Situated on 36 acres, this working farm is 2 miles West of Taylors Falls. Dan bought this property with the intention of growing stone fruits (plums, peaches, apricots and cherries) using sustainable and organic practices because health and wellness matter to them! They are still in the process of improving their property. Many of the building on the property were in poor condition, including the old barn foundation which is now one of Dan and Danielle favorite places to keep cool in the summer. After they had excavated all the debris (which took years) they were able to transform it with gardens and fire pit for all to enjoy. They love sharing what they have been blessed with! Enjoy our back lot for a private campsite which borders a prairie preserve. Watch the deer come in the morning and evening and listen to our friendly, happy hens cluck away, not to mention all the beautiful song birds. We are happy to share our golf clubs and balls to hit a few into the field. Our kids love it! Tree coverage along with an open field. We cut the field to offer a walking trail to the prairie preserve. There is a tree surronded, very private tent site for tenters, but if you have a camper you can find a spot that works best for you! (The tent site is very private and a camper would not fit.) We are a short 10 min drive to Stillwater but there is so much to do in Somerset! Take a walk around the prairie preserve and kayak down the apple river, but don’t forget the local brewery and boutique shop. There is some great fishing on local lakes in the area as well. How we ended up in Knife Lake Township on 81 acres of forested land. We began looking for land in late fall of 1996. After several months of searching, we happened upon a tiny newspaper ad for 81 acres of land described as "Beautiful, secluded, mature hardwoods, tall pines w/creek & beaver pond, many gd bldg sites & great hunting". We toured the property, covered in almost two feet of snow, on a snowmobile in January 1997 and fell in love with it. We have been stewards of this piece of land for 25 years and are still enamored of its beauty and diversity. We are lulled to sleep by the sounds of owls and bullfrogs and the distant yipping of coyotes. Spring through fall we are often awakened by the rattling, honking of sandhill cranes and a wide variety of bird songs. Besides deer and lots of small critters, we've seen bear, bobcat, rafters of turkeys, quail, grouse, pheasant, owls, hawks and eagles. The sky, on a clear night, is breathtaking. We have always visualized sharing the land with others, so come and immerse yourself in this bountiful space.

You can stay in the small camping cabin in comfort with your own bedding, or sleeping bag for the twin bed in the loft, or the futon on the main level. Expect to hear Pheasant's cackle in the AM, and see Sandhill Cranes and Geese fly over the camp site, or sitting in area fields. Enjoy time around a campfire with folding chairs and a picknick table, with plenty of free dry firewood in a storage rack.

The tipi’s and surrounding grounds were clean and manicured. Bugs were no existent inside and outside. Deer were always walking around the grounds. Such a beautiful spot that is being cared for really well. We stayed with our 5 kids in the barn and it was a good fit! The barn is beautiful! Jason did a great job building it! The story of the barn is inspiring too, read the binder. We got fresh eggs and a farm tour, I recommend both. The kids loved holding baby lambs and meeting all the other farm animals. Would definitely visit again.

Weekend Trip to Into The Woods

I’m so glad my very first solo camping trip with my dog was at The Dome! When I booked the listing, there was an option to pay for a couple hours before and after the booking time and I definitely took advantage of that and I’m so glad I did. I had been needing this break from the stress of life situations and have been looking forward to it so much. Inside The Dome is a perfect set up. It is nice and cozy with just the basics as you see in the listing pictures and the toilet was fine to use. There are instructions there for how to pack it out. Linda was even kind enough to have a box of dry firewood available, and the fire pit is pretty big. I did make a small fire too! There are some trails that are easily walkable. Next, as another camper at the site noted in their review: birds, birds birds. I used my Merlin app and just sat and enjoyed all the sounds. I even got to see a few of the birds and I did bring my binoculars. I also saw two different hummingbirds. Come prepared for a few ticks. I used “Wondercide” for Baxter. It’s part of camping! I use At&T and had fine cell coverage. I’ll attach some pix and hope others go and enjoy it! We might go back this fall!

Had a great stay at Whippletree Farm! My husband and I booked this site to take his younger siblings on their first ever “camping” trip. Peter’s cabin was the perfect intro to camping experience! My sister in law loved the goats and chickens and spent plenty of time with the cats that were roaming around. Having perks like the compost toilet, beds w/sheets, and fans was especially nice because it meant I didn’t have to pack as much stuff. We wanted to do a day of Mall of America and a day of hiking at Willow River State Park, so this was the perfect location. 10/10 would recommend!

Weekend Trip to The Camps at the Vineyards

The A frame was so fun to be in! I loved the concept of opening up the side and having the dogs relax and be able to go in and out when they wanted! The river right next to the site was peaceful, so many birds for bird watching and not too many mosquitoes when we went (although ticks loved our dogs). The owners let us try some of their wine and got to meet the other campers which was super fun and had a lot of laughs! Go meet Carl and his family, they are so wonderful. It’s right next to Rum River State Forest and not too far from Lake Mille Lacs. Great stay! Would come back :)

Weekend Trip to Bundo's Cabin

Jon's property is the definition of a secluded retreat - absolutely stunning. It is very easy to get to, perfect lodging accommodations and plenty of space for our 2 dogs to roam. Do be mindful of the season you are staying - wish we would have brought tick repellent dog spray. Can't wait to return outside of tick season.

Weekend Trip to Alpha and Omega Pizza Farm

Kim and everyone at Alpha and Omega were such wonderful hosts! We camped during a pizza farm night which made the experience even more fun. We loved waking up and greeting all the animals (pigs, goats, donkeys, cows and alpacas). Kim’s delivery of fresh baked caramel rolls, coffee and orange juice was icing on the cake. Definitely recommend to families looking for a fun getaway close to the twin cities.

Weekend Trip to Bundo's Cabin

Jon’s property was absolutely beautiful. Fully equipped with potable water sink, AC, fridge with small freezer, electric stove, and exceptionally clean outhouse. The sleeping loft was cozy but warm, would recommend bringing a small fan in the summer months. We unfortunately had to cut our trip short due to the ticks, but that was no fault of the host and he was extremely accommodating. If you come to the cabin during tick season please be prepared. Overall this is a great Hipcamp and would definitely come back in the fall!

Weekend Trip to Stone Creek Farm

The site was tidy with its own compostable outhouse. There was even four chairs set around the fire pit. The site was private and the sounds of nature was very refreshing. Dan has a very nice place with well cared for land. There are friendly chickens and a happy-go-lucky dog, who escorted me to my site the second night.. I would definitely recommend the site. Dan was very kind and accommodating as well. He also provides wagons to tote your things.

Weekend Trip to Whippletree Farm & Nature Trail

Really great site, we had beautiful weather and didn't really spend much time in the cabin. There was plenty of firewood available to us which was really great. When we were going to bed we couldn't help but think we missed out cause the cabin was really great. Great time, great site and great cabin.
