Situated a little over 4 miles off of Missouri Hwy 185 in the forest are 4 back-in Rv sites all with 50/30/20 Amp electric configured in a circle around a community camp fire. Nearby to State Parks and a bit of a drive to Mark Twain National Forest. This is a self service site. Bring your own water and an empty lavatory tank. Twin Eagle Lake Campground is located 14 miles away on Hwy 185 and provides a water faucet and dump station for longer stays at an additional expense. The property has a 4 foot chicken wire fence around it with barb wire on the top and a double gate at the entrance. All 4 sites can be rented together for group camping or special events if available. The gravel road can be rough and should keep your significant other away. Drive slowly in a 4x4 or Rear wheel drive vehicle and you should have no problems. The road leading to this property is not meant for front wheel drive vehicles. The gate has a combo lock on it. You will get the combo after booking your site. This piece of land just finished construction so it may be Summer of 2025 before I can get the grass to grow. The gate can be left open while a campsite is occupied if all campers agree, but please close the gate and lock it if all sites are empty when you check out. This is the wilderness, there are bugs, mosquitos, ticks, flys, bees, and things that bite and sting. Please prepare accordingly. By staying on my property, you are waiving any liability for me or any owner of the land.

Of particular interest is the site of an old moonshine distillery hidden in the woods, a 20 min hike east of your campsite. Legends has it that the moonshine was illicitly produced during Prohibition and sold in the loft of our biggest barn where people would drink and dance the night away. Located at the confluence of the Meramec River and Labarque Creek, my place (Matt's Place) is a ridge above a bottomland bowl of sorts. The old iron truss bridge here is likely built in 1910 and it has a survey marker from 1932. The creek has a nice little swimming hole, and a beach that is sometimes sand, sometimes, gravel, and sometimes a mix of both with some silt or even mud after a storm. It's peaceful down there to explore in the creek, wade while looking outward to an opening into the Meramec River. It's also fun to stand just at the mouth of the creek in the Meramec River. It's an awesome view upstream or downstream of tree lined banks, rock bluffs, and every now and then, passing boats, canoes, paddle boards, or kayaks. The old iron truss bridge hovers above the meeting of two waters. The water is cool and clean. Some fifty species of fish have been recorded in this creek, the most in all of Jefferson County and St Louis County. The bottomland has two levels, the lower bottoms down by the creek and the upper bottoms about a hundred feet from the creek. The upper bottoms has a clearing like a meadow with mowed grass. My favorite things to do here include gazing up at a cottonwood tree that must be sixty feet tall. It's leaves in a breeze are like a thousand hands waving hello. The bottomland meadow offers just enough sky to see bats dance in the dusk air between the trees, then fireflies as it gets darker yet. Up top is where I live. Just five miles off HWY 44 and HWY 109, at Eureka, MO, (30 minutes west of downtown St Louis, 18 minutes from Six Flags) this place sits on a ridge with great views above the Meramec River.

Everything went well!! It was our second visit and our first time of the season this year. We had problems getting our electric working right and they helped us figure that out. Then, they noticed our water was leaking a lot where we had it hooked up so they helped us fix that which made our water inside the camper flow better than it ever has. We also went horseback riding. It was a super fun time. Our horses were great and our guide, Jonathan, the owner, was awesome! Had a great time talking with him. Everyone tha we talked to was super nice! We will definitely be back!

Nice, quiet (not crowded) farm atmosphere and a great place to rockhound with other places to go rock collecting nearby. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to go through the 50+ pounds of really nice druzy quartz I’m bringing home.

Weekend Trip to Spring Lake Ranch

Beautiful lake, accessible bathhouse, and wooded RV sites. It was a great get-a-way and fun to be on a farm with gorgeous horses. The nearest town is about a 17 minutes drive away, so bring plenty of food or block out time to drive into town.

21 nights at Meramec Campground

We really liked this campground. Very clean and well maintained. Camp host was very nice and helped us with anything that we might need. Had nice showers and bathroom facilities. Also had laundry facilities. They also have cabins onsite. Just down the road from the Meramec Caverns and a couple of wildlife sites. About an hours drive to St Louis and to Hermann Mo.

Weekend Trip to Spring Lake Ranch

Second time at spring ranch with our travel trailer, so it’s kind of obvious that we like the location and the amenities. Staff at the main building are excellent and very helpful, bath house is clean and nice. Kayak rental is perfect and a nice way to spend a fall day, and a good 2 mile loop trail for hiking is enjoyable.

Weekend Trip to Hawks Bluff Farm Campground

Keep in mind this is a farm, so you will find equipment and farm stuff about. Beautiful property with access to lots of activities featuring rock hunting. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We will be back when time allows. They offer a variety of festivals and learning opportunities from time to time. Elizabeth has worked to offer all types of camping experiences. The communal outdoor kitchen is an awesome way to meet your fellow campers and enjoy a morning coffee.
