The property was originally owned by a family name Nichols (thus the name of the lake). It was handed down to the sons who each owned half the property. The driveway down the middle of property that leads to the lake was originally a fence line that divided the two pieces of property. The brothers did not get along and their are several stories of their warring on how to maintain the property.My parents bought this piece of property in 1964 and created a camp called "Lakeside Farm Camp", a small all boys camp. The camp has gone through several changes since then but has always been owned by the Edwards family. In 1984 the name was changed to "Cedar Lodge" a coed camp that specializes in English horseback riding and offering high level general camp activities. Enjoy the peace and quiet of our totally private fresh water lake. 2Chicks And A Farm is a small working farm on 20 acres, owned and run by Julie & Theresa Graham. We are 13 minutes from South Haven and Lake Michigan, 30 minutes from the city of Kalamazoo and just under an hour from Grand Rapids. Those of you who have visited in the past will notice that we significantly downsized this year. Due to Township and State regulations, we are now limited to offering only four campsites unless we get licensed, which at this time is cost prohibitive. So, we have selected the four most highly rated sites and upgraded them, to truly make your experience here special. About half of the 20 acres is wooded, with walking trails around the property, to include our fish stocked pond and a little tributary of the Black River. All sites have a fire ring, or metal fire pit, and picnic table. We have an outdoor propane shower that provides both hot and cold water. A free refreshment bar is available 24/7. Feeling a little peckish before breakfast, or after dinner? Help yourself to a snack and a hot or cold drink. You are welcome to collect eggs for breakfast and fresh produce from our gardens (for a fee). We are a working farm and registered as two Non-Profits. One an animal rescue, primarily working with cats. At any given day we have 20-30 cats roaming around the farm. All are under the care of our vet, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and treated for fleas and ticks. All important because they will want to interact with you. Some will want to sleep with you. Our 100 plus flock of poultry, comprised of chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys, free range during the day, so leave the Prada's at home. If you are staying at Sam's Place, your closest neighbors will Penelope and Petunia, our two female sister pigs. The prevailing winds are down from your site, but you may hear them squabble. Our herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats will love your attention and treats we can provide. Arriving in March is Jack, a miniature donkey...we are very excited! Please try to check-in by 8pm. Exceptions can be made. There are locally mandated quiet hours (10-7 Sun through Thur, and 11-7 Fri and Sat). Hanging out by a fire and chatting is fine.

It will sleep 4 and has some great amenities. The others are around our grassy barnyard area where you're able to enjoy all of our different animals!. All sites are 2-5 mins from the main house. You will be staying on our horse farm. We have many chickens, bunnies, a potbelly pig, feeder pigs (depending on the time of year), and our 4 house dogs. We offer overnight equine amenities as well. There are 2 showering options and restroom available. You can enjoy a small fire (weather dependent) or listen to the crickets and frogs under the starry night. Actually, you can do it all. We offer trail rides on the horses as well, (extra charges). You can even book a trip to the state park to ride the horse trails, which is only 15 minutes away. There is a great fishing lake less than 1 mile from the farm, so bring your poles and kayaks. Or rent ours! There is a Dollar General, 2 gas stations, and a liquor store in our tiny little town if you forget anything. Walmart is 12 minutes North of us.

In the 1950's, the property was a drive-in motel called the 'Harbert Motel'. We have an arial photo from this time period which showed a number of small bungalows for guests, each with its own carport. I love all the stories I hear from locals who have been around long enough to remember how things 'used to be'. Half way between Chicago and Detroit is a city named Kalamazoo. Our place is near the intersection of US 131 and I-94, so whichever direction you are traveling is accessible. Whether you are heading to the beauty of "up north" or running between the big cities east and west, this is a great spot to rest and enjoy some down time. Lake Michigan is a 40 minute drive west from here and if you are a bicyclist, you can ride the Kal-Haven Trail from the trail head about 2 miles from here, all the way to the Big Lake and back (35.5 miles one way). We have trails in the woods and open fields to look over, depending on your preference. As of this year, there is no electricity and water hookup, so tents or trailers with electric and water are your option. We have a bell tent available for a single or a couple to stay. On that same site is room for a trailer or tents, if you want to invite your friends, and we've built a cooking shelter and a bath house that has a compost toilet and a shower with on demand hot water from solar energy. We have a horse farm on the property and offer horse experiences (All our activities are done on the ground near or with the horses, so, no riding is offered) at an additional fee. It is expected that you will remain outside the fence from the horses while you are staying, unless you sign a release and are accompanied by the owner to interact with them. We do not allow dogs. There are two campsites cleared in the woods, for tent camping, and more will be cleared in 2025, as time allows. There will be a bathhouse with a compost toilet and on-demand hot water nearby those campsites. If you want to stay before our build, we will offer a lower rate, but expect you to take away your own waste when you leave or clarify with us where whether there is an appropriate place on the property to dispose of it. At some point during the fall of 2025, we are placing a restored vintage 1957 Ideal camper in a separate area of the property. It will have solar power and an indoor compost toilet, with a stove and sink. It will host a single or a couple who can sleep on a full sized mattress. Another sleeping area may be offered from converting the table, but we are not sure how comfortable it will be until we've completed the renovation.

The Saugatuck Interurban comes to our doorstep and takes you into Saugatuck and Douglas, load your bike upon the rack and for a buck you're car free. Lake Michigan is a few miles away. Your host is onsite. Headlamps encouraged. Proper footwear, if exploring..there is some poison ivy. Bugs birds and no AC... It's camping, in nature. We host pop up's thru October. Care to inquire about art offerings? Care to host an event? It's possible...

Beautiful land. My dog loved not having to be leashed jus like when we r at home. I loved walking with my family around the trail..seeing g the cows nx door or the sheep in or fenced in area. Bathrooms were earned n hut too with nice extra touches like blankets, plates, candle, bug killer, ect..already told my other kids n family we could rent the whole place during family gathering or reunion. Very helpful n informative host. Takes really good care of land ect.

It was the perfect little spot. Everything was super accessible that we needed. Communication was good and felt very comfortable here. There are cool little things throughout the property. Swimming and fishing pond, walking trail, tire swing, sheep.

1 night at Blooming Bus Farms

This was my first experience with hipcamp and I'm sold. It was very comfortable. They supplied pretty much everything we needed. We did NOT have to rough it out, which for me was exactly the point. I personally am not a camping type and prefer hotels, but I definitely want to visit Blooming Bus Farms again with friends, with my kids, with a bigger group. This time we went for our wedding anniversary, we being both my wife and I. As I enjoyed the beautiful glampsite I kept thinking this place probably levels up in autumn. There was a fire pit, which they provided the initial wood for. I ordered one extra helping of firewood and it was enough to keep our fire going through one heck of a storm. They have a tent set up with a table off to the side of the fire where we set up the stuff we had brought with us. The actual "tent" was spacious and comfortable with a bed, chairs, couch and table table. The lighting was great and set the mood perfectly. Really I didn't think we utilized everything they provided because they provided so much. That's why I gotta go back. The host was extremely nice and communicated excellently. I know we didn't experience it fully because it stormed really bad and so couldn't really take a stroll or explore the grounds fully, but what we got was more than worth it. If this is how all of the other sites are on the app this is what you want the introduction to be. I highly recommend this specific campground. 5 stars!

The pod rooms were so cool! Never would have thought to do something like that! The beds were comfortable and they provided a blanket, fan and outlet plugs for you in the pod. Outside they had a beautiful fire pit along with tables, chairs and cornhole. Everyone was really nice and fun to be around. Definitely would stay again! Thanks Nadia and crew! ❤️

3 nights at Art Farm Fennville

My partner and I LOVED this place, we will definitely be returning. The yurt was really cozy and a nice walk away from the barn. It’s connected to the area where they plant flowers and veggies -and surrounding it is water. The yurt is behind some trees on a little island so there’s a lot of privacy and Christine and her 2 neighbors were all doing their own thing. We’d chat with them when we saw them and everyone and their dogs were really kind and welcoming. We loved sitting by the fire area right by our yurt at night - the stars were super vivid!! We loved exploring the nearby small neighborhoods and bought fruit from the local farmer’s market. We checked out a HUGE vintage store nearby and my partner found a perfect filing cabinet! (They let us reserve it and scooped it up on the way out). In the barn you will find many of Christine’s art pieces (either in the works or completed), there’s a sign encouraging you to create as well with upcycled tools. Keep in mind the barn is open to the outside word so you eventually settle in with the little critters you see from time to time. The area also had a colony of bees when we were there and got to meet the beekeeper! She said those were her “nice bees”, and they were! When you’re close by they inspect you very quickly and communicate back to the others if you’re a threat or not. It was AMAZING watching the bees do their thing. As Chicagoans, this was the perfect ACTUAL commune space we needed.

Weekend Trip to Fallen Tree Campground

The Tiny House was the perfect glamping experience. It had everything we needed while still feeling like we were truly camping and enjoying nature. The Tiny House was clean, comfortable, and cozy, and the area around it felt private and secluded. The clubhouse bathroom was a huge bonus and made the stay even more convenient. Since there's no electricity in the Tiny House, we brought a couple of battery-powered fans, which helped a lot with staying cool during the heat of the day and made sleeping much more comfortable at night. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely recommend the Tiny House to anyone looking for a comfortable way to enjoy the outdoors without completely roughing it.

My husband and I snuck away midweek to just get away before an upcoming surgery. We got so much more than expected. Melissa was the most gracious host. They thought of everything you needed before you knew you needed it. The glamping cabin was so adorable and it was so quiet when we were there. The birds were lovely and the alpacas sweet. Romantic lights are everywhere. I recommend this campground with all my heart.

This place was great! You had your own little woodsy area. A table & chairs, a cooler with ice and water, our own bathroom (shower & composting toilet in a tent). The bell tent for sleeping was spacious, the bed was comfortable. First batch of free firewood kept our fire going until we went to bed. Definitely would recommend.

The Moonlight Halo Hut was very cozy and provided a great view of the night sky. I was impressed at how many amenities were provided. There was firewood at each campsite and even towels and soap at the wash stations in case you forgot to bring any. Titus is a very gracious host and his property is a treasure.

Very kind and helpful hosts, with a nice private camping area. We stayed in the mini camper, and it was a great experience! We loved that they offered kayaking, cornhole, and a communal dock and firepit area right on the water. Even had complimentary firewood (note: not as dry as store bought, so a bit harder to catch) and smores ingredients.
