Bald Eagles have been seen on April 27th, 2026! The views are hypnotic, looking down and out over the continental divide. Good morning, and sunsets can be seen from the same spot. Your car is parked within feet of your deck, so Car Campers and experienced campers can enjoy. Designed with campers and dogs in mind. The deck is large (384 square feet) with a tin roof. Some are two-thirds, and some are one-third, depending on what one wants for tent size or sun exposure. (See pictures of each site/deck) Each deck features sun and rain curtains to help keep you comfortable in both sunny and rainy weather. Dogs enjoy a two-gate system that allows guests and dogs to be leash-free and away from the road. All dog owners know to pick up after their pets. The human Private Porta John is cleaned frequently. Lights and electrical outlets are 110V (3 prongs) for YOUR coffee pots, electric grills, mattress inflators, crockpots, electric blankets, fans, etc. I do not provide any electrical appliances, other than counter area lighting and low-level string lights, so one can see the night sky. PMany of my campers will "Pay it Forward" and leave coffee pots, hot plates, fans and such, so count yourself lucky to find a deck with them. I provide chairs, 5 gallons of fresh water in containers, a fickle solar shower, and a pop-up changing room, along with an assortment of camping supplies from dog bowls to antimicrobial. I provide various-size garbage bags to manage your garbage. Your parking area is next to the deck. Black Mountain’s tasty restaurants are 4 miles away, and All Trails is an excellent app for finding trails suited for your interests. Be respectful, please. Private Glamping Decks with a view that pictures do not do justice. Private decks on a dead-end gravel road mean hopefully the sounds will only be of nature. The conveniences of electricity, porta john, water, chairs, table, roof, cleaning supplies, rain curtains, and astounding views have my Glampers coming back often. Designed with Dogs in mind with a two-gate system and no need for a leash when on the deck. Obnoxious, barking dogs are not welcome, so bring only controlled and well-socialized dogs. Help me keep it dog-friendly. Never block the road with a park car.

If you're looking to escape to the mountains, look no further! Wild Ridge Trail is a place where you can come to unwind, relax, and take in the fresh air of our N.C. mountains! We are located only 10/15 minutes from all of the exciting things Asheville has to offer and just as close to the charming small town of Black Mountain! The cabin at wild ridge is OFF GRID (meaning no power or running water) but I promise, with our solar panels and rain collection system you won't miss being ON the grid at all! The cabin and the drive (or hike) up was designed for the adventurous at heart! So, drive on up if you have 4WD or AWD and if you don't, no worries! Just park in the designated space, grab your gear and hike on up! (The hike in is steep... about 300 ft but takes less than 5 minutes) We have a cooler up there for any perishables you may have, just bring ice :) Please note: We have to close the outdoor heated shower during the cold winter months, however we provide an all season 5 gallon solar shower bag to use during this time. We also have a list at the cabin of other places nearby that provide hot showers in the winter months for a small fee. In the rare event that heavy snow is expected, we will have to close the road leading up to the cabin because of its steepness. If this occurs, you will be given a full refund for the cancellation. To heat the cabin, there is a un-vented wall mounted heater that heats the space really well! Since the cabin is insulated, the heater works quick to heat the small area up so you will stay nice and cozy!

Welcome to my peaceful homestead in the valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This rustic studio space I affectionately call Chicken Church, has been a labor of love, using all the materials I have collected from my many construction projects over the years... and many states. No shower inside, but there is an outdoor shower, propane heated. (NOTE: Heater gets removed at first 32° and won't be available in November.) The main house on the property is within 200 feet, where I share the space with Airbnb guests. There is a close neighbor family to the left, about 250 feet away. Because my property is in a residential neighborhood, respect for neighbors and other guests is greatly appreciated. Outside, you’ll feel an instant sense of peace and tranquility surrounded by horses, happy, free ranging chickens, abundant woods, gardens, ponds with some new baby geese chicks soon, open lawns and a fire pit for your restful getaway. I have a pup who monitors the outdoors... and to keep it uncomplicated, i cannot accept other pets. Asheville is about a 12 minute drive: Known as the craft beer capital in the US, there is no shortage of breweries. You don't have to go very far to find a plethora of trails in this town, including the mountain to sea trail which is easily accessible from this neighborhood. Nero is a coffee brand based in the mountains on Western North Carolina, so when you camp at Nero you can enjoy a great cup of coffee (free coffee in my "coffee shed" on property!) and enjoy a relaxing spot in the mountains. Nero Coffee's mission is to create connection between people through sharing great coffee and conversation outdoors. I started Nero Coffee in 2019 and purchased 6 acres near DuPont State Forest to share my land and create my own coffee campground to continue growing the mission. Update for 2024! Nero Coffee's Camping Spot has three ways to camp. Site 1: Glamping in my custom built (and way too adorable) mini A frame cabin. This cabin is tucked in the rhododendrons for complete privacy. Enjoy the super comfy bed and unique lifting side door to let the outdoors in :) or Site 2: Camping with room for up to 8 guests. There are multiple sites and so much room to spread out for groups up to 8 people. This year I am only opening tent camping for one group at a time so you can experience the mountains in the most peaceful setting. The upper camping area has plenty of flat areas for vans, cars, trucks and tents, and if you don't mind carrying our tent down the hill, the lower creekside camping area is THE PERFECT stargazing spot. There's plenty of room to set up any size tent down there, too. basically, You have the campground to make yourself totally at home. Site 3: Simple Car Camping Spot - Just want a spot to pull over camp for the night close toDuPont State Forest? We can make that happen. No tents allowed here, but it's a peaceful alternative to a cracker barrel parking lot. ----- Once you set up camp feel free to visit the Coffee Shed - It's a small shed on the property by the house that has everything you need to make a great cup of coffee. Coffee is always free. :) I have fire pits, tables an, if I am home, I have a super cute corgi that roams around the property throughout the day. If you spot me outside feel free to say hi or ask any questions about the area. I love helping guests find new places to explore. You will be about 8 minutes to DuPont State Forest (my favorite hiking and biking area) which has miles and miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails. The entrance to Pisgah National Forest is about 15 minutes away as well so it's a convenient drive to visit the forest and drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I also own a company that guides "coffee hikes" to local waterfalls in DuPont State forest. You can find more about that in the photo descriptions. :) Please note!! My road up to my driveway is steep and bumpy. It’s only 0.3 miles up but bumpy. You don't need four wheel drive but higher ground clearance is recommended. (I have had small cars make it up but it is a bit intimidating if you are not used to driving in the mountains). if you have a small car just go slow. :) ------- Larger group? Want an indoor bath and shower?? If you are planning a larger group camping retreat and want to book the entire campground (including the main house with indoor shower, restrooms, and full kitchen and spare bedroom) I can make that happen for $500 a night. It's honestly the perfect spot for private, group camping and glamping up to 15 people. Just send me your date request and I will share a link to book if your dates are available. This is a beautiful place to reset and connect to family, friends, and nature. The shelter is well-made and a lovely place to enjoy a rain storm, have a campfire, cook, have fresh water, sleep to the sounds of the creek, have a sauna and cold plunge, all within a short walk of a beautiful bathhouse! It had everything we needed with lights and cook stove and pans/dishes and solar charger. It is very open air, but we had no mosquitos in June! It was perfect sleeping weather.

The views were one of the highlights of the trip. Whether we were enjoying our morning coffee, relaxing in the evening, or just taking in the scenery throughout the day, the landscape was breathtaking. It was the perfect escape from the everyday rush and exactly the peaceful retreat we were hoping for. The host was outstanding throughout our stay. Any questions we had were answered quickly, and communication was prompt, friendly, and helpful. It’s always reassuring to know your host is available if you need anything, and that definitely added to the overall experience. One thing that really stood out was how quiet and well-maintained everything was. It felt private, comfortable, and incredibly relaxing. We spent most of our time simply enjoying the property and the surrounding nature because there was really no reason to leave. If you’re considering booking this property, don’t hesitate. It exceeded our expectations in every way, and it’s one of those places that makes you start planning your next visit before you’ve even packed up to leave. 4 nights at Singletrack Shack

Had a magical time in the shack! It is clean, cozy, and bigger than it looks in the pictures. There are fans for if it gets hot, and also a heater if it's chilly. The outhouse is clean and convenient. Waking up to the sound of birds was amazing, and you can see so many stars at night! I think we even saw a few of the blue ghost fireflies, and a white squirrel! Beautiful trails to walk on with a ton of pretty moss. Christy and Rick are super kind and accommodating. Highly recommend!

We added an additional canvas top to keep you completely dry and sheltered. This site is totally private among the rhododendrons and has a creek you can hear while sleeping.

My wife and I have stayed at Above the Fray 3 different times. Twice at 271. We love it. Everything is thought of. If you want to relax and get away from the chaos, but only be minutes from town, this is your spot.

My family had the most incredible time at Nate’s glamping deck. It was extremely clean, well appointed, and the smell of the wood was fantastic. The deck had everything we needed, and it felt like a cozy respite that we were excited to come back to each night. The hot tub seemed brand new, always very warm and super clean. The bathroom exceeded our expectations and trust me, you will never want to leave the shower. I couldn’t recommend this special place enough. Nate and his wife were extremely responsive to our texts and questions, overall amazing stay.

We planned to back country hike with our 2 young kids, but when the forecast changed to mostly rain we booked at Fray Glamping. Check in was super easy. Doug was extremely helpful and helped us extend our stay another night. It was great to be covered from the rain with the shelter as well as the curtains that completely enclosed our tent. As the description says there is no running water and only electric. The natural spring down the road was easy to find and the best water I have ever tasted. The port a potty was on the 2nd level and super clean. We will definitely be back to Black Mountain and Doug’s Fray glamping.

Weekend Trip to Singletrack Shack

The shack was a nice upgrade from tent camping. Having access to electricity and water was convenient with the kids. We got in after dark the first night and Rick still met us over at the site to show us around and the next night he was kind enough to prepare the fire pit so all we had to do was light it when we came back. The outhouse was clean and nice. The boys loved the nature trails!

My family and I loved camping here! Vicki was very personable and shared some great local spots to check out while we were there. My kids loved the farm animals and especially sweet pea the Turkey! The tent was very spacious for my family of 5 and had everything needed for a weekend get away!The shower spot was amazing with very hot water! You can tell they put a lot of time and effort making sure they have spot to make people comfortable and feel at home. 100% recommend to anyone who is looking for a little getaway! Thanks for everything!

Weekend Trip to Above the Fray Glamping, Black Mtn.

We had an incredible weekend celebrating my 30th birthday on the deck. We heard the Whip-poor-wills, cooked many delicious meals, and enjoyed coffee with the sunrise views. It was also incredible having a natural spring for water just down the road. During the day, we made the short drive up to the Blue ridge parkway (one of my favorite places in Western NC) and went on a few hikes and had a picnic. Afterwards, headed in to downtown Black Mountain (15 minutes from site) and walked around a local market they had. I could not have asked for a better weekend and stay at above the fray. We will definitely be back. Thank you, Doug for sharing this beautiful space with us!

It was easy to find. Excellent directions to arrive, enter the cabin, instructions while there, and departing instructions. Hot tub on the back porch, completely surrounded by trees was fantastic!

Weekend Trip to Cold Spring Basecamp

The A-frame was comfortable, and I liked that the door was facing the creek. The sound of the water was peaceful. The A-frame was well stocked, and the land amenities were awesome. The bathrooms were clean, and we enjoyed the sauna and cold plunge. There were fireflies when we stayed. We'd love to stay on this lovely land again.

This place was a lovely respite! It felt like a tree house with my own slice of forest. Everything was well thought out, high quality and felt like rustic luxury. The hot tub, the shower and the trickle of the creek running past the deck...which was wide open to the beauty of nature was magical. Nate was a great host, respectful, accomodating and responsive. Can't wait to come back!

Weekend Trip to Wunderland Resort

Our villa and the property grounds were beautifully well maintained and set up! There is an attention to detail and care and so my family and I had a wonderful stay! It’s very close to town for purposes of dining and of course to the National Parks for all the adventure. The only and I mean only little meh is that the WiFi that’s supposed to be available is too weak to use and there’s very little cell service - it was not a dealbreaker for us cause that’s not what we were out there for, but just for a full FYI.

We love camping on Doug's decks! Such a cool spot and incredible views, our dog loves it too. Having power, a port-o-potty, and a covered roof makes this a great experience. We don't even bring a tent, we just sleep on the deck. Also, Doug is a super-host. We left a bag behind accidentally and he mailed it to us. Much appreciated!
