Weekend Trip to Winding Stair Campground

The campground is gorgeous! Our site (the glass house site) was close to the bath house which made it very convenient. The bath house is immaculately clean and well stocked with essentials for guests to use. We took advantage of the little store to pick up firewood, ice, and a couple of refreshments. They also have complimentary coffee and tea at the store. They really thought of everything. The pavilion is beautiful and my little one had a great time playing by the creek. We also loved the free ranging guineas roaming the property. We had a wonderful time and would love to come back!

This is our 2nd visit to Winding Stair. We enjoyed the Group Site, Pavilion and Bathhouse so much, we brought some new friends! Great location close to hiking trails and Franklin. Also visited Winding Stair’s Nursery in Franklin. One of the best, if not the best, campground we have visited.

This is our second stay here and as always we had a blast. River and farm is gorgeous. Bath house is very clean and I love their soap. All the animals are well cared for and on fresh grass. *Be aware that the River House building does have BLACK MOLD everywhere for those of you that are allergic.* it’s in every part of this building structure. If this is an issue, there are other sites and buildings that appeared to be mold free.

Weekend Trip to Raven Ridge

The small cabin was more charming and the surrounding land more beautiful than we imagined. This is a special place and I would highly recommend a stay. James was super friendly and provided anything we needed that was extra which included a guitar. Perfect!

Catherine’s property, views, animals and charisma were just a delight. We got the tour and the donkey meet and scratch (highly recommended) and just had a blast. Would 100% go back and stay on the farm. Very close to a great little town Waynesville where we found lots of delicious eats and beers.

Weekend Trip to Wilderwood Smoky Mountains

We had a wonderful stay in the tiny house & would definitely recommend it. Peaceful area, really cute cats, & plenty of amenities (firepit, coffee, showers w/ towels & shampoo, etc). Despite the size, the rooms felt spacious & the heater worked well even with cold nights. Only downside was the WiFi did not work during our stay. We found out once we arrived that a storm took it out, so hopefully this is a short term issue.

This site is everything I could ask for in camping. The ranch is so beautiful and peaceful, and getting to camp by the river is such a beautiful privilege! The hosts are kind, helpful, and very responsive to all the questions I had. We also bought some of their pork, so good! I will be back SOON. It also is very accessible, and there is phone service there if you’re wondering! I can’t wait to come back this summer.

Book this! You will not regret it. The drive is fun - I absolutely loved Lynne’s property! The views are incredible. They thought of everything - hot coffee, towels, robes. Just stunning. We stayed in the tiny house and fell in love. There are also the sweetest cats on site that made our stay that much more special. Thank you Lynne! We will be coming back ❤️

Kim was a charming hostess. She kept great communication throughout and showed us where everything was when we arrived. She was kind enough to gift us some fresh farm eggs! We hope to stay again for a longer period of time. The animals were wonderful and we absolutely loved our time with Shooter, the sweet guard dog who kept us company.

The Bunk Room is a simple room that sits above the bath house. This room has four twin beds - linens provided. This room has fans for the warmer weather and a space heater for colder months. Reservation is for the whole room.

We do not allow the use of our small wooded areas as toilets. Please review the Extras options as we offer river lifts, firewood and dog stays; thank you! Quiet hours are from 10pm to 9am. Checking in before 5 pm is requested. Later times may be available with prior arrangements. Our farm is very dark and navigating at night is difficult. James landed on the property in 2009, built a small barn and milked 3 cows for 3 years. Since then; he has been learning construction trades, planting trees and gardening the hillsides. In 2015 he was joined by Sofi, originally from Sweden and together they have three daughters. Together they manage a botanically interesting hobby hill farm and are happy to host travelers and seekers in their cabins. Hilltop was a joint project that James built in 2012 with a talented woodworker and friend in 6 months of saturdays for less than $5k. We have maintained the original vibe of the place, rustic simplicity and elegance a notch or two above glamping, well-described by the zen koan, "chop wood, carry water" Orchard House was built entirely by James from the block up to the roof, averaging 1 hour/day for 3 years or 1,000 hours. Some of the Hilltop photos are a bit dated, we have a more private outhouse behind the cabin, and have made a few improvements here and there. Reach out anytime for any reason. We love hosting and nearly everyone enjoys their stay.

Also available to all campers are washing sinks with hot water, toaster oven and microwave. - Communication: Or rather, lack thereof! There's no cell service on the property so it's a great time to get away from it all. Secluded Mountain Tiny Home & Barn

When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling. Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood. You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7. Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more. Whether it’s the absence of electricity (in the cabin), the quiet of the country, no city glow in the night sky, or the once common experience of the natural world dominating over human-made or human-crafted things, it’s astonishing for many of us to see and feel and experience without constant communications via text and email and the distractions of modern life. Many people write that they’ve learned an enormous amount about themselves, about homesteading or permaculture, and about alternate ways of being. This Spring (2016), we’ve increased the price a bit reflect more accurately our costs to maintain and improve the buildings & the property as well as carefully and lovingly transitioning it between guests.
