This old homestead belonged to my belated brother Steve, and after he passed unexpectedly, we decided to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for those interested in sharing a peaceful and modest property. The old barn is a work in progress to eventually become the base to accommodating more travelers and outdoor enthusiasts as finances permit. My son Logan, after having worked in the service industry bartending for 14 years and hosting 100+ global travelers via CouchSurfing out in San Diego, is well-versed in creating an inviting space, enjoying the merits of hard work through the hospitality industry. We look forward to meeting you and sharing/swapping stories around the campfire! Learn more about this land: Our property and profile are in constant change as we are in a stage of development, but we look to share our land with those seeking to enjoy a warm, welcome environment for those fellow wanderers, outdoor enthusiasts, vagabonds, and globetrotters. Logan is a well-traveled backpacker and together we share 5 1/2 acres here in a bustling little touristy town. We enjoy the company of those who endorse small footprint, sustainable practices and like to establish meaningful connections.  All we ask is that you respect the property, our neighbors, and make an effort to add one more new friend before you depart.

We just rebooted since 2022! Call or txt us at arrival time as we are a real working farm. Dry camping. We are a sixth-generation family farm, deeply rooted in the land and home to a wide variety of wildlife. Certified in both water quality and organic practices, we are committed to sustainability through cover cropping and regenerative farming methods. Our farm grows rare tribal seeds, Row 7 seed varieties, and specialty grains sought after by some of the nation’s top award-winning chefs. We supply grains for artisan bread, bagel shops, and even the Japanese market. In addition, we offer consumer-ready pancake mixes, flours, and rolled oats. Our work has been featured on the Food Network and in national publications. Noreen, our lead farmer, was honored as the first woman to receive the University of Minnesota’s prestigious Siehl Lifetime Achievement Award. Come learn more about our land: This is a working organic farm with chickens, vegetables, and grains. You'll find wide open spaces, vibrant sunsets, a clear view of the stars at night, and a peaceful river nearby. Lots of area to walk, and fish or see the night sky. We also very close to Fargo, Nd and Moorhead, Mn about 12 miles. Lots to do there as well and we can share our favorite places.

AN UNEXPECTED GREEN ISLAND

6. AN UNEXPECTED GREEN ISLAND

42mi from Detroit Lakes · 1 site
Green Island is an unexpected pine forest located actually inside a small town in northcentral Minnesota. The camping area is incredibly private and surrounds a small pond. It is primitive with minimal amenities beyond an outhouse and hand pump for water. Accessibility is only for tenting or truly tiny camper vehicles. The campground is a huge semi-shaded space for up to 20 tents, still, we prefer 1 or 2 at a time. However, larger group retreats are possible. We are serious environmentalists and we offer this opportunity just for true nature lovers as singles or couples, who totally take care of themselves, leave absolutely no trace, and are solid environmental stewards. In other words, its no place for a party. Separate from the campground there are: apple orchards, outdoor sculptures, wildlife, a meditation kuti, and perfect spaces for forest therapy. Yet almost unbelieveably, you can walk to a Pizza Hut or Walmart in 5 minutes. This is an excellent staging point for outdoors people en route to Itasca State Park, The Lost Fourty, and the state and national forests of the north.
