It's a unique cozy loft style design, set back in the woods on our property. It's purposely placed next to a creek, with a nice stone fire ring to really enjoy the outdoors. In the cold months, it's heated by a wood burning stove. Also next to the house are logging roads that allow you to hike the Ripshin Mountains. The Yadkin River is near by, and so is Boone and Blowing Rock. If you like mountain biking, bring your bike to ride Kerr Scott, or Zacks Fork trails. Also, check out the workshops at Pattersonschoolfoundation.org They offer sustainable living classes such as cheese making, mushroom foraging, blacksmithing, soap making, kimchi making, etc... But if you want the ease and peace of a campsite RIGHT ON THE NEW RIVER with everything just steps from your tent, then come out and claim your site! Redemption: To repair or restore. To make good. This campground represents redemption and healing in so many ways. Our hope is that you will find much peace, joy, and adventure here and we promise to do our best to make it everything you expected and more! Numerous large manicured campsites in an open space DIRECTLY ON THE NEW RIVER where adventures abound! Up to 4 guests and 2 tents per site. Newly constructed tiny home provides GLAMPING at its finest! The Liberty cabin shares a space with a few tent sites along the river. With the addition of Liberty, I have limited the number of campers to 4. (Exceptions may be made for holiday weekends). There is plenty of space for everyone and the cabin sits above the tent sites for amazing views and privacy. While HWY 16 can be a bit noisy during busy times, step into the campsites and let the peaceful noise-canceling river serenity whisk you away. Forest views across the river with endless fireflies and stars that light up the night! Zaloo's Canoes, Kayak, and Tubes is within eyesight and will set you up with an amazing float or paddle down river. Plentiful small mouth bass and trout fishing just steps from your site. Outhouse w/washing station. Fire pits at each site as well as a large communal fire pit and picnic tables. Downtown West Jefferson is just 15 minutes away with local breweries, quaint restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, shopping, music, art, and a wonderful farmer's market from May - October. The quaint little town of Lansing, NC is quickly becoming a favorite stop of mine. Check out the Old Orchard Creek General Store, Pie on the Mountain Pizza, the Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm, and Molly Chomper for a perfect day in Ashe County. The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc. Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge. Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival. Please respect quiet hours between 10 PM and 8 AM each evening.

Babbling Brook Campground

Before the Kerr Scott Reservoir was built, in the 40's and 50's, this neighborhood was a local swimming hole and vacation area. Public buses came from neighboring communities so people could boat, swim, camp, and picnic. While we don't have access to the pond, our part of this land still is calling out to people, 'Come, rest, unload your burdens, and find peace.' When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. Read a book while laying in a hammock. Sit by the fire and chat with family and friends. Come and participate in our little homesteading project, and leave your burdens behind. LOCAL ACTIVITIES: To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away. 15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking. Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away. Heading east, you can find several fine wineries andvineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public. To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones you find in the nearby river. There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages. Merlefest, the last weekend of April, is a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town. Be sure to look at the activities section below for additional information.

Under 90 sq ft, it is definitely a Tiny Home, but this little Wagon was custom designed to make you as spacious and open to nature as possible. It has a raised center ceiling with nautical windows that let in great light and make standing comfortable even for those who are tall. It has a 12 pane glass front door, combined with 2 large side windows that allow all the natural light you could need. Then in the evenings there are lights tucked into the pine woodwork that set off the inside with a peaceful glow. This Tiny Home boasts a Queen Sized bed with a very comfortable memory foam mattress. Stay comfortable year-round with a small mini-split system offering AC and Heat. There is a small coffee maker, toaster oven, mini fridge and microwave for your conveniences. Outside you will find a small tent on the wood decking that provides shelter from the rain and a nice place to sit in your zero-gravity chairs while listening to the tiny creek that runs by filing the pond below. Here you are also provided with a outdoor gas grill for cooking as well. There is no bathroom facility however a short walk down and across the creek is a private port-a-jon for your needs. There is a bathroom and shower facility in our barn within walking distance for your convenience. Go lay on a blanket in the grass by the pond, feed the Koi Fish, relax in the swinging hammock chairs while gazing at the nights galaxies and stars (very low light pollution in our area). This certainly is the spot to relax and renew. No wifi or phone service at the Wagon itself, but you can gain wifi and some phone service (depending on provider) from the barn area nearby. The entire Gypsy Wagon area is yours to use. The Pond Area is generally only used by Wagon Guests....on rare occasions you may find our family at the pond area but we try to leave it your own private oasis during your stay. The port-a-jon near the Wagon is yours to use. The bathroom and shower facilities down at the barn are shared with others with a shower sign-up sheet. This is an active and working horse farm and non-profit animal rescue. The location of the Wagon is tucked into the woods privately and is bordered by a horse pasture. You may occasionally hear horses, donkeys or dogs....a diesel truck or tractor sometimes as well.

Riverview Treehouse

The cabin is ~20 ft from the back corner of our house on a slope overlooking the North Fork of the New River. It is built on stilts next to a tree giving it a treehouse feel. You’ll have your own access to our side yard gate on natural stone steps. From the gate, there is a short staircase to the 8 X 10 front deck, partially enclosed for privacy. You may encounter our us, our small dogs or cats or us as you pass through the yard. The cabin is 10’ X 12’ with a small kitchen, sitting area, and sleeping area. The outhouse, with a composting toilet, is accessed through the 8’ x 6’ secluded back deck. The kitchen area consists of a sink, 2 burner hot plate, Keurig coffee maker and mini fridge. At the present time, there is no running water or working shower but drinking and cooking water is provided. We expect to have running water in the spring of 2024. There is a one-lane dirt lane easement just below the cabin that you’ll cross to access the riverfront. A few cars will pass by daily but most of the time it the lane is very quiet. The lane continues along the river for about 1 mile before it becomes paved, making for a lovely peaceful walk. You’ll have unlimited access to the river and riverfront lawn with seating and a firepit. The river is ideal for fly fishing for Brook, Rainbow and Brown Trout. This section of the river is regulated as “wild” public mountain trout water (open year-round, single hook artificial lures only, minimum size 7 inches, daily limit 4 fish). Kayaks and bikes are available for your use. The cabin is a 45-minute float upstream or downstream of two access points. 🐶 Pets are accepted on a case by case basis! Please contact us when you book to let us know what type of animal you plan on bringing!

This 1890's farm was many things in times long ago! It acted as a working Tobacco Farm, a country store and was known to have the purest spring in the region by the indians and mountain men! It also has a dark past complete with murder and moonshine! For a full history check out this book, Red Hill. The untold story of the Whitson Brothers and the Murder of Kit Byrd. The short version of the story: The farm also acted as a country store that was also a front for moonshine. The Whitson Brothers who owned our farm had a deal with Kit Byrd; a mountaineer from "on the mountain" who had a knack for making good shine. It ultimately was the death of him at the hands of the 3 Whitson Brothers. This murder years later led to the death of a large percentage of the population in this small NC Mtn town. The "outhouse/camp" toilet has instructions so please read it and also has a foot pump hand cleaning sink beside it. The shower is an instant hot water shower heated by propane. While this space is not winterized it has some insulation and a propane heater. The Tiny can be rented during the winter for $68 a night good Nov-March.Guest accessGuests' space is a tiny house with a covered porch, attached bathroom, shower, covered outdoor kitchen, and one 2 person tent site. The tent site is best used April-October unless you have proper winter camping equipment.Looking for adventure...look no further it is right outside your door, literally. Use your $20 adventure credit onsite with NCOA: whitewater, tubing, rock climbing and more. A few of the river activities end or begin a short walk from the Root Cellar House. You can also purchase hiking/river essentials at the Tiny Hike Shop. Important notes:*Linens for bedding provided but we ask that you please bring your own bath towels and use biodegradable soaps like Bronners Soap (available for purchase at the Adventure Outpost on-site).*rooms are cleaned every three days unless someone requests otherwise for an additional charge. *Please drive slow as we have a hound dog and cats that run around as do some neighbors. Deer are everywhere, drive carefully. It is super curvy and steep with no guard rails. RVs or large trucks can not get down our road or through the one-car train tunnel to the river!!!
