Lake Taghkanic is a great place for both summer and winter stays, with plenty of tent campsites as well as cabins and cottages, and a variety of activities to do year round. For winter folks, there's cross-country skiing and snowmobile trails, as well as ice skating and ice fishing areas, and plenty of fire pits to warm those chilly bones. For summer lovin', there are two beaches, so if someone kicks sand in your potato salad (accidentally, of course), you can just go to another beach and pretend like it never happened. The only sleeping quarters that are on the water are some of the cottages in the West End Cottage Area, so if you're planning on playing Beach Party Bingo, plan accordingly or be willing to walk a bit from your tent or cabin.

Well off the beaten track, it's scenic, private and peaceful. Camping at Moon In The Pond Farm is a bit of heaven. There are separate sites to choose. Around the farm, you have your own secluded spot to enjoy. (Though you may be in a field next to our Scottish Highland cattle!) Two are tent sites: the PondSide and the FieldEdge. There's one site for small/tiny RVs or Campervan. And finally there's the HiddenCabin--a bed a roof and convenience. Each has a firepit with a small grill to cook over the fire. (all firewood provided) Our campsites are in quieter areas of the farm. One overlooks the pond, others are on the edges of different farm fields, one a cabin nearer the farmstead. All require a beautiful, bucolic trek of 150-350 yards from the roadside parking--ensuring the quiet, natural experience. During the day times, you may see or hear farm work. At night it's lusciously dark and serenely quiet. You'll hear owls hoot, frogs croak, crickets chirp, foxes yowl and coyotes howl! In June and July the fields and trees light up like Christmas with fireflies, and you'll see the stars. During the week is the absolute best time--the local hot spots (or cooling down spots!) are much quieter, and all our campsites have reduced weekday rates. If you can, take advantage by adding a Thursday or Sunday night to a weekend stay. We've got an awesome, easy hiking trail on adjacent Nature Conservancy land. It meanders through woodlands, around rock ledges, through wetlands (on a 600' of boardwalk) and ends at a beautiful stream and pond with a gigantic beaver dam. Not far from here are numerous well-marked hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail (with famous Bash Bish Falls) and several offshoots (Sage's Ravine, Race Brook Falls), Bartholomew's Cobble, Umpacheenee Falls, and others). Also in the neighborhood are opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, gavel-road and country-road biking, and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity. Or... you can just chill and relax, sleep, or read the day away! Love food? This is Farm-to-Table for real! Never so close--the table's AT the farm! Bring your cooking gear and get some of our wicked fresh organic food--veggies, chops, sausages, eggs, bacon, granola, yogurt, etc. Sear yourself up a real treat! Very nearby, as the Berkshires is a cultural mecca, there are also numerous opportunities from many great restaurants to art, dance, music, spas, galleries, antique shops, museums, cafes and much more. It's still amazingly quiet at the farm where the Milky Way is clearly visible.

The fall, cool crisp days and changing leaves are just a few short weeks away. NOW is the time to book your experience with us. Enjoy rustic camping on our 115 acres of upstate NY forest. We are just a short drive to Cooperstown, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the summer baseball camps as well as the other museums that it has to offer. Howe Caverns in Cobleskill is also about 30 minutes away as well. The property consists of a mixture of upland hardwoods (mainly Oak, Maple and Cherry) with scattered stands of Red Pine, White Spruce, Hemlock and two open fields/pastures. There are also the occasional conifers scattered about just to keep things interesting. The majority of the property is gently sloping from the South up towards the North. The is also a nice ridge on the NE corner of the property to aid in topographic diversity. One of the fields is a seven acre hay field and the other is a five acre food plot planted in clover, chicory and other grasses. This field has also been recently planted with Apples, Pear, American Plum, Red Osier Dogwood, Persimmon, Red Mulberry, Chinese Chestnut, and Hazelnuts. These are all young at this time but will start to provide diversity and wildlife interest in the coming years. Wildlife abounds here at the homestead. Whitetail Deer and Eastern Wild Turkey are very common to see. We also have a variety of small animals as well such as Red and Grey Squirrels, Raccoons, Porcupine, Opossum, Fisher etc. For the birders, we have Barred and Great Horned Owls and Red Tailed Hawks. It is also not uncommon to see Bald Eagles soaring over the fields looking for their next meal. All of the property is easily accessible via our extensive trail system. There is also another 187 acres that borders our land that also has trails that would allow hiking. We have detailed maps so that getting lost would be the least of your worries. (About a 4-minute walk from your shared toilet/supply/storage shed by driveway.) Tent area has cleared flat pads for two small tents. Location is far enough from things that you can walk a minute into the woods and feel lost to civilization, yet only two miles of paved road from downtown Windham and all that the cozy resort town has to offer. Makes a great basecamp for exploring the rest of the Northern Catskills, or a hideaway to stay and get lost in. Hike miles of trails and old logging roads in the Elm Ridge Wild Forest, starting literally steps from your campsite. Swim in the large spring-fed pond, or just watch the colorful koi swim. A true wilderness experience. Base camp is an old Catskill farmhouse built late 19th century but first deeded 1820. Sits at the base of Evergreen Mountain bordered on three sides by tumbling water: West Kill Creek, Herdman Brook, and Haring Brook. Operated as a hunting and fishing lodge for decades - rainbow, brown, heron, kingfishers, eagles, larks , deer, bear, mink, beaver, bobcat - all there, right out the door, literally. You don't know what's going to come through your camp. The actual camp site itself is the ultimate in social distancing. As close to pure wilderness as it gets. No vehicles allowed at site. From an easily accessible parking space, it's a mildly uphill ten minute hike through magical meadows deep into a hidden mountain valley in the midst of 250,000 acres. Utter privacy. The only sounds being the wind, the birds, yourself, and Herdman Brook rushing along a few yards east of your site. Once again no vehicles are allowed at the campsite itself. At one time, yes, but we needed to disallow it because the property was being torn up, and the beauty of the site is that it's so pristine. This is not glamping. No cabin. No platform. Need tent, tarp, or hammock, and you will sleep under more stars than you can possibly imagine. Fire ring, cooking grate, water bucket This is true wilderness camping. You're off the grid at site - no cell service - but wifi available if necessary on front porch of main house aka base camp. 10 a.m. check in. 3 p.m. checkout. Please send ETA when possible. Campers ought to be aware that black bears live in these mountains., although you're not likely to see one unless it's running away from you. You should also bring FIRE STARTER to make your life easier. We sell firewood as well - 7 logs/$10. As with the waste bags, we would appreciate buying the firewood directly from us. Wonderful hikes - one to a waterfall - trail head at end of Spruceton Rd. Hunter Brook, Devil's Notch, Fire Tower atop Hunter Mountain, Ridge of West Kill Mountain West Kill Brewery and Spruceton Inn Bed and Bar each half mile up the road. Civilized respites. 4 campers preferred. 6 possible. One more thing: DOGS. We have two: a 13 year old female whatever and a shepherd-husky mix, 4 years old, also female. They are quite friendly and docile, although the shepherd looks intimidating, and both roam the property at will 2-3 times/day. We would prefer you not bring your dog, however, if you must, please be certain it is well behaved 4.5 miles up County Rte 6 to 1833 Spruceton Rd., NY 12492 Old white farmhouse. On left. Well off the beaten track, it's scenic, private and peaceful. Camping at Moon In The Pond Farm is a bit of heaven. There are separate sites to choose. Around the farm, you have your own secluded spot to enjoy. (Though you may be in a field next to our Scottish Highland cattle!) Two are tent sites: the PondSide and the FieldEdge. There's one site for small/tiny RVs or Campervan. And finally there's the HiddenCabin--a bed a roof and convenience. Each has a firepit with a small grill to cook over the fire. (all firewood provided) Our campsites are in quieter areas of the farm. One overlooks the pond, others are on the edges of different farm fields, one a cabin nearer the farmstead. All require a beautiful, bucolic trek of 150-350 yards from the roadside parking--ensuring the quiet, natural experience. During the day times, you may see or hear farm work. At night it's lusciously dark and serenely quiet. You'll hear owls hoot, frogs croak, crickets chirp, foxes yowl and coyotes howl! In June and July the fields and trees light up like Christmas with fireflies, and you'll see the stars. During the week is the absolute best time--the local hot spots (or cooling down spots!) are much quieter, and all our campsites have reduced weekday rates. If you can, take advantage by adding a Thursday or Sunday night to a weekend stay. We've got an awesome, easy hiking trail on adjacent Nature Conservancy land. It meanders through woodlands, around rock ledges, through wetlands (on a 600' of boardwalk) and ends at a beautiful stream and pond with a gigantic beaver dam. Not far from here are numerous well-marked hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail (with famous Bash Bish Falls) and several offshoots (Sage's Ravine, Race Brook Falls), Bartholomew's Cobble, Umpacheenee Falls, and others). Also in the neighborhood are opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, rock climbing, gavel-road and country-road biking, and pretty much any outdoor activity/adventure opportunity. Or... you can just chill and relax, sleep, or read the day away! Love food? This is Farm-to-Table for real! Never so close--the table's AT the farm! Bring your cooking gear and get some of our wicked fresh organic food--veggies, chops, sausages, eggs, bacon, granola, yogurt, etc. Sear yourself up a real treat! Very nearby, as the Berkshires is a cultural mecca, there are also numerous opportunities from many great restaurants to art, dance, music, spas, galleries, antique shops, museums, cafes and much more. The fall, cool crisp days and changing leaves are just a few short weeks away. NOW is the time to book your experience with us. Enjoy rustic camping on our 115 acres of upstate NY forest. We are just a short drive to Cooperstown, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the summer baseball camps as well as the other museums that it has to offer. Howe Caverns in Cobleskill is also about 30 minutes away as well. The property consists of a mixture of upland hardwoods (mainly Oak, Maple and Cherry) with scattered stands of Red Pine, White Spruce, Hemlock and two open fields/pastures. There are also the occasional conifers scattered about just to keep things interesting. The majority of the property is gently sloping from the South up towards the North. The is also a nice ridge on the NE corner of the property to aid in topographic diversity. One of the fields is a seven acre hay field and the other is a five acre food plot planted in clover, chicory and other grasses. This field has also been recently planted with Apples, Pear, American Plum, Red Osier Dogwood, Persimmon, Red Mulberry, Chinese Chestnut, and Hazelnuts. These are all young at this time but will start to provide diversity and wildlife interest in the coming years. Wildlife abounds here at the homestead. Whitetail Deer and Eastern Wild Turkey are very common to see. We also have a variety of small animals as well such as Red and Grey Squirrels, Raccoons, Porcupine, Opossum, Fisher etc. For the birders, we have Barred and Great Horned Owls and Red Tailed Hawks. It is also not uncommon to see Bald Eagles soaring over the fields looking for their next meal. All of the property is easily accessible via our extensive trail system. There is also another 187 acres that borders our land that also has trails that would allow hiking. We have detailed maps so that getting lost would be the least of your worries. A true wilderness experience. Base camp is an old Catskill farmhouse built late 19th century but first deeded 1820. Sits at the base of Evergreen Mountain bordered on three sides by tumbling water: West Kill Creek, Herdman Brook, and Haring Brook. Operated as a hunting and fishing lodge for decades - rainbow, brown, heron, kingfishers, eagles, larks , deer, bear, mink, beaver, bobcat - all there, right out the door, literally. You don't know what's going to come through your camp. The actual camp site itself is the ultimate in social distancing. As close to pure wilderness as it gets. No vehicles allowed at site. From an easily accessible parking space, it's a mildly uphill ten minute hike through magical meadows deep into a hidden mountain valley in the midst of 250,000 acres. Utter privacy. The only sounds being the wind, the birds, yourself, and Herdman Brook rushing along a few yards east of your site. Once again no vehicles are allowed at the campsite itself. At one time, yes, but we needed to disallow it because the property was being torn up, and the beauty of the site is that it's so pristine. This is not glamping. No cabin. No platform. Need tent, tarp, or hammock, and you will sleep under more stars than you can possibly imagine. Fire ring, cooking grate, water bucket This is true wilderness camping. You're off the grid at site - no cell service - but wifi available if necessary on front porch of main house aka base camp. 10 a.m. check in. 3 p.m. checkout. Please send ETA when possible. Campers ought to be aware that black bears live in these mountains., although you're not likely to see one unless it's running away from you. If you're really nervous bring bear spray, but you're not likely to need it. I literally chased one off our porch not a month ago. I would appreciate your purchasing human waste bags from me at base camp when you arrive. I'll have them here for $3.00/bag. Feel free to buy your own. You should also bring FIRE STARTER to make your life easier. We sell firewood as well - 7 logs/$10. As with the waste bags, we would appreciate buying the firewood directly from us. Wonderful hikes - one to a waterfall - trail head at end of Spruceton Rd. Hunter Brook, Devil's Notch, Fire Tower atop Hunter Mountain, Ridge of West Kill Mountain West Kill Brewery and Spruceton Inn Bed and Bar each half mile up the road. Civilized respites. 4 campers preferred. 6 possible. One more thing: DOGS. We have two: a 13 year old female whatever and a shepherd-husky mix, 4 years old, also female. They are quite friendly and docile, although the shepherd looks intimidating, and both roam the property at will 2-3 times/day. We are 107 acres of forest, a 9 acre lake, ponds, creeks, labyrinth, a Holistic Retreat Center & Organic Permaculture Farm at a 2000 foot elevation in the Heldeberg Mountains. 500 million years ago during the Devonian Period this was a sea, so we live in shale based mountains with lots of fossils! The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time. Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land. Hiking, canoeing, swimming and fishing (catch & release only) are available on site. There are many places to hike in the area, an Eagle Trail and in winter, 2 miles away, is a Nature Preserve that rents snowshoes and has trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing, Very rural and private, even though we are only 25 miles SW of Albany, NY the capital of NYS, here it is quiet and peaceful. We do have 3 very friendly dogs that will want to be your best friends. Also farm animals that you can meet. There will be farm noises, roosters greeting the morning and various grunts and snorts... far less noise than any modern city. Albany, along with the surrounding areas, have many events etc going on. There's hiking, biking, nature parks, horse racing, concerts, festivals and events and so much more. We had a great stay at Triple Creek! The view from the campsite is stunning and so peaceful and quiet. Stephen was communicative and very sweet when we arrived, and then gave us full privacy after check-in. Like other campers have mentioned, there is a considerable uphill walk to the campsite …a cart is a must, but it’s still quite a workout getting a cart up and your gear up there. We were there late October and the ticks were bad (mostly on the walk up/down)- we planned for it with long pants, boots, tick spray etc and were fine though. There’s a great brewery about a mile down the road and tons of really cool hiking very close to the campsite - we recommend hiking the West Kill Summit along Devil’s Path. Overall we had a great stay and would definitely recommend this site to other (prepared) campers!

Todd went above and beyond at every instance that we needed him. Lovely spot, great trails in hardwood forests for dog walks. Quiet country living, beautiful pond. Couldn't ask for a better host. He even lent us his waste tote to dump black and grey tanks and even took it away with my husband to dump.

Great place to camp with great views of the lake. Farm animals on the property are friendly and very cute. We got to bottle feed a baby calf and hand feed other farm animals, lots of fun. At night we enjoyed cooking over campfires, stargazing with a glass of wine. Paul and Marilyn are great hosts, look forward to visiting next summer.

This place is amazing, it’s the only HipCamp site I have ever gone back to more than once. Three trips so far and plan to go back. The animals are very docile, the hosts are as friendly as can be but give you your space. Plenty of room to spread out. Generous amount of wood on site for the $$$.

Such an incredible experience. I expected to be on a small piece of land with a few animals, and we discovered a beautiful property with animals of all ages and varieties. The hosts were warm and invited guests to interact with the animals/feedings/grounds. Nothing better than to wake up to baby goats.

Mark is an amazing host, along with his wife and dog. They were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay, shuttled our bags to and from the site on check-in/check-out, provided us with plenty of firewood for the weekend, and lent us their canoe to take out on the private lake. The tent is located on the far side of the lake (away from the road) with a stunning view of autumn foliage reflected off the water. It feels very remote and peaceful with only sounds from the surrounding forest and beautiful view of the stars on a clear night. The tent and fire circle are kept very clean with a heater provided inside the tent that keeps it very warm. It was the perfect setting for a romantic weekend having just proposed to my fiancée. Overall, I would recommend this property very highly and hope to be back for another stay soon!

The way the clouds and sun dance across the mountains and ridges here adds drama to already amazing views. Campsite(s) are tucked down in the meadows and forests beyond this large pond, where the evening sun hits.

Amazing stay! Timothy was a great host and the land was beautiful. We arrived late and Timothy was so accommodating. The area was serine and the star show was vivid. The pond with the koi fish were a nice surprise. Recommended 10/10. Will return soon.

Simple but thoughtful and functional touches of à la carte hospitality, and dynamic acreage allow you to tailor an experience based on your partiality for beasts and campers.
