted by a woman with a very friendly bulldog, and a while later, by John. He helped us and advised us on where to park.
Traveling up the driveway was tricky for us until we engaged in 4 wheel drive. The long gravel driveway is very steep and thankfully, it has a switchback. Parking our towable in the site (which was a narrow extension of the driveway) was somewhat difficult but doable.
All that being said…the surroundings were very beautiful, the nights were pitch black and the air was crisp. The location is on the side of a mountain, nestled in the trees. If ever we were in the area we would definitely try our very best to stay here! It was well worth the effort!

Loved the location! And thumbs up to a very considerate and welcoming host. Black Mountain is only 20 minutes from Asheville. The hill is a bit steep to get up to the site, but we made it fine without a 4x4 (just a powerful F150 with small trailer). Plug and hose were available as well as chairs. Black Mountain has small town feel, friendly people, yet everything you could want from the big city: wonderful coffee shops and restaurants, an organic brewery with great live music, a cider and mead maker, a grain-to-glass distillery.

Great site with perfect location to check out Black Mountain and Asheville. So much quieter than an RV park. Great place to go for a walk in the woods and really enjoyed the chickens and mountain air! Even had good cell reception! We have a 30 foot trailer and had to turn around in a somewhat small area, but not a big deal. Just a heads up so you know what to expect. Great place, would stay again!

John was a wonderful, kind host and the property is beautiful. We only stayed one night but would gladly stay here again any time we're passing through. Get the fresh eggs on the add on screen - they're delicious!

Spectacularly cool property, John the host was very kind and even brought us a fire ring and offered to let us use his water hose to refill our tanks before we left. Would definitely come back to stay here again. 20’ travel trailer had no problem getting up and down the road to the camp!

Awesome little hideaway tucked beside Asheville. Private country setting and yet close to society for dinner or drinks John does a awesome job making sure everything is right there and ready for when you arrive. I'll definitely be back!

Wonderful location. Everything as described. Would absolutely camp here again. One advisory note; the lower driveway becomes very muddy when it rains and could be very tricky for any vehicle without 4x4 capabilities.

Mountain Hideaway Amazing Site1
We had a nice time at John's site. He has a great location--close to town, but peaceful. Our children loved hiking down to a stream on the property (and finding bear tracks!) and watching John's bunnies and chickens. We did need to turn around to park in the site, but there is a good turn around area down the road from the property. Our travel trailer is 23 feet long and we felt comfortable fitting into the site. John is adding two additional sites that also look great. He was friendly and we enjoyed talking with him and appreciated the fresh eggs from his chickens! We will definitely return next time we are in the Black Mountain area.
