Fall in love with our secluded Off-Grid Cabin located in the Great Smoky Mountains. Wake up to the sounds of a babbling creek and beautiful mountain views, hike the Road to Nowhere, kayak the Little Tennesee River, cook hot dogs over an open fire, and then open the glass panel garage door and fall asleep under the most beautiful sky you will ever see. Rowdy Bear Highlights: • 12ft glass panel door that opens the cabin to nature • Queen Tempurpedic bed • Rain Captured Shower • Fire Pit The Space: The Rowdy Bear is an Off-Grid Cabin that is situated in the Great Smoky Mountains with easy access to both Bryson City and Franklin. The cabin itself was built using rough sawn wood acquired from a local sawmill. Many of the items used in the cabin came from local shops or antique stores. There is a 2000-watt Solar Generator in the cabin that can be used for lights, charging cell phones, and running the pump for the shower. The Solar Panels are enough to charge the Generator to 100% each day. Rainwater is used for showers. The gutter system on the cabin is used to catch rainwater. The downspout runs into a "First Flush Diverter", which allows any dust, dirt, or anything else that might land on the roof between the rainstorms to be diverted away from the water storage tank. The clean rainwater then fills the water storage tank. Be aware that Rainwater is fine for showers, but is not meant for drinking. Propane is connected to a space heater and the shower. The space heater is 17,000 BTUs, which is plenty for colder nights. The shower has an at-source water heater and can heat the water up to 120 degrees, which is more than enough for a hot shower. A porta potty is provided for bathroom purposes and is cleaned and restocked every Thursday. Pets are allowed! The following items are provided: 1. Linens 2. Towels 3. Coffee, Coffee Pot, and Coffee Cups 4. Body Wash 5. Shampoo 6. Board Games 7. Lanterns 8. Two Person Table and Chairs 9. Two Rocking Chairs 10. four Adirondack Chairs for the Firepit 11. Firepit 12. Outdoor table for food and drinks 13. Propane Torch for lighting fires Guest access The Rowdy Bear is situated on 2.5 acres of land. There is a large section cleared off where the cabin is located. There is plenty of room for the fire pit, vehicles, animals, and any outdoor games you might want to bring (cornhole). Both Bryson City and Franklin are fairly close to the cabin. Bryson City is approximately 20 minutes away, while Franklin is approximately 30 minutes away. Both towns offer great little downtown areas that have shopping and restaurants. Don't be afraid to try the food trucks, they have some of the best food. Bryson City has many trails for hiking such as the Road to nowhere, Noland Divide Trail, Three Waterfalls Loop (FYI: There are three waterfalls on this trail), and Deep Creek Waterfall Loop. The fishing in Bryson City is also great and the guided trips are very reasonably priced. I would suggest going in the morning and doing a float trip. Franklin is bigger and a little more spread out than Bryson city, but there are a lot of neat little stores and restaurants. I personally like going to the Currahee Brewing Company. Currahee is right on the river and is set up to host live bands and it gets pretty lively in the late afternoons and evenings on the weekends. Other things to note One of the things you would want to bring is a 1 lb propane bottle for the Torch that is provided. Using the torch to start a fire is much easier than kindling. The solar generator has enough power to run the small coffee pot if you don't want to use the percolator. The generator also has enough power to run hair dryers. The main thing you want to keep in mind is anything that uses a heating element will drain the battery quickly. Lanterns are provided If needed. Overall, you should be good to go, but it is something to keep in mind.

The cabin was cozy and perfectly nestled right on the river—just steps from the water. Loved listening to the sound of the current, watching the campfire flames, and waking up to birdsong. Great spot for a relaxing weekend, unplugging (literally), and enjoying nature. The various hosts and helpers were friendly and ready to assist. It's not fancy, but exactly what is needed at a great value. When you normally tent camp, carcamp/boondock, hike/backpack, it's all an upgrade!! This was my 3rd visit and will definitely be back! Only couple things to note, that some might want to know beforehand: there are 1 or 2 'resident RVs' other than the campground host in the campground and some (hunting?) dogs across the river/road that bark occasionally.

Very private cabins in a beautiful woods at a great price near the Smokies. Much needed during a summer week with intermittent rain storms. They were out of water when we were there so no flush toilets the first day and then still no shower or running water in sink. The owners are very friendly and available throughout your stay. The little camp store has goods that are best to pick up when you arrive.

A Frame is a sweet little shelter, kept us completely dry and mattress had us sleeping hard. We didn’t need to bother hauling our kitchen gear. This place made our time in the Smokies so magical! My boyfriend and I stayed in the Bambie cabin and it was so peaceful and serene. You really do feel like you have the whole woods to yourself. Rhonda and Roberta were wonderful and so helpful and kind. Rhonda even gave us a ride up to our cabin one rainy night when we were nervous that our low-clearance sedan might have trouble. Things to bring: extra linens because it can get pretty cold at night! We had two extra comforters in our car and ended up using both. Also, bring ample light options! We used all the lanterns and flashlights/headlamps we had. It gets really dark inside, as another reviewer mentioned. You can tell that a lot of love and care has been poured into this campground and that they really want you to have a positive experience. Overall a really beautiful time that amplified the quality of our trip. 💜

Super sweet and helpful staff! Bed was comfortable, river outside the cabin was absolutely beautiful. The cabin as clean and adorable. So many things to do nearby! Reception isn’t great but there’s a community center right up the road not even half a mile with open network that works great and they do have a WiFi spot on the campground as well. The cell service was not even close to a deal breaker this place felt like a home away from home! We absolutely loved it!

If you're looking to escape to the mountains, look no further! Wild Ridge Trail is a place where you can come to unwind, relax, and take in the fresh air of our N.C. mountains! We are located only 10/15 minutes from all of the exciting things Asheville has to offer and just as close to the charming small town of Black Mountain! HURRICANE HELENE UPDATE! After 2 months of being closed due to neighboring property landslides, our cabin is finally back open and the Asheville area is welcoming visitors!! Small businesses in and around the Asheville area need your support!! Please visit the area with patience and a kind heart! Just so there's no surprises...On your way up to the cabin you will see broken asphalt in an area(you will have to go slow over the bumpy rough area) you will also see some mud piled up on the sides of the road from where we had some gracious volunteers clear a way up to the cabin! Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we navigate through these difficult times! The cabin at wild ridge is OFF GRID (meaning no power or running water) but I promise, with our solar panels and rain collection system you won't miss being ON the grid at all! The cabin and the drive (or hike) up was designed for the adventurous at heart! So, drive on up if you have 4WD or AWD and if you don't, no worries! Just park in the designated space, grab your gear and hike on up! (The hike in is steep... about 300 ft but takes less than 5 minutes) We have a cooler up there for any perishables you may have, just bring ice :) Please note: We have to close the outdoor heated shower during the cold winter months, however we provide an all season 5 gallon solar shower bag to use during this time. We also have a list at the cabin of other places nearby that provide hot showers in the winter months for a small fee. In the rare event that heavy snow is expected, we will have to close the road leading up to the cabin because of its steepness. If this occurs, you will be given a full refund for the cancellation. To heat the cabin, there is a un-vented wall mounted heater that heats the space really well! Since the cabin is insulated, the heater works quick to heat the small area up so you will stay nice and cozy!

Hilltop was a joint project that James built in 2012 with a talented woodworker and friend in 6 months. We have maintained the original vibe of the place, rustic simplicity and elegance a notch or two above glamping, well-described by the zen koan, "chop wood, carry water" Orchard House was built entirely by James from the block up to the roof, averaging 1 hour/day for 3 years or 1,000 hours. Some of the Hilltop photos are a bit dated, we have a more private outhouse behind the cabin, and have made a few improvements here and there. Reach out anytime for any reason. The space Relax and unwind in the hot tub surrounded by tall trees offering shade and privacy. Off the deck you'll find a firepit for making smores and telling stories into the night. Enjoy a home cooked meal in the fully equipped kitchen or cook it outdoors on the propane grill. The open loft has a king size bed and the downstairs bedroom has a queen size. Both bathrooms have a shower/tub, one bathroom is in the loft and the other is downstairs. There are Roku TVs in the living room and both bedrooms. Kayak an inflatable stand up paddle board available for guest use. Finger lake is just down the street and as easily accessible for kayaking and paddle boarding. Other things to note - The cabin is heated by electric baseboards as well as a propane wall unit in the living area - The A/C unit in the loft window cools the loft as well as the living area and there is a second unit in the downstairs bedroom, as well as ceiling fans in all the rooms. - No indoor fires - Please note this is a remote location and while wifi access is available it cannot always be guaranteed.
