Want to explore the area? Just a few miles away is the 49-mile multi-use Heartland Trail, where you can enjoy a quiet walk, run, or bike ride through a paved, wooded, level trail. Within ten miles are plentiful restaurants and stores in Park Rapids, Dorset, and Nevis. There are often music festivals throughout the summer, and several of the restaurants and bars host live music, some of which are played by Debbie, one of your two hosts! You can even take a 30-mile drive to Itasca State Park, home to the headwaters of the Mississippi River, where you can walk right across the headwaters!

Goldie is closed for the season - she will reopen again in the spring!
Goldie is an original early 1900's wooden caboose that ran on the DMIR railroad.
She was re-designed in 1912 to be safer on the railroad (and her length extended so she wouldn't fall over). She ran the tracks of the Iron Range until retirement in 1968. It's been fully renovated with a few modern conveniences.
We've re-used as much of the original wood as possible, and repurposed many things into other things so that we could keep the history alive. My husband is the carpenter that brought her to life and I'm the one that gave her some paint and design.
Now, she's ready for people again, and to keep telling her story to others. Please...be our guest...and let Goldie be your host.

We do have pets and they do run around the yard freely. There are two dogs that love to romp and say hi (a female Golden Retriever and a female Griffon mix) and a female cat that does the same. They are super friendly, but they will come to visit you at the lake.
Our lake is an "environmental lake" so while we keep a small beach area that you are welcome to use, it is not free of lily pads or weeds. It's simple, but fully swimm-able (the Golden Retriever keeps the first 8 feet of water weed free with her swimming!). You are welcome to use the dock and chairs we keep there for breezy evenings or to take a dip to cool off.
We are only 2ish miles from town with gas, food, ice cream and a donut shop. There is a paved rail trail just down our street that runs both directions for many miles. Bikes are welcome! (please leave ATVs at home).

The Hamlet Lake homestead is our 10-acre family home with two unique and private hip-camp sites. We have both lakeshore (in front) and a hobby farm with cows, chickens and goats in our back lawn and woods. The Hamlet Lake Bunkhouse is located to the west of our home in its own secluded parcel next to the lake. The Camp on Hamlet Hill (closed for 2026) is to the north of our home, on a remote flat hill at the top of our property, on a hill over Cedar brook. with 300-acre, (private) Hamlet Lake in front, and the wide portion of the 20-mile Cedar brook in the back. We are a large "homesteading" family, with chickens, ducks, and a garden. The campsite is a private 1/2 acre clearing, surrounded by woods with a firepit, grill, cooking utensils, and an outhouse. (Tents are available for a small additional cost). There is an outdoor water pump below the hill, near which guests can view our fenced-in animals. Guests can also access the waterfront and beach in front, with the use of the swim raft, lily pad, fishing dock, canoe, kayak, and paddle boards included. At nearly 100 feet deep, Hamlet lake also boasts excellent fishing. Our home is located 6 miles from Crosby, with the world-class Cuyuna Lakes 50-mile mountain bike trail system. Crosby is a growing tourist town with many new and unique restaurants, outdoor adventures, and shopping opportunities. The paved bike trail begins 3.5 north of us. Milacs lake is 10 miles to the south.

The cabin is nestled in the woods on a ridge among a grove of older pines, away from the lakeshore. Take a short hike down the ridge to reach the shore and enjoy a private peninsula in Woman Lake's Hunters Bay. The west side of the bay is teeming with wildlife. Enjoy the resident bald eagle pair nesting in the neighbor's pine, as well as a nearby beaver lodge and loon's nest. Much of the property to the west is bordered by state land, perfect for privacy, nature hikes, and hunting.
The cabin features neutral colors, pine ceilings, minimal décor, excellent use of space, and abundant windows, so you can enjoy plenty of natural light and views of the surrounding woods. The great room includes comfortable leather furniture, a dining table, a 75-inch Smart TV with a PS4, and a cozy wood stove. The thoughtfully designed galley kitchen has all the essentials and a large pantry.
There's also a breakfast nook and work area with an additional dining table and chairs. The main-level bedroom has a queen bed and plenty of closet space. The loft features two queen beds and one single bed. The bathroom includes a shower and a heater/exhaust fan. A washer and dryer are also provided.
Other things to note:
The lakeshore is beautiful, but it requires a short walk along the gravel road followed by a short hike down to the water, where you'll find metal chairs and a dock. The dock is very basic but functional, and a boat can be tied to it. Aquatic plants become more abundant in the water later in the summer. The dock is available from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
We are continuing to improve the lakeshore by finishing steps down the slope and hope to add a longer dock in the future. Please reach out with any questions.

Tree house, tiny home, shipping container, luxury hotel - the Forest Container is a bit of each of these things. Set in a lush forest valley, this is an incredible and unique place to stay. The property is within the Cuyuna mountain bike area, between the Yawkey and the Cruser's Kettle trailheads. There is a fire ring as well as a great deck upon which you can camp or otherwise relax and enjoy the view of the forested valley. The container is heated and cooled, and the container has a luxurious warm tiled shower, sink, toilet (cassette style), power and of course, as pictured, a beautiful small bedroom and living room. Coffee machine and mini fridge included on the deck.
Note to guests, if the cassette toilet develops a smell, pour 16 oz of water into the urine catch once at a time a few times and it will purge the system and eliminate it. A change of the bag, naturally, is the other method of odor reduction. It works great as long as one is mindful of it. 👍🏼

I felt like I was at a private nature retreat. Watching and listening to the lake activity was magical. Loons, trumpet swans, beavers…..and the birds! Have your Merlin App ready to go and don’t forget your binoculars. The property is amazing, the host is amazing. Truly a special getaway, and a quick drive to Nevis, Itasca State Park and Park Rapids for local adventures. I can’t wait to go back.

This is such a gem. It was our second time visiting; first in the winter and now late spring. Can confirm it is great regardless of season! Such a beautiful view of the lake, comfy beds, great kitchen, really nice fire pit area. Definitely recommend just don't book it when we want to come! :)

We loved our stay at Harvest Loon Camp. I took advantage of the beautiful cabin and natural surroundings to propose to my fiancé, and Bob worked with me to make sure it went off without a hitch. We love the property updates since we were last there: beach area, dock, and bathroom with shower.

The dome was super cool and awesome. We loved it. We would Def recommend trying this place. Very quiet and the river views where great. The host was very accommodating and very nice.

We really enjoyed our stay here and would return. We loved using the wood burning stove in the cabin, letting our dog roam free on the land, and being on the water. The cabin is rustic yet comfortable. It had everything we needed. We loved being close to the headwaters and getting to know Paul and his pup Piper.

Paul's spot is absolutely beautiful. A thoughtful and spacious cabin right on the lake . Super comfortable bed , a wood stove, everything you need including a view. The lake is a wildlife viewing haven and you can see a ton of creatures if you take the time to walk around. The dock is a nice addition, and I went out and had ana maxing night of stargazing there. Played guitar by the fireplace, what more could you ask for . Oh wait, yeah Paul is rad. He has a ton of awesome stories and is living g his dream of being off grid. His pal Piper is an awesome pup as well. There is nothing g negative i can say. This place is a gem, as is the host.

Love the private cozy cabin! The wind through the pines is such a soothing sound! We enjoyed the hoots of the resident barred owl and distant honking of swans in the nearby channel. We even saw a little otter pop up onto the ice! Lots of hiking and restaurant options nearby.
The addition of a bathroom is a nice treat! Truly would love to stay here again!

We loved our stay at this cabin, and will definitely be back. The cabin strikes a perfect balance between a rustic and modern getaway.
We had a minor mixup getting the keys when we first arrived, but host Robert helped me get it fixed right away. When we got into the cabin, the wood stove was preloaded and already going, which was an awesome respite from the -10f temps outside.

This is my fourth time staying at Harvest Loon and it never disappoints. Even in the dead of winter, this place is cozy and charming. We had so much fun hanging out by the wood stove, listening to music, and getting some respite from city life. We got stuck in snow on our way out and Bob was super helpful sending out a plow guy.

Really nice little gem of a cabin on a lake. Location made it feel secluded. Paul the owner was very kind and lives in the house near the cabin. Lots of fun for the dogs off leash on the trails and frozen lake. Saw northern lights and had cozy times by the wood stove. Definitely coming back.

We had a wonderful winter stay at Paul's cabin. We enjoyed the frozen lakes by snowshoe with our dog and reading by the fireplace in the evening. Paul and his dog Piper were both great. Paul gave us good directions on places to snowshoe over coffee, Piper got along great with our dog and she even came along for a hike. We hope to make it back in another season. It's a beautiful spot.
