I live off grid in one of the toughest climates in the US. I have about 15 acres of land bordered by 10,000 acres of wild forest preserve. Locals refer to this area as The Hill because of its unique weather anomalies. I share my experiences with campers in good weather but exist here all year. I am a Qualified NYS Woodland Guide. My actual license is pending the processing of fees and registration. This should be complete by August 1st of this year. I have over a half century of knowledge gained through a lifetime of hiking, exploring and living in this environment. My main focus is the land, lakes, ponds and streams in the lower Adirondack Park. I leave the high peaks, ice climbing and white water rafting to others that choose that speciality. My goal in guiding is not that of a just a follow me and listen guide. I strive to help those interested in learning about and enjoying the outdoors safely so that you take away real life skills you can use once we are done. I did search and resuce work as a volunteer for many years under DEC Forest Rangers. To help contain costs l will allow up to groups of people to participate at one time. Also. If you would like Amish made products, l can arrange that as well. There is a very conservative Amish community in the surrounding area. I consider these people my good friends and l am very familiar with their customs, traditions and lifestyles. Many people are now thinking of doing what we have done. If you so choose, we can schedule time to discuss any of the offgrid issues that may be unanswered in your mind. The original intent was to offer a peaceful place for you to escape for a time. My family and I had a great time at Coyote Hollow. It was so pretty and so much attention to detail. It was such a comfortable experience. My friend’s family rented out site 2 and no one was at site three so we had the whole place to ourselves. The fact that you could really be comfortable there for the whole weekend easily without too much prep because of the breakfast and camp store was impressive. The camp store was also so affordable. It really feels like you’re cared for. The out house is a very fancy out house- there’s running water. There’s potable water to wash dishes and fill up water bottles also at the wash house/toilet/shower. The tents are very comfortable and nice. It’s just like in the photos. You can see the stars. The chickens are also fancy and friendly.

Amazing place! So incredibly secluded..one might say it’s even clothing optional ;-) Between the expanse of land to explore, the gorgeous pond to swim in every day, and the blackberries/blueberries to pick, it was truly a magical time! It had all of the necessary amenities for a sweet glamping experience- AND THE SHOWER!! The outdoor shower with the forest view was supreme! Loved it. Will definitely be back :)

Karl and his daughter were such gracious hosts! He welcomed me with a prepared fire which felt so sweet after a long ride. He is available for anything that you need, but not overbearing. Karl’s home is close to the serenity cabin, but I didn’t mind it. When driving there make sure to use the coordinates because the address Hipcamp offers is incorrect.

Weekend Trip to Escape...to Mariaville Goat Farm!

I can't say enough good things about my and my 7-year-old's experience at Mariaville Goat Farm. Ed and Rick have created a beautiful environment on their working farm, and the ambience of the place- which is chock-a-block with assemblage art, sculpture, and whimsical structures for guests to stay in- made for a magical experience, start to finish. I highly recommend ordering their dinners and breakfasts, which are packed in coolers for picnics and which were made from locally sourced ingredients and much more haute cuisine than I expected (house-baked pastries, cheese plates, individual skillet-cooked chili and mac and cheese, creamery ice cream delivered in an insulated thermos). We stayed in the treehouse in a bell tent, which was well insulated against the brief rainstorm that rolled in overnight. The treehouse has everything you need for a comfortable, enjoyable "glamping" experience, and I was impressed with all of the thoughtful added touches. The stars of this experience were the farm's eponymous goats, who were beautifully healthy, friendly and calming. My daughter had a blast cuddling, walking the grounds and doing yoga with them! My one note is that the mattress in the bell tent, which I think is an air mattress, was somewhat deflated. I may bring my own when I come back.

We had a wonderful stay at Coyote Hollow Site 2! Even though it rained most of the weekend, the glamping tent kept us warm and dry. The hosts were incredibly friendly and had thought of every detail to make our stay comfortable. The site was quiet, clean, and peaceful. The tent and site were perfect! Even better than advertised. The location is amazing-- so close to town but very private and quiet. The tent was spacious and the mattress was comfortable. A small cupboard outside contained a few necessary items we forgot-- namely bug spray and a lighter for the campfire. I intend to stay here again in the future. Beware that the road leading up to the site is a little rough.
