We have been the caretakers of this land and cabin since 2015, when we bought it from the builder of the modest cabin on-site, Steve.
It is our family camp, but we love to share it with friends and fellow nature-loving campers.
The land is partially wooded, and partially 'old field' that is slowly re-foresting through natural succession with some intentional interruption in order to introduce edible native trees and shrubs that are not naturally present.
In this way the land is a slowly developing food forest and also a nursery for its plant-loving stewards.

Escape the city and find yourself in this off-grid hillside cabin with a deck overlooking the Taconic mountain range. Wander through field and forest, and cool off in the nearby stream. The cabin has two rooms, and there is a kids playground and tire swing making this an appropriate family camping getaway. There is a solar panel providing indoor lights and phone charging capabilities, a fire pit with a grill, and a simple array of pots, dishes, and utensils. There is a spring-fed 55 gallon reservoir of potable water that will slowly refill as well.
Though not far off the road, there is very little car traffic, and the surroundings are very peaceful. The din of the running stream is a constant, while the sounds of coyotes and owls can be heard at night. As the name indicates, the east-facing hillside is often witness to incredible moonrises, and the stars are always bright.
Nearby Attractions:
The Beer Diviner small-scale brewery and taproom is a stone's throw away from the parking area with a selection of tasty beer and some food options available. In addition to regular hours, there are special summer events, and live music every Saturday night.
Cherry Plain State Park is a 'less-traveled' state park and campground just 3.5 miles up the road, offering lake swimming, boating, hiking and mountain bike trails.
Other nearby outdoor attractions include: Williamstown MA, The Taconic Crest Trail, Jiminy Peak Resort, Hancock Shaker Village, and Mt. Greylock.

This is a 1920's cottage that we moved and restored. The building site is an old Charchoal mound that was in use in the 1700's so there is a lot of history between the building and site where it sits. It's a beautiful spot right on the water, tranquil and full of wild life' we I built this cabin for the quiet enjoyment of our natural world. This is a place to unwind and reconnect. We have just added a 10*12 platform tent to accomodate an extra couple or for more space for older families with teenagers. This is still 1 site, tent just gives a few options if needed. We supply sheets, blankets, TP, dish soap and kitchen items(silverware, plates, glasses, cookwear, etc). Potable water and firewood included. A short walk across the lawn to the outhouse. Gas lights inside. No internet so come get away from technology!
New this year! We have added a shower shed with hot water! You will now be able to take a quick shower. May through October or when the weather is above freezing at night.
Please if staying with us in the winter four wheel drive is recommended. Or front wheel drive with decent snow tires. The driveway is long and the road up to it can be tricky during winter weather. Also because of the woodstove, it might not be a good place for toddlers in the colder months.

We host NYS Police along with local police/sheriff deputies here through our organization Hearts in Hand Horsemanship LLC. Don't be surprised if you see a NYS trooper or police unit parked up in the field near the horses.
All fires must be completely out unless you are physically with your fire. We supply 5 gallons of water and more is available to drink, wash dishes and put your fire out. Please respect our rules. Fire safety is necessary to keep everything safe here for all of us. Thank you for understanding.
Here in the mountains we can experience very cold nights. We supply a small pile of firewood for a small fire at no charge. If you like, you can gather more dead wood (not live trees) in our forests. Winter is coming soon. Please bring lots of clothes and layers. Stay warm!
Smoking: We are primarily a non-smoking/vaping farm and appreciate you smoking/vaping in your vehicle not on our premises please.
Partying: Nope not us. Our farm is peaceful and quiet and so are our neighbors. Please party elsewhere and come here to relax in the blissful quiet of nature. Quiet music, just playing some Spotify tunes and acoustic musicians are welcome here. There's a great bar restaurant 5 minutes from us, "17 Cherry Plain Sq". Live music, great food and something like 40 beers on tap. Party there then chill out here with us.
Breakfast and the best beef this side of the Mississippi can be found at Gardners Cafe and Icecream Shop only 5 miles up 22 South from our place. You can enjoy a big fat omelet with homefries and bacon then grab frozen hamburg and steaks from Gardner's own local beef grown wild and free outside.
Cherry Plain Sanctuary Farm is adjacent to miles of public forest. Peace and solace can be found in these quiet mountains. In addition to amazing hiking, backpacking mountain biking, road biking right from your Hipcamp site, with kayaking nearby.
We are 10 minutes away from Cherry Plain State Park (which has a gorgeous lake and kid-friendly sandy beach), and even closer to the Taconic Crest Trail.
Our location is nestled between the Taconics of New York, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and the Berkshires of Massachusetts.
Come share our paradise, bring your outdoor adventurer gear (you will be glad you did) and we will share our favorite local destinations with you.
We ask that all hipcampers who are primary guests be 21 years of age or over. Children are welcome but we will not knowingly rent to anyone under 21 years of age.
There is a $50 additional charge for garbage left at our farm including cigarette butts (we are a no smoking farm!), broken glass, bottles, cans, plastics, containers, bags and other trash.
This is a pack in and pack out working farm not a party spot. Renting from us constitutes your reading of our rules attached to each property, your understanding and your agreement of our policies. Our slice of paradise consists of 225 acres of forested land nestled in the foothills of the Catskills near Albany. We are a homestead and small campground devoted to the principles of organic farming and self-reliance. Modern agriculture and big business are unsustainable, destroying farmland at an accelerating pace. It is important for us to teach the next generation, there is an alternative. We produce much of our own food. We have friendly goats, chickens, ducks, peacocks, donkeys and horses the guests can pet and feed. There are no swimming holes on our property, but many waterfalls and swimming spots within a short drive (see list below). A quick 5 minute drive will get you to one of the best disc golf courses in the north east. For the truly adventurous, Clarksville Cave is a short drive away. Visit their website for list of proper gear and rules. We do rent some of the equipment needed.

Our historic and peaceful property is yours to explore! According to a few sources we've consulted, the Mohican people (Eastern Algonquian family of tribes - not to be confused with the Mohawk, a distinctly different tribe) were the indigenous occupants of the land where our farm is now located. Historians note that the name Mohican is from the indigenous word meaning "water that flows in two directions." Most Mohicans were driven into western NY and Canada when the Revolutionary War broke out.
Local history indicates that the first white occupants to build here were the Hawley Family, in 1790. Parts of the farmhouse date to this era. Outbuildings were added through the decades and centuries, and the land was used as a dairy farm, among other ventures, by previous owners.
We purchased the property in 2021 in hopes of providing more space, nature and outdoor living for our two little ones. We have two fields dedicated to Christmas trees, as well as apple, pear and cherry trees, and we've had successful garlic harvests to share with neighbors, family, friends, and at local farmers' markets. Our 75 acres is a wonderful, diverse mix of habitat, harmoniously integrated with our small farm. This land was the homestead of the very first non native settler of the area, John Wiley, in 1787. Before that, it was the land of the Mahican native Americans. They named it "valley of the butternut trees", or Wyomanock.
The Wyomanock Creek is the backbone of this little valley. Beaver have dammed the creek at several points to create ponds and other wetland features that support a diversity of wildlife including otter, moose and a myriad of birds, from osprey to herons. Weekend Trip to Dickensen Farm: Cabins & Camping
The stay was great! Kimberly was a very helpful host and although we had plentiful rain our second day, the corner pocket cabin was more than enough to keep us entertained with our small games and if you’re “glamping” the service connection means you can still play a movie either by the fire or in the cabin. The dogs were great and so friendly. Unfortunately our stay was prime tick season so we did not want to sleep with the dogs in our bed but they were super respectful of our space and pretty well trained. The alpacas were a bit shy but we’re glad to eat from our hands and the roosters didn’t seem overly aggressive with their due respect. We got plenty of great sunset photos by the cabin and sunrise photos by the alpacas. Overall our stay was amazing and very nature oriented with Vermont, Albany and Troy all nearby the sites you can visit in a day are endless. Many mountainside views hidden nook waterfalls (within 60 min) and walkable trails. The farm fresh eggs were delicious and you can definitely notice the difference from the store bought ones which just seem okay now. We will definitely be coming back with hopes of staying longer and getting more time to peruse the farm made products.

Hosts Marlene and Craig were great very friendly and accommodating. Cabin was nice and quiet plenty of room and comfortable. It was nice to be able to take a quick hot shower in the new shower shed. My dog loved being able to wonder around off the leash and go for a hike. We will definitely keep this one in our return list.

The cabin was very cute! They provided jugs of potable water and it was equipped with a stove, bowls, cups, utensils, etc. as well as firewood for the wood stove as well as the fire pit outside. The cabin came with a long couch, a loveseat, and two twin beds, as well as extra blankets.
For electricity, you need to turn on the generator, which powered the lights and made it possible to use the outlets. There are also gas lamps inside the cabin that can be used independent of the generator.
We did run out of gas for the lamps and for the cooking stove and they were responsive to replace the gas for us.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and would consider returning in the future or recommending the space to others. Thanks so much!

A perfect Maple Weekend with my two grandsons. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a pack of friendly dogs that made us feel right at home. Our cabin was tucked away down a quiet path in the woods—peaceful, private, and just far enough from the world. There were beds for each of us and table and chairs for playing games and eating.
The highlights for the boys were definitely the 'farm chores.' They got to help the owner boil a fresh batch of maple syrup over the open fire and spent hours hanging out with the chickens and collecting eggs. Between spotting deer in the fields and the cozy cabin life (complete with a handy indoor loo for those middle-of-the-night trips!), it was a wonderful rustic experience. We’re already counting down the days until our summer return!"

Weekend Trip to Dickensen Farm: Cabins & Camping
I had such a great experience at Dickensen Farm.
I was immediately greeted by the property pawtrol lol, and kept company by two new furry friends nearly the whole weekend.
Cabin was a perfect, clean shelter. This one is the closest to the house — but the property is peaceful and quiet.
I believe I was the only guest as it was a rainy and cold weekend, and I felt lucky! Walking through the woods and listening to the rain was great; but the tin roof while reading was even better.
I am used to camping with my sleeping bag and buddy heater so I was comfortable at night with no problems.
Kimberly is a great host. I appreciate meeting kind people.

I had great stay in the snow- cabin has everything you need. One minor setback: my honda fit couldn't make it up the hill! In the winter make sure you have snow tires or 4WD
Marlene and her husband were very helpful, helping me park my car at the bottom of the hill and driving my stuff right to the cabin in their truck. Thanks for everything!

Weekend Trip to The Deer Crib at Flat Rock Farm
Excellent get-away experience. Exactly as described, put together by folks who are very practically-minded and resourceful. Total peace and privacy with very good comfort in primitive setting. Wood stove was key to cold winter nights, plenty of heating capacity to spare. Gas mantle lights are very nice touch as well.
Host is immediately responsive and excellent communicator.

13 ft travel trailer
I loved being there. Easy to find. Lovely to walk around the farm. Enjoyed the alpacas, chickens and turkeys. The staff was easy to communicate with via text. Electric, water and fire pit all easy to find and use.
