I live off grid in one of the toughest climates in the US. I have about 15 acres of land bordered by 10,000 acres of wild forest preserve. Locals refer to this area as The Hill because of its unique weather anomalies. I share my experiences with campers in good weather but exist here all year. I am a Qualified NYS Woodland Guide. My actual license is pending the processing of fees and registration. This should be complete by August 1st of this year. I have over a half century of knowledge gained through a lifetime of hiking, exploring and living in this environment. My main focus is the land, lakes, ponds and streams in the lower Adirondack Park. I leave the high peaks, ice climbing and white water rafting to others that choose that speciality. My goal in guiding is not that of a just a follow me and listen guide. I strive to help those interested in learning about and enjoying the outdoors safely so that you take away real life skills you can use once we are done. I did search and resuce work as a volunteer for many years under DEC Forest Rangers. To help contain costs l will allow up to groups of people to participate at one time. Also. If you would like Amish made products, l can arrange that as well. There is a very conservative Amish community in the surrounding area. I consider these people my good friends and l am very familiar with their customs, traditions and lifestyles. Many people are now thinking of doing what we have done. Spring, Summer and Fall are the best times to come for a visit. NOW is the time to book your experience with us. Enjoy rustic camping on our 115 acres of upstate NY forest. We are just a short drive to Cooperstown, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the summer baseball camps as well as the other museums that it has to offer. Howe Caverns in Cobleskill is also about 30 minutes away as well. The property consists of a mixture of upland hardwoods (mainly Oak, Maple and Cherry) with scattered stands of Red Pine, White Spruce, Hemlock and two open fields/pastures. There are also the occasional conifers scattered about just to keep things interesting. The majority of the property is gently sloping from the South up towards the North. The is also a nice ridge on the NE corner of the property to aid in topographic diversity. One of the fields is a seven acre hay field and the other is a five acre food plot planted in clover, chicory and other grasses. This field has also been recently planted with Apples, Pear, American Plum, Red Osier Dogwood, Persimmon, Red Mulberry, Chinese Chestnut, and Hazelnuts. These are all young at this time but will start to provide diversity and wildlife interest in the coming years. Wildlife abounds here at the homestead. Whitetail Deer and Eastern Wild Turkey are very common to see. We also have a variety of small animals as well such as Red and Grey Squirrels, Raccoons, Porcupine, Opossum, Fisher etc. For the birders, we have Barred and Great Horned Owls and Red Tailed Hawks. It is also not uncommon to see Bald Eagles soaring over the fields looking for their next meal. All of the property is easily accessible via our extensive trail system. There is also another 187 acres that borders our land that also has trails that would allow hiking. We have detailed maps so that getting lost would be the least of your worries. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by. Within a 5 miles radius is a general store, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, Rooted Movement, the Sap Bush Country Store and Café, and Mustang Valley (a wild mustang sanctuary). Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, and others.

We had such a wonderful stay at Into the Wild! The cabin was cozy, peaceful, and exactly what we were looking for. Karl was an incredible host—so accommodating, helpful, and knowledgeable about the property and the area. He even took us on a walk around the trails, which made the experience so much more special. Weekend Trip to Coyote Hollow Park

We had a wonderful stay at Coyote Hollow Site 2! Even though it rained most of the weekend, the glamping tent kept us warm and dry. The hosts were incredibly friendly and had thought of every detail to make our stay comfortable. The site was quiet, clean, and peaceful. Breakfast offered a great variety, and we loved the free-roaming chickens and ducks. We’d happily stay here again and highly recommend it!

The tent and site were perfect! Even better than advertised. The location is amazing-- so close to town but very private and quiet. The tent was spacious and the mattress was comfortable. A small cupboard outside contained a few necessary items we forgot-- namely bug spray and a lighter for the campfire. I intend to stay here again in the future. Beware that the road leading up to the site is a little rough.

Camping here was amazing! The land that Brian has is beautiful and you need to take the time explore it! The cabin was very comfortable and 90% private (with only the occasional 4 wheeler in the distance). Brian was incredibly accommodating, welcoming, and attentive to anything we needed. My partner and I painted a couple of rocks during our stay and hope to add more in the future!

Karl greeted us when we arrived, along with his daughter, and took the time to show us around and share helpful information about the property and the surrounding area. The cabin was cozy and comfortable. The bed is a pull-out futon, so I would recommend bringing a mattress pad or sleeping bag if you prefer a little extra cushioning for sleeping. Karl has also recently installed a solar battery pack, which provides lighting and allows for basic device charging, making the cabin even more convenient. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would absolutely stay here again the next time we're in the area for hiking or visiting Utica. Highly recommend!

Green. Scenic, Quiet. Private spot to unplug and unwind. Denise is welcoming and super responsive. The cabin itself is very well equipped for daily needs and can easily house two people. Looking forward to returning soon!

My daughter and I had a fantastic time! The tent was clean and we had everything we needed for our two day adventure! Maryann was a wonderful host during a thunderstorm. She drove up to let us know that we were welcome to wait out the storm in the blacksmith barn and she even brought us towels. They told us to help ourselves to any games we wanted to play.. The view was phenomenal.. The night was full of beautiful stars.. We cannot wait to come back again..

3 nights at Waterfall Sanctuary & Quiet Retreat

This place was so perfect for what we were looking for, just rustic enough to have the stripped back stay we were looking for, with just enough comforts to make it truly feel like a vacation! The waterfall is even more beautiful than the photos show, and the short hike down to it is well worth it. We spent three days on the bank of the waterfall and swimming area just soaking it all in!! For future guests, there’s a short trail to get to your cabin that’s down some stone stairs, keep that in mind when packing. Lighter is better, which works well since there’s so many amenities for you already there! But just keep in mind you can’t drive up to your cabin.

Weekend Trip to Coyote Hollow Park

Our family had a wonderful time here! Everything was perfect and so many thoughtful touches. Christine met us and helped us with our bags. She was very helpful and answered all our questions. So many nice touches, including the soaking tubs. The bathroom was super clean and the bath house had a working toilet, which is always appreciated when camping. Breakfast was great. And we loved how sustainable everything was, using solar power. Bed were very comfortable! We will return!

We absolutely loved our stay here :) Marie was very kind and welcoming. The area was very cute and it was secluded from any other campers, and the bathroom/shower space was nearby. We were given plenty of wood / fire starting equipment, equipment for the grill, and the tent also had a fire extinguisher and bear horn which was really nice. The creek was also very cute and we had fun exploring it. Overall loved our trip and would definitely come back here :))
