Bent River Equestrian

8 sites · RVs, Tents8 acres · Brevard, Transylvania
The farm is a former hayfield with an incredible view up to the National Forest. It is truly the best view you can get from the French Broad River Valley, and is convenient to town. The farm is in a private neighborhood. I hope that spending time immersed in the natural farmland setting will benefit my guests as much as it has me. Currently, there are 5 horses on the farm. HipCamp has made it possible to support our rescue ex-racehorse, Dahlia, over the years, and guests love to meet her. Nearby Brevard and Pisgah Forest township provide grocery, restaurant, and bar options, such as The Hub and Pisgah Tavern, Crank Coffee, Oskar Blues, Brevard Brewing, 185 King St, and more. Sellers love making tailored recommendations to your preferences. In 2022, we began to offer dispersed field camping in addition to the original RV campsite. The location is extremely convenient to Dupont State Forest, Pisgah National Forest, and Brevard.

Pisgah Forest Mountain Meadows

5 sites · RVs, Tents5 acres · Pisgah Forest, Transylvania
This 5-acre parcel was part of a larger 17-acre tract/cow pasture that was for sale in the spring of 2017. We had moved to this beautiful quiet country road the year before after spending 15 years in the hustle and bustle of West Asheville. When our neighbor put the land up for sale, we jumped at the chance to protect our view (we live across the street) and own another piece of the heaven we have come to call home. This land has a creek running through it, and is in a quiet, rural, residential area that is a mix of newcomers and families who have lived here for generations. The property has a secluded feel to it while being very conveniently located to the wonderful hiking, mountain biking, and trout fishing this area is famous for. We’re also very close to cycle shops, outfitters, groceries, restaurants, etc. We love it here and are excited to develop our plan for this space. We hope you will love it here too.

Flowertown Charm Off Grid Treehouse

1 site · Lodging23 acres · Canton, Haywood
This primitive off-grid 100% sustainable treehouse located on 23 private wooded acres in WNC, is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, adventure seekers, nature lovers, and hopeless romantics + dog parents! If the long range mountain views weren’t enough already…the treehouse is powered by solar, heated with the cutest tiny wood stove, water collected right from the mountain, exhilarating outdoor shower, and the coolest homebiogas toilet with a view! Along with hand-crafted woodwork from local lumber or right from the property itself, adorable kitchenette, custom copper finishes, and plush organic linens. This treehouse makes glamping feel luxurious and romantic. The treehouse is located on 23 private acres in Canton, NC, right on the Waynesville, NC border, just west of Asheville. The elevation is 3100 and climbs to 3700 to the top of the ridge the property goes up to, and the property is all sloped. There are a few nature trails started, with plans to add more. Down the street is the Ten Acre Farm which sells produce they grow and has yummy homemade pizza & donuts on most Saturdays, and Jukebox Junction is a vintage diner also down the road. Waynesville is super close and is the quintessential Hallmark mountain town with amazing shops, restaurants, and breweries, and everything you need for your stay. Enjoy hiking? Well perfect because there are hundreds of trails nearby because the treehouse is equidistant to not 1, not 2, but 3 Blue Ridge Parkway entrances and is in the Pisgah National Forest. The highest point along the entire route of the Blue Ridge Parkway is located near us as well at Richland Balsam. In addition the treehouse is on a scenic byway which connects to another scenic byway. That makes the drive just breathtaking, going by farms and forest and runs along the Pigeon River which also offers tubing and amazing fly fishing. If that's not enough we are close to Asheville, Maggie Valley, Hendersonville, and Brevard. We suggest visiting our website www.flowertowncharmoffgrid.com/FAQ if you have questions! WINTER BOOKINGS: Our driveway may be impassible during winter weather and we recommend snow tires, snow chains, and/or 4x4 during the winter months due to ice. We do shut down the running water during the winter to prevent the pipes from freezing. We will provide guests with 5 gallon drinking jugs with a dispenser to use, and the toilet still has water to flush. But the shower, sink, tub, hose, and bidet will be shut down during these months. If you want the true off-grid experience this is it ;) We do require guests to e-sign our rental agreement that we will email to you, and request a $300 security deposit hold (not a charge) that we will release upon checkout. This is just a precaution for us letting people we don't know stay at our place and respecting it.

Nero Coffee Campground

5 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents6 acres · Hendersonville, Henderson
Nero Coffee is a local coffee brand based in the mountains on Western North Carolina, so when you camp at Nero Coffee + Camp you can enjoy a great cup of coffee (free coffee in my "coffee shed" on property!) and enjoy a relaxing spot in the mountains. Nero Coffee's mission is to create connection between people through sharing great coffee and conversation outdoors. I started Nero Coffee in 2019 and purchased 6 acres near DuPont State Forest to share my land and create my own coffee campground to continue growing the mission. Nero Coffee + Camp is just in its beginning stages but I am continually making improvements and open to feedback and ideas! Coffee, Hiking, and Camping - Is there anything better? Once you set up camp feel free to visit the Coffee Shed - It's a small shed on the property by the house that has everything you need to make a great cup of coffee. Coffee is always free. :) I have fire pits, tables and a super cute corgi that roams around the property throughout the day. If I'm home and you spot me outside feel free to say hi or ask any questions about the area. I love helping guests find new places to explore. You will be about 5 minutes to DuPont State Forest (my favorite hiking and biking area) which has miles and miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails. The entrance to Pisgah National Forest is about 15 minutes away as well so it's a convenient drive to visit the forest and drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I also guide "coffee hikes" to local waterfalls in DuPont State forest. You can find more about that in the photo descriptions. Please note!! My road up to my driveway is steep and bumpy. It’s only 0.3 miles up but bumpy. You don't need four wheel drive but higher ground clearance is recommended. (I have had small cars make it up but it is a bit intimidating if you are not used to driving in the mountains). if you have a small car just go slow. :)

Raven Ridge

2 sites · Lodging3 acres · Marshall, Madison
James landed on the property in 2009, built a small barn and milked 3 cows for 3 years. Then, started planting trees, gardening the hillsides. He married in 2015 and has three Daughters with Sofi, originally from Sweden. Together they manage a botanically interesting hobby hill farm and are happy to host travelers and seekers in their cabins. Hilltop was a joint project that James built in 2012 with a talented woodworker and friend in 6 months of saturday for less than $5k. We have maintained the original vibe of the place, rustic simplicity and elegance a notch or two above glamping, well-described by the zen koan, "chop wood, carry water" Orchard House was built entirely by James from the block up to the roof, averaging 1 hour/day for 3 years or 1,000 hours. Some of the Hilltop photos are a bit dated, we have a more private outhouse behind the cabin, and have made a few improvements here and there. Reach out anytime for any reason ! We really like hosting and nearly everyone enjoys their stay.

Camping near Brevard with campfires guide

In Transylvania County and set just outside Pisgah National Forest, Brevard, North Carolina is surrounded by over 250 waterfalls and a vibrant local community. Visit in spring to experience the iconic White Squirrel Festival offering live music and a beer garden—the rare white squirrels allegedly escaped from a carnival truck in the 1950s, and you’ll see many scurrying around. Camping in Brevard offers wilderness opportunities from hiking and mountain biking to city entertainment in nearby Asheville. Rent a mountain cabin, choose a tent camping spot to settle into, or opt for RV camping near Brevard.

Where to Go

Pisgah National Forest

In the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, Pisgah National Forest has over 500,000 acres to explore. Make sure to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway to get incredible views as you travel, then dive into over 1,000 miles of trails, including hundreds of waterfalls. The mountain peaks and valleys provide the perfect terrain for mountain biking and rock climbing, while the Pisgah Forest has excellent fishing opportunities and whitewater sports too. There’s no park entrance fee, but some cultural sites have admission prices.

Asheville, North Carolina

Set among the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is the largest city in North Carolina. It’s well-known for its art scene and historic architecture, and it’s only a 40-minute car ride from Brevard. Take the Blue Ridge Parkway (dubbed “America’s favorite drive“) to see epic mountain views from the road, then opt for camping near Asheville for a homebase to shops, breweries, and museums. There are tons of local parks with picnic areas for lunch in the sun, plus nearby glamping.

Davidson River Recreation Area

Close to the center of Brevard (only three miles away), the Davidson River Recreation Area works for the whole family. Check out rivers and waterfalls, spend the day fishing for local trout, or take an educational program in the busier months (summer and fall). The state-run Davidson River Campground is a prime choice for tent camping with shaded spots, picnic tables, flush toilets, and parking, as well as access to hiking trails. Book reservations at least four days ahead or up to six months in advance.

Sliding Rock Recreation Area

Roughly an 18-minute drive from Brevard, Sliding Rock showcases a sleek 60-foot natural rock formation with water trickling overtop—the claim to fame is the opportunity to slide down before cascading into a deep pool. Although Sliding Rock is open daily, it’s weather-dependent and can close due to heavy rainfall that causes high water levels. Lifeguards are there during the busy summer months (May until mid-September). Find beach tent camping nearby or treehouse camping for snoozing among the forest canopy.

When to Go

Summer between June and August is prime time to visit Brevard, although the rainy season overlaps with the spring and summer months (May until late August), with July being the wettest. All this water (roughly 90 inches of rain annually) means it’s no surprise that Brevard is waterfall central. It’s a little cloudy all year-round, but summers are still hot and humid, with temperatures up to 83°F. Winters (especially February) are dryer, but snowfall is common between November and March.
