With cobblestone mill ruins, a 200 year old cemetery at the property entrance and a large dam at the top of some of New York's most beautiful waterfalls, this is the former site of one of the Georgia Pacific's many logging mills dating back to the early 1800's and a part of Adirondack history.
Surrounded by bedrock, huge boulders, massive pine trees and miles and miles of trails, the Fowlerville Falls offer days of exploration and/or relaxation. There is a large swimming hole at the top of the falls, just off of the South-facing bedrock bank, where you can swim or lay in the sun. The falls, themselves, are almost 500 ft. across (at the widest point) and approximately 150 ft. in length (from top to bottom), ascending at approximately a 40-45 degree angle, making them navigable by foot. In the drier months (and, of course, depending on rain fall), most of the falls are dry, with only 50 - 100 ft. of water flow, making them navigable by foot. There are many little pools and flowing water across the bedrock to explore, along with the rest of the river, the surrounding woods and adjacent miles and miles of atv/hiking trails.
If you are kayaker, there river above the falls is calm and fairly shallow, ranging from .5 - several feet in depth. And if you are white water enthusiast, Fowlerville Falls (and the Moose River) is a nationally rated and renowned spot, boasting a class III-IV under normal release conditions, and a dangerous, cold class V under spring runoff conditions.

Air so clean and sweet you’ll wish your lungs were bigger. If recreation is your thing the area has local fishing, hunting, 8 state parks and more. Local farmers market is 20 minutes away. A true retreat from Hussle and bustle. Stargazing at its finest. About an hour south of Watertown and about an hour north of Utica. Salmon River in Pulaski is about an hour away. . The property itself is entirely groomed with plenty of room to spread out. Neighbors are a good distance away for the most part — but healthy walk when you need them —friendly and helpful.

We had a wonderful time staying here. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The campsite is pet friendly and provided everything we needed including water, electric and sewage hookup. They also provided extremely clean bathrooms and showers and a fire pit. The location was a very short drive to the main attractions in Old Forge and close to a lot of beautiful hikes. We were very impressed by the campground and would highly recommend. Would love to stay again soon.

Such a great find! This campsite was really awesome and you get so much for the price. We stayed in an RV site and had plenty of tree buffer between us and the next site. The bathrooms were nearby and this direct access to miles of beautiful hiking trail right at the site. We also had a lot of fun at their beach and rec center. We are definitely interested in coming back.

Massawepie holds a special place in our scouting family. Kids attended and worked there, adults attended as leaders. The hip camp portion is on the old scout camp known as Camp Mountaineer. The Rv sites are basic with 30amp power and water. The waterfront is basic but functional. There are shower houses and a recreation building with games and hang out area.
They have only been renting “Family Camp/Camp Mountianeer” for a few years. Every year we return for a few nights to drop off or pickup a scout at a camp Pioneer down the lake. Every year the facilities and offerings are better. The only issue we have is the dump station is poorly designed and difficult to dump at because of its location at the top of a small rise in the parking lot. It is impossible to have the trailer level at the dump station. The sewer inlet is also recessed in a box that makes it so you have to continuously lift the sewer hose to get the black and gray tanks flow over the edge of the box.

This is a great campground on a beautiful lake in walking distance of rare, huge bog. There is lots of scout activity across the lake so don’t be surprised by yelling and cheering, especially in the evenings. There are also day campers who use the area. The hot showers are a nice touch.

Lots of room in this site and there was a ton of gravel that kept the site from turning into a swamp when it rains. There was a power failure from the 30 amp electric hook-up. The camp hosts were very responsive and contacted the park ranger and he quickly fixed the problem and the power was back on.
One of the nice features of the RV sites each site has a trail that leads into the white trail. The family camp office also had a full inside shower and flush toilet.
